Just as I suspected. My dad was a closet Arab ! He was from Cyprus , Famagusta , and he used to make a dish which he called Fasoolya. But it was a black eyed bean cooked with garlic lots of olive oil and spinach . Simmering for a couple of hours . So it ended up as a sort of bean stew . As kids we were not keen on it but he used to tuck in like it was the best thing ever !
I'm Canadian Palestinian and we always use allspice and black pepper, but cardamom and cumin as well...it needs all of those to taste like a true Palestinian dish to me :) Fasoolya is one of my faves!
Nice tip with the crock pot. I make fasoolya the traditional way, light frying the beans and then the meat in a different pan. Then combine them after the meat has been cooked well and add the tomato sauce and spices at the end. As you said, this takes some time, so I'll try the crockpot next time. Thanks, subbed to your channel. Loved the episode with your bro btw... pretty funny
Fiction Frenzy Yes that is a great way to make fasoolya! I use the crockpot way when I know I won't be home all day. :) Thanks so much for subbing, I look forward to sharing more recipes with you!
Hi Blanche, I love middleastern food but many things I don’t know how to make. Thank you for these videos and showing me how to cook these marvelous recipes.
I love the way you cook! I love your crockpot loobya recipe. You cook like my mom and aunts. Amazing & Delicious! I will try making loobya in the crockpot. Thank you for sharing.
HI Blanche! Love your Videos! Reminds me of my Teta's cooking! So I have made Fasoolya a billion times, but want to try the crock pot version. My concern is the green beans don't get too mushy?
Yes you can add them in about 30 minutes before you want to eat them if you like the green beans more firm. If you leave the French green beans all day, they turn out buttery, really depends on your preference. ;)
blanchetv Coz K Hey in algeria we call loubia only the white beans and fazola (z pronnonced like Zahra) green beans. By the way Blanche do you speak french ?
ok so what part of lamb am i buying for this dish? is it the shanks??? I just make a trini / jamaican curry goat the secret is to goat is to wash it with white vinegar and douce it with lime juice to get the gamey taste out. They also use allspice but it's jamaican style I am not sure if it's the same. So do you wash the lamb meat a certain way to make it less gamey ? You know i would love to add some dill to the sauce in this dish just to see if it will work.
+From zero to hero clash of lords I am not a fan of molohkia, but I heard the Egyptian one is good, never tried it! Thanks for watching, maybe someday I can train myself to like molokhia lol
Oh sorry ,thats no problem :) All what i can make is kifta on BBQ :-). I subscribed , and keep watching more videos to learn some more middle east food ! I knew molokhia, coz my mom and me visited egypt last summer, and we tried there this molokhia and we loved it . Thx for sharing and 100% like :)
Honestly the recipe stays the same without the slow cooker. Only difference is you put it all in a pot according to the same directions, and cook the stew for about one hour instead of all day :)
Is there a recipe for this ? It’s really hard to keep pausing the video while cooking, would be good to see qty of ingredients at the very least as there is quite a bit of guess work with your spice qty :(
I am publishing a cookbook before Christmas which will have specific written instructions for every single recipe on this channel along with many more. It took 10 years to put it together and I hope it helps the viewers of my channel! I am in the middle of publishing madness and late nights working on it as we speak =)
Pressure cookers can achieve the same meat falling of the bone but very quickly. Save time energy and locks in flavors as well pushes flavors into the food.
+bzalto You are so kind...thank you but because of the California drought we aren't gardening lately. I really hope for rain over here, it's really bad!!
Jacques Daoud There are two different kinds of allspice, there's the real allspice which round like a big pepper corn and there is the fake allspice which is a mixture of clove, cinnamon and nutmeg.I think she uses the real allspice.

In that cookbook this recipe calls for 1/2 can tomato paste, is that the small can or the larger size??
Edit: @BlancheTV
@@sisterspooky good question. It is the small can of tomato paste.

LOL great story! Yes the word fasoolya is used across many cultures to mean "beans" I think even the Italians use it too!
I’d love to have that recipe.
We love this recipe. Usually we put, besides garlic/onion, mushrooms, cumin, banana peppers and my add, diced turnips.
Wow interesting additions! Glad you love the recipe!
I love your recipes! They remind me of my childhood. Thanks! ☺️
Thank you so much--hope you subscribe! ;)

Ok that is too cool! Maybe there is a German equivalent? ;)
blanchetv maybe... my mom is visiting as of today for a month and a half so i shall find out.
Reina Greene did u find out?

I’ve generally found uncrowned “grey meat” quite fine. Browning forces you to use a lot of extra fat. I do use a quality bone broth for flavour.
Great video! I learned all my cooking from my TeaTea from Damascus and this is our favorite dish!!!
But??? What is the cut of lamb?
Lamb shoulder--the BEST! =)
Hey bro! I’m trying to make Tea Tea’s recipe too. Haha
@@kaitsakey6495 You got this! Follow Blanche's recipes ... its very much more detailed than our grandmothers.
"when you serve this your family will love you..." dead truth!
Hi Blanche, I love middleastern food but many things I don’t know how to make.

Looks delicious, I've never tried it...but will now. Thanks for the many great recipes. I love your videos.
michael23eitan Thanks for your feedback--hope you enjoy the recipe! ;)
Absolutely. Keep making videos & I'll keep watching...& eating :)
michael23eitan Haha sounds good ;)
Deer is a good alternative for lamb as well the flavor (at least to me) is very similar.

Yummmmy 😃😍💖⭐️😊
Habib💖⭐️
Thanks lovely dish 😊
What cut of lamb do you prefer for this ty ?
I like the lamb shoulder the best--enough bone to flavor the broth, and enough meat to fill up the family. ;)
mmmm yami :)
looks great ! and thanks for sharing , i want to know how they make Egyptian molokhya? do you know that?
greetings from the Netherlands:)
+From zero to hero clash of lords I am not a fan of molohkia, but I heard the Egyptian one is good, never tried it! Thanks for watching, maybe someday I can train myself to like molokhia lol

Love it :) YUM
Do you saute the lamb over high or medium high heat?
+bzalto high heat, I want it browned on the outside, I don't worry about the inside because I will be cooking it some more in the slow cooker or pot.
Hi is this canned crush tomatoes, or tomato paste, tomato sauce?
I like tomato sauce the best. But you can use crushed tomatoes if you like more texture.
May you share a recipe of this dish without slow cooker? Thank you.
Honestly the recipe stays the same without the slow cooker. Only difference is you put it all in a pot according to the same directions, and cook the stew for about one hour instead of all day :)
Thank you. You are wonderful.
Can I use beef?
I think so, although this dish traditionally uses lamb.
What cut of lamb is the best?
Lamb shoulder is my favorite ;)
Thank you love to watch you beautiful videos

Do you make open faced Mediterranean meat pies
How could this be done in a pressure cooker?
Hmm never tried a pressure cooker for this one, because it is the slow cooking that will make the lamb tender and fall off the bone ;)
Pressure cookers can achieve the same meat falling of the bone but very quickly. Save time energy and locks in flavors as well pushes flavors into the food.
Let me know how it goes if you try it out, as I have honestly never used a pressure cooker before ;)
You should try Lebanese green beans. They are the best on the planet.
+bzalto I eat lubya all the time, one of my favorites!
Well, I meant actual Lebanese beans grown from the seeds. They are the best on the planet.
+bzalto I will make sure if I ever go to Lebanon to find some to eat right away! :D
If you have a garden I will send some seeds to you and your lovely mom!
+bzalto You are so kind...thank you but because of the California drought we aren't gardening lately. I really hope for rain over here, it's really bad!!
holy smokes you have 2 kids??
Yes indeed :)
I like it but the meat to big & the oldspisce test like after shave cologne
LOL allspice not old spice! Thanks for the laughs today :D
