      @@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylineslol not really... you losing water doing what you are doing. You are filling a river that overflows at a dam that feeds large bodies of water that also overflow out... thus you are pumping say 3 water but dumping 2 and drinking 1... imo the ONLY time to use fluid dumps is to fill a "man made pond" to irrigate areas away from rivers and such...

  • @michalbouda2651
    @michalbouda2651 3 месяца назад +111

    Water dumps are consuming an insane amount of water, turn them on only when you need to. And ideally, build more water pumps at the dam (as many as is necessary) and big tanks right next to them. Love the vids, but it was killing me during the whole video😆, there is no reason to be low on water. Also raise the floodgates before the drought (badwater) starts, starting at the last dam and working towards the start. When you raise them right at the begging of the drought, there is already no water to fill them up.

    Those new dams REALLY don't need to all be floodgates. Levees with a single floodgate, or just regular dams, would be fine and use far less materials.

    • @crowaust
      @crowaust 3 месяца назад +4

      Yep, in general the number of blocks out of an area should be the same as the number of blocks into an area.(equal flow rates) if you want to maintain the height of the water. If you want it to drop then you want more on the exit.
      Levees are only 12 logs, Dams are 20 logs and the base game Flood gates use a combination of logs and planks.

    You don't need all you're pumps to pull from the deepest area of the reservoir, set more closer in the shallower end for better efficiency. You don't even have to turn them off during drought/badtide because there is really no way you'd drain it even during the longest interval.
    And unlock the engine, way better than the shaming wheel.

  • @unlucky1933

    The easiest way to fix the water situation is to build platform in front of the water pump at the dam, and put the water tank there. Then set the water tank to "supply to other storage" with prioritise by hauler. That would fix a lot of issue

    • @unlucky1933
      @unlucky1933 3 месяца назад

      Also, you can try to used Engine for power. It's unique for Iron teeth. But it used log as fuel. You'll need a lot of stored log if you want to build multiple of them.

    5:28 Because the breeding pods are constantly active, if you increase the lifespan of your beavers, the number of new beavers born before the first one dies will increase.
    In effect, as the Iron teeth your beaver population will increase as you improve their living conditions.

    I've not played enough to really know, but I keep feeling like many of the flood gates could reasonably be dams. On the premise that you almost always want to retain most water but allow flow to prevent overtopping. I have the impression flood gates are only needed where you need active control; completely blocking or rapidly dumping.

    • @SpamSucker
      @SpamSucker 3 месяца назад

      Agreed, plus those long runs of double/triple floodgates could have been mostly levees with only one dam or floodgate release point. Levees don’t use planks.

  • @ParasocialCatgirl

    Since they only have the one 15 unit water pump, you need a higher number to gain on daily use. You keep pausing them, keep large tanks close to pumps as source warehouses for distribution to beavers in smaller tanks. Use levees to create races for waterwheels.

  • @user-hq8pg1ne7n
    @user-hq8pg1ne7n 3 месяца назад

    One way to improve the efficency of the water pump is to place down some storage tank near the pump, so the pumper don't need to waste their time hauling water to your main storage when the cache at their pump house were full and no hauler can help the hauling job.
    Also your beaver is walking too far, if the road indicator turn red that means the beaver need quite a long time just to walk to there (starting at the village center) which means things will take lot more time to be finished since most of the time is spent at walking.

    You need water storage beside the Water Pumpers on the Dam, because of travel time, and Haulers can carry more water than water pumpers due to the bonuses that they get from being a hauler, it means that your water will move about more efficiently :)

    Water irrigates land based on how wide the water channel is and if its on the same tile or lower (this was changed in update 5? from a previous system). A 1 wide channel that is touching the top layer of land will hydrate something like 6 tiles on either side of it, 2 wide is a bit bigger, and 3 wide is significantly bigger. I can't find exact numbers but what I have found is something like 6-8-16 tiles. These numbers may be wrong. Wider than 3 makes no difference.
    Depth has no effect unless the water is below the ground level. SO if you build a 5 tall wall of levies, it will be the same irrigation as 1 tile down. You start losing irrigation once the water level drops below ground level so its no longer touching the surface tile (so if its only 1 tile deep, you would have no water, but if its 2 tiles deep that would be around 0.99 depth).

    12:39 what i have done is paused everything and put everyone on water and hauling, i have had about 1/2 the population pumping water during the wet season to restock water for the next drought
    you could build a path around the front of the dam...
    or you know just build the pump closer, add some supply tanks close to the pumps so if there is not a hauler in time the pump worker has more buffer till they make a long trip

    It may be beneficial to add a diversion for the water flow near the area seen at 28:02, that can be used if bad water ends up getting into the river at the top of the plateau. The diversion (which will require using dynamite) can help prevent the main water storage (the massive dam) getting polluted if you briefly forget to close the main diversion (at the water sources.)

  • @Valaki875

    You don't have to worry about running out of water source capacity for your beavers. I had colonies whit 300-350 beavers on 1-2 sources. just remember to store as much as you can in tanks. Reason is that 1 small tank can store 6 blocks of water.

  • @traisjames2
    @traisjames2 3 месяца назад +1

    In reguards to the water sources amount, yes, there is math that can be done, but it also depends on how strong the sources is. Default is 1, but you can make 1 source a strong as 20, or even make it so they suck in water.

  • @Mazurky
    @Mazurky 3 месяца назад +8

    Change 4 small water tanks for a medium one, don't use water dumps for water that will run in cycles, those added flood gates are useless in my opinion, just use blocks with one floodgate and you can see water source attributes when you use the dev menu.

    The point of the huge reservoir of water is so you can pump from it all the time, the pumps on the little river are not needed.
    Place a big tank near the pumps and set it to supply so haulers take water from that tank and move it to the rest of the tanks that should only be near the houses. XD

  • @mythirdlifeJS

    Have water answer for you. Essentially is no real limit to how many beavers a single generator can support. With some caveats.
    So, a generator tile is set to how much water it generates. Without going into map editor, I cannot say the specific value. So we can make assumptions.
    One water tile can support 2.5 beavers per day. A waterfall is roughy two tiles per second. If you restricted that tile to one width, it would get full, but not overflow. So even if we go conservative? If you had one cms/second of flow, that is still hundreds of beavers you could supply from that spring.

    The game itself needs a badtide/drought process macro button. Like a one button config for changing dam settings and production chains when those happen so you don't end up having to remember 90 things each time. QOL. I think it's time to split up two districts to drop the working distances for the new below dam areas.

    On water sources - there is maths that can be done, but it seems water sources have a hidden parameter for amount of water generated per second. If you build a stream gauge you can get the amount of flow, and from that I think you could reverse engineer the amount of water per second, and from there you can work out how many beavers you can sustain. But right now, it's not possible to work out.

    Biffa, you should change the orientation of your shaming wheel so you can add another one. Flip the shaming wheel's entrance from one side onto the side where the entrance of your smelter is at. That means you can add another wheel or maybe an engine behind it. They can run in series so you should be alright since you have space for another one or an engine.

    One water source can do 1m3/sec to 10m3/sec.
    If you want to know how many m3/sec you have, put the water level thingy, it indicates the debit too.
    Also, if you build correctly a cascade (not a straight fall), you can have 30m3/sec in a 1 block deep/1 block wide canal.
    I will search the video that explain it tomorrow and post it on the discord.

    From the research i've done in earlier version (I don't know about newer version) a dam have a height of .7 unit so it always open .3 unit. Meanwhile a single floodgate have option of .5 and 1 unit. So, your floodgates before dams don't really worked as you've been hoping for.
    You need to move 3 waterpump to your reservoir so you don't need to micromanaging those 3.
    I never played Timberborn with mods before, so you need to research how many step that vertical st airs count, because default stairs need 2 step. There is something called developer mode in Timberborn, maybe you may found other functions like water discharge and measurement or cheats like free warehouse fill and science points.

    Edit, once you get your water back on track (over 1k), I liked Fermented Mushrooms when I played the Iron Teeth. I think you need some tanks near your dam's water pumps.

    Great episode!
    The water dumps cut into your water storage quite a lot it seems.
    Do build that path around the main floodgate of the big water lake so beavers could reach the other 2 unused water pumps faster. Personally, I'd put water storage as close to these pumps as possible so they kept pumping all the time.
    Invest in better powersupply (didn't that faction have the steam engines of some sort?) because up to 8 beavers would be spinning the wheel instead of doing other job.
    It's truly the hardest map, it was a headache to deal with limited water when I played it.

    If you're worried about the water shortages in the river on the starting plateau (your "capital") I would suggest to remove the water pumps (don't really need them due to the massive dam below) and either dynamite the river bed to lower it or (if you want a cheaper alternate) clear out the edges of the river of trees, bushes, pumps ect and put dam blocks in their place to artificially contain more water so it would take a bit longer for the river to dry out (it would require a bit of fore-planning due to the bad tide but it could work well if done right plus it could give you the ability to create artificial channels to "green up" other parts of the plateau if you ever felt the desire to).
    Saying that though, If I was playing this game and map I would have created new towns and villages around the perimetre of the dam its self to help lever the pressure on the first town and make the capital increasingly redundant due to locating everything (water storage, industry ect) much closer to the dam/lake. It would help the colonies greatly if they never had to travel miles to help fill up the water storage on the plateau to keep the city-folk alive longer.

    Most of the water sources in the default maps produce 50 units of water per hour. A 'cube' of water is 5 units, and beavers drink 2 units per day. So two sources can provide enough water for 1200 beavers, if there are no droughts and no evaporation. Realistically, 250 beavers should not come anywhere close to emptying the dam, even with 50/50 drought cycles...
    Water sources can have a strength between 1 and 8; the default is 1 and produces 50, but map makers can set that higher, and at least one of the default maps has a 1.5 strength source.

Buy the biggest warehouses you can afford for things you know you'll need the whole game, like your main food source, water, planks, planks, gears, scrap etc. and just let them stack up. Your workers idle when things are full. The smallest size warehouse is too small and not really worth building.

    Oi @BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines, if you delete a path and put a ladder with the ladder part not in the way of the entrance or path, you can go up a level with storage without building all the platforms (you can go up many layers this way) and the path continues as normal.

    Pouring water to keep the upper area from drying up isn't this much of a good idea 😅 it uses waaaay too much water in order to be sustainable.
    I think this would be better to increase de depth of this upper part of the map and remove those dumpers
    Love from the baguette country ❤

    Stop the water dump
    And you can bloc the new areas byst by using levees

    Biffa more more more dams. Maybe you can just raise the height of your reservoir the same as your river. I mean, more water more days of survival. Add more depth to it.

    3:05 I would have just build the dam further out by those cliffs. More green space and less levy to need to build.

    In general try to have some water storage next to your pumps. If haulers don't get to the pump in time, it means the pumper has to go a short distance to drop off the water, reducing down time. The haulers can pick it up from either the pump or the adjacent storage so it makes no difference for your overall logistics.
    Also the mod with larger floodgates also has a floodgate that allows platforms to be built on top of them, allowing you beavers to cross over them. Also not sure why you used 5 floodgates at the end of the new extensions to the water storage you were building, you could have just put levees across and treated it as an extension of the main dam, which also would have used far fewer resources.
    Also your water dumps are above the level at which your top river will flood. You need to place them so they are at the level you don't want the water the go above. They will also use up more water than the pump, so if you have a water dump feeding a water pump, it will actually lose water overall. I really recommend getting the stream gauges mod as that can automate a whole load of things (eg setting gates to certain levels based on if it is a dry season or not, what the water level is etc)

    18:31 - just a theory but wouldn’t your water wheel perform better if your water pumps were down stream, lowering the down stream water volume which would raise the up stream water speed?
    Eg.
    100% water source -> water wheel -> water pump (removes water) -> 40% full
    => water moving fast due to higher volume moving into a lower volume space
    Vs your current layout
    100% water source -> water pump (removes water) -> 40% -> water wheel
    => water wheel has less volume pushing it therefore lower energy return
    I don’t have the game so I can’t quite test for you, but that’s just a theory that perhaps might help

    You've made your beavers travel a mad distance to carry one bucket of water. And you're forcing that distance even to dump water. Distances are everything. You should have a small tank right next to your pumps and have it supply a much larger storage in the middle of your settlement. Most resources should be like that - small storage where they're collected and large storage where it is needed. Also you should have pumps much closer anyway, you're creating a massive logistics problem for a key resource.

    Not sure why you have the water storage so far away from the pumps, yes you also need storage for water in the village for the working beavers, but if you build a larger water storage closer to the 3 pumps in the mega dam, that will be filled first, then you can have the haulers to move water from that tank to the smaller in the village. And never ever pause them on the dam, otherwise you will always have a low amount of water for the entire village

    I wonder, there where you placed your Canola plants, can't you place the deep water pumps there to drain water from the dam, if they can reach, if not maybe underneath the stairs, just so its closer.
    then you can pump from the far away pumps, when there is a drought.
    just a thought.

    To be fair they should add back the big pump giving 4 water with 2 beavers operating it ....

    I’ve never played this game but I’ve watched a lot of it so correct me if I’m wrong here please.
    Next to the two new floodgates, could you place platforms in the water, and make them large enough to hold water storages? That seems like it would make it easier for the beavers to store the water from the dam.

    A breeding pot only consumes 1 water a day, one adult beaver 2 water and one fluid dump consumes about 50 water a day, so that's your answer to what you should switch off. Since a recent update fluid dumps have become basically useless (other than late-game decorative reasons) so my advice is to just not use them for anything.
