  • This week, we’re bringing you the latest video from a series that we call Home Coffee Brewing with April. We join Emil in his Copenhagen apartment as he shares his approach to filter coffee brewing.
    We believe that innovation in coffee brewing starts at home, and that some of the most special and meaningful interactions with coffee can take place within your own kitchen.
    As we are frequently travelling visiting our international partners, we decided to introduce this format as a way to interact with you on a different level whilst maintaining the frequency of our videos.
    In this video, Emil brews a Kenyan coffee from Danish roasters Coffee Collective, using a Plastic April Brewer, April Paper Filters, a grinder from Wilfa and a Fellow kettle. He brews using local water which he filters himself, heated to 94 degrees and poured in 3 stages.
    We hope you enjoy this episode and we look forward to bringing you 4 more episodes from here in Copenhagen, before we head off to Chicago for the next chapter of the series.

      @@coffeewithapril I found the point that was made at around 14:30 pretty interesting - „water flows where water has been“.
      Been wondering how to saturate the coffee bed more evenly especially during the bloom, to set up the rest of the brew. I try to avoid swirling the brewer, as that tends to mute some of the sweetness for me. Maybe WDT?

    • @coffeewithapril
      @coffeewithapril  3 месяца назад +1

      @@lIlIlIllIlIlIlIIl we have seen a few WDT tools being used. There are some obstacles with that - it's easy to damage the paper filter if you are not careful. But, even saturation is why we are using a larger amount of water in the first pour.

      im curious if you can add some context of what the specialty coffee culture is like in the city you're showcasing? I feel like that would add some depth with how we view the home brewers approach!

    Love this series. No need for any fancy production value for it to be entetaining or educational. You convinced me to try Third Wave Water, since I'm currently mixing my Zerowater with store-bought mineralwater and not quite sure what I feel about it.

      Thank you for watching and sharing. We just released a more in depth video on Kenyan coffee together with a local farmer in the country that we are working with. There is indeed a lot of changes happening on farm level, some fuelled by the climate change and some from other factors.

    i use third wave water as well, and dilute it so i get around 60 tds. Can i ask when you used TWW, what TDS level did you prefer? or how much did you dilute it

    • @coffeewithapril
      @coffeewithapril  3 месяца назад

      Thank you for watching. Question, how do you know that you get the same ratio of minerals (given that the pack has more minerals than one) when you don’t use all of it?
      We usually aim for 40-60 but find that the composition and quality of minerals is more important than the total.

    I recently purchased April ceramic dripper set (for Serax). Bad craftsmanship. The dripper doesn't even sit stable on the ceramic cup provided in the box. The dripper hole is uneven and the rim is so rough without glaze. The lid handle is so short, I cannot hold it in fingers. Terrible user experience, even before using it. Not the quality I expected for $80.

      That was the very first version of the Brewing Kit we ever made, several years ago. We have learned a lot since then and changed production.
