Wow - Timo can really fix anything. I very much like how you walk through all the repairs first by making drawings and think it through. True MacGyver style. 💪
Timo is crawling around and working on his back looking up like Michelangelo do Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni working on the Sistine Chapel confidently baring his soul to the camera. Bravo! That shipyard will be a better place because your family chose to repair NV there. They watched and learned how to service high tech racing yachts and now they will advertise it as a service. They should be paying you.
Haha thank you for the lovely comment… it would be great if we’ve helped the yard in some way, the workers there are lovely… the yard manager however is quite the character and not sure he’s going to be changing anything any time soon 😉
Theres such a lack of pretence on your channel, its so refreshing :) Wishing you all the best but its pretty obvious your in safe and knowledgeable hands'a
Timo engineer and Mr fix extraordinaire. He can shape shift to fit in very tight spaces as well. Is there no end to this mans talents... So pleased that is an other job completed.😎
Very cool, and amazing to see such a unique system of NV up close! So i understood that potentially the vibration from the high speed has moved the rudder a bit lower, and after that the steering became stiff, and now you put it back up with the jacks. Was super cool to see how easily this gigantic structure works now! What i did not get fully, what will keep it from dropping again once you are going fast? You added some additional holding bolts on the top sleeve? Or basically they were most likely not tight enough the first time?
We’ve thought about this but we need to be able to access the area (and there are the steering cables etc)… so we’d need to install 2 more hatches to separate the compartment, which is something we’re not keen to do just yet as we want to change the rudder setup sooner or later
Grazie Giovanni ,ma non preoccuparti sono tutti lavori che amo fare e la barca mi ripaga con tanta soddisfazione solo soffro un po’ quando i video non hanno molto successo
Any solvent will loosen the rust. Diesel in a seized old engine is often enough to release the rust. heat cycling the joint with a torch can work. don't be afraid to heat cycle 5 or 10 times but don't light your boat on fire. Sometimes force will damage the bearing so save it for last... followed by cutting the bearing. Glad it didn't come to that.
It doesn’t look like anything else was damaged when you lost the bottom of the rudder. Is there a lot of benefit to extending it and increasing the risk of hitting another bottom?
Haha also what is with toilets and boatyards? Even in France i installed a new, not falling seat, and removed a mummified dead pigeon :) Unfortunately about the sink which got clogged by polyurethane foaming material washed in it even we could not help though 😀
I find the challenges that Timo faces in dealing with the rudder bearing fascinating but unfortunately through no fault of his find it very difficult to follow what he is trying to accomplish and how he is going about it. If I was more familiar with the set up it would be easier but I’m not. Is there any way that you can dub what he is saying during the editing process? I can’t help but admire his improvisation skills and as I’ve said before having Timo as a skipper with all his experience must be great. I would love to sail with him but at 81 I’m too old.
Hey Mark sorry about this, yeah it’s quite a complicated setup and I probably didn’t explain it thoroughly enough, espc how the bearing is made etc. unfortunately I can’t edit/dub it now it’s uploaded but if we make another video about the rudder bearing in the future, I’ll try and do a better job 👍🏻 Thanks for all the nice comments ☺️
Well done Timo, a tricky job. It seems like you have two separate ropes controling the quadrant, redundancy. I find it difficult to understand your accent, perhaps you could try using a phonetic language learning system.
Hardly a troglodyte! Haha! It would be nice to have a sealed compartment around the rudder mechanism in case of a catastrophic leak. It looks like that would be difficult or impossible in your situation. Avoid encounters with mischievous orcas.
I absolutely love watching you guys but as time goes on Timo seems to become more Italian every episode, I literally only understand 25% off what's he says now, when I watch vidoes from a year or so ago definitely easier to understand, please don't be offended I love Italy, I love the food more😂, just want to keep watching without skipping bits I don't understand.

Cheers Tyman 🍻🤗
Timo's ingenuity is always amazing. Love your channel.
Very nice to hear thank you 🙏☺️

Good work in difficult circumstances. Looking forward to when you install twin rudders, an interesting project and a huge improvement.
Yeah so are we!!

Thanks ☺️
Well done Timo! Love the way you think through everything instead of just banging away and hoping for the best.
Cheers Michael ☺️

Yeah it’s crazy how he manages to work in our stern, i find it difficult just to poke my head in there haha
nice work TImo!
Thank yooouuu 🙏

Grande, avanti cosi 💪
Grazie ci puoi contare
Well done Timo!👍👍🥳
Thanks Paul ☺️
🔥🔥🔥🔥GENIUS 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
🥳🙏
Nicely worked out, I'm sure I'd have left those bolts too long, and the lock ring wouldn't have slipped past nice one
Hey Hedley, timo has spent a lot of time studying the system (which he hates haha)
Very good work well done.
Cheers 🍻

Hi Peter, good question, yeah the original ones weren’t long enough or pointy so we just drilled them in further 👍🏻
I'm wondering if you have a bulkhead separating the rudder compartment from the living area. That way if the rudder breaks than you won't sink.
We’ve thought about this but we need to be able to access the area (and there are the steering cables etc)… so we’d need to install 2 more hatches to separate the compartment, which is something we’re not keen to do just yet as we want to change the rudder setup sooner or later
Accidenti io mi lamento di quanto lavoro ho da fare sulla mia barca, mavedendi i tuoi lavori mi consolo😅😅😅. Un caro saluto dall'Italia Giovanni

Thanks Robert, wise words 👍🏻
Impressed by the forced improv engineering. Well done captain.
@ thanks Adrian 🙏
The Timo finger belongs on the Sistine Chapel ceiling.
Hahaha nice idea ;)
It doesn’t look like anything else was damaged when you lost the bottom of the rudder. Is there a lot of benefit to extending it and increasing the risk of hitting another bottom?
Right nothing else was damaged but when going at very high speeds the rudder cavitates sooner when it’s shorter
Is the bearing installed "backwards" to ensure the rudder wont fall off the boat?
The company the built the bearing were very surprised to see it like that as it was impossible to remove from the stock
If you have a tarp and some gravel, I would line the pit with the tarp and toss some gravel in the bottom to stop the water intrusion.
Yeah good idea we thought about this but it was difficult to find a big waterproof tarp here good enough quality to make it worthwhile
Haha also what is with toilets and boatyards? Even in France i installed a new, not falling seat, and removed a mummified dead pigeon :) Unfortunately about the sink which got clogged by polyurethane foaming material washed in it even we could not help though 😀
Haha wow that makes our toilet situation look good!!!

Well done Timo, a tricky job. It seems like you have two separate ropes controling the quadrant, redundancy. I find it difficult to understand your accent, perhaps you could try using a phonetic language learning system.
Yep we have 2 independent rope setups for the rudder so we have a backup if one fails… sorry about the accent
Hardly a troglodyte! Haha! It would be nice to have a sealed compartment around the rudder mechanism in case of a catastrophic leak. It looks like that would be difficult or impossible in your situation. Avoid encounters with mischievous orcas.
Hey Michael, yes right, we had planned a sealed compartment but have decided to change the rudder system first (with the 2 exterior rudders)

Sure
Chow.
Complicated..made simple by the ubber mechanic.
👍🏻💪🏻😉
captain Timo looks 10 years older than 1 year earlier should you go for more manageable size boat?🥲 jokes aside good content good luck.
Haha it’s the beard 🧔
