I've just watched Margaret Lockwood in the film 'The Lady Vanishishes'. I was absolutely captivated by her. Not only is she stunningly beautiful, but a marvellous actress too.
I am now 77 years old, I have watched this lady from being an infant, I now watch her in the weekly repeats of Justice, on the Talking Pictures site, (FREEVEIWE). She really is better than ever in this great series, of 3 with a total of around 36 episodes. Highly recommended, with many old faces in each episode. She was and still is beautiful, keep up the good work. from, Colin. the UK.
A lovely lady a true star, no airs and graces just a sophisticated attitude to herself and her career and looking wonderful, there are few actresses who aged so gracefuly. I love her films most would say The Wicked Lady is their favourite mine is the gorgeous Technicolor movie Jassy, she looks stunning beautiful and she and Esme Cannon act the socks off of the rest of the cast, if you haven't seen Jassy you've missed a great film with a great story with excellent acting.
Depends how you look at it - as far as British Films are concerned she was the top actress taking over the mantle from Valerie Hobson before her - i dont think anyone actually took over from Ms Lockwood to be honest as by the time her run had finished the film industry had completely changed and i dont count anyone who did go to Hollywood as that is a complelely different kettle of fish - thank goodness she didnt go to Hollywood thats what i say
Currently watching her in weekly episodes of 'Justice' on Talking Pictures TV. If ever a role was made for an actress...or an actress made for a role. There was definitely ''something of the night'' about Margaret Lockwood.
THEY SAY OUR EYES NEVER CHANGE AND ITS TRUE EVEN HERE AS AN OLDER WOMAN HER EYES HAVENT CHANGED . BEAUTIFUL WOMAN I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG ERA. WOMEN TODAY JUST LACK THAT ELEGANCE AND MYSTERY.
The comment tracy was not absolute so RELAX calm down but women from that era had a certain appeal but lets face it women back then were extremely feminine a different time NO swearing or BOOBS hanging out F words in every sentence. Young women today should take homage from these actresses from the 30s and 40s.
Absolutely fascinating to see this great actress interviewed - thank you so much. That the legendary Margaret Lockwood was once present at the Pebble Mill Studios in Birmingham seems somehow as incongruous as bumping into her at Tescos! The Wicked Lady is one of my favourite movies, a great rollicking romp that entertains from start to finish and Miss Lockwood runs away with it despite strong competition from the great James Mason. I'm sure I'm not the first to note that she would have made a fabulous Scarlett O' Hara had Vivian Leigh not been available for the role!
Its a shame there aren't that many filmed interviews that exist of Margaret Lockwood. She is very interesting to listen to and I love the way she talks.
So interesting to see this interview. My sister and I used to love watching old black and white films and the 'Wicked Lady' was such great fun with hilarious innuendoes in the script. Margaret Lockwood was a great star with wonderful style and character. Thank you for posting.
What the heck did Margaret do to you, Eric? I smell a troll...She was a huge star in Britain and one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. I'm just sorry she died not that old. 73's nothing nowadays. It's great that this interview survives.
Chelsea Molcher Wow that's awesome Chelsea. May I ask what she was like? I've recently become a huge fan and have tried to watch as many of her films as possible. My favourite is The Wicked Lady. I'm a member of her Facebook fan group and have a book about her. Just a stunning woman.
Joseph Glover I'm afraid you're asking the wrong person. I didn't know her all that well. By the time I was old enough to appreciate who she was she had already died. Everything I know I have been told by family.
She was such a lovely lady. And a witty one too. Watched a couple of the old movies lately- Night Train to Munich, The Lady Vanishes. She had gorgeous eyes, wonder if Gainsborough Studios was affiliated with the old Artistic Co.
Thank you very much for posting this video. Personally, I have three regrets: that I never met Cary Grant, Madeleine Carroll, but most of all Margaret Lockwood. There are no other words to describe it.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. I always enjoyed The Lady Vanishes and was excited to see this later interview of this talented, hard-working actress. Thank you very much.
A top drawer actress!!! Love all of her films and love watching the re-runs of 'Justice' on Talking Pictures. Such an interesting, lively and beautiful woman...so sad she is no longer with us.
I was watching The Man in Grey and decided to see if there was any clips on youtube of her. What a treat and she seemed such a delightful lady a far cry from her very convincing evil character in The Man in Grey. Brilliant to see this. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for uploading. Never seen her interviewed before. They don't seem to show her films on Tv so much any more. She seems very open and full of laughter. I didn't know she had worked in Hollywood in '39. If she'd arrived sooner maybe she would have had an audition for Scarlett O 'Hara ?
wow thanks for this, I've recently watched the first two series of "Justice" (my first introduction to Margaret Lockwood) despite it being made 10 years before I was born. It's fantastic. Margaret was such a powerful actress. I can't till series 3 gets released on DVD. I will have to watch some of her movies!
A great actress indeed and I really admired her and those now classic movies. We also share the same birthday 15th September and like her I am the textbook Virgo. Rest in Peace wonderful lady.
Lockwood made 'The Wicked Lady' a true delight to watch, playing her role with more than a tinge of humor. So evil and selfish, yet so funny under it all. I wish that the interview had also discussed her work in "Cast A Dark Shadow' (1955) in which she was excellent. I look forward to seeking out her other films.
My partner is going deaf in her left ear as well. I laughed when Margaret explained if someone says something on her left they have to come around to her right to say it. I get told that often lol
What a marvelous actress and film star. Sheer class and with an intellect to match. Compare her amazing talent and enduring star quality, to the utter crap and appalling acting, one has to put up with, when engaging with today's so called actors/actresses and of course those idiotic, talentless, airheaded celebrities.
I heartily agree. I miss these wonderful actresses and actors of yesteryear, as well as the great classic films they made. Nothing like any of it today, or very rare.
I cant think of any actress who was above Margaret Lockwood in her film period - she was the biggest female star in British films taking over from Valerie Hobson before her - perhaps just underneath her on the ladder at that time would have been the likes of Googie Withers ,Jean Kent and Phylis Calvert but they never quite reached the hight that Ms Lockwood did - im glad Hollywood didnt work out for her - much better to be a big fish in a small pond than a medium sized fish in a sea of paranas
Fantastic! Loved hearing about her screen test and how her eyebrows, let's say, got in the way. The gem was hearing about having to reshoot scenes for US audiences becauseof too much cleavage. Another example of how that movie code stunted American morality. My only complaint is it was over too quickly, I waned to hear so much more!
Thanks for posting! I love the added laugh of the Anglia Television card at the start! (For the uninitiated, 'Saturday Night..' was a BBC show, and Anglia Television was part of ITV, its commercial competitor. Moreover the show was produced in Birmingham, while Anglia was based in Norwich.)
My Mum was the image of Margaret Lockwood. She told me that on several occasions she was approached by someone saying, "may I please have your autograph Miss Lockwood".
I can drink most people under the table. Learned how to. When I began doing interviews, the stars drank and expected you to drink with them. So you had to be able to drink, ask questions and remember the answers.
I wonder what led her to live out her last years in seclusion. I believe she died from cirrhosis of the liver; may be drinking covered up a lot of things we are not a party to.
Lovely lady...ever so English with posh cut - gl [o] ss diction, the murmurs, the pauses...but ironic that she claims she was a teetotaler...but died of cirrhosis of the liver...evidently something happened along the way that gives her that Brandy soaked purr. Love Dame Margaret in the Lady Vanishes and The Stars Look Down.
Lana Turner had to shave off her eyebrows as well.... And they never grew back! Miss Lockwood is my all time favorite British actress 🇬🇧🎬 Miss Turner my all time American! 🇺🇸🎬
I've just seen The wicked lady and SHE was AMAZING in it!! My new favourite actor. No actors or movies like that now!! Film now is rather a bore. The age of the Cartoon superhero movie, yawn.
The Wicked Lady was a movie that I have just seen at the age of 79. It was disturbing and overacted, and it does nothing for the women's movement. She says in this interview that she was a tea drinker, but she died a recluse of cirrhosis of the liver.
Smoking also causes liver cirrhosis, and Margaret loved her cigs. Towards the end of her life, unless Phylils Calvert took her out, she only ventured to the local shops for cigarettes and instant hot chocolate.
I've just watched Margaret Lockwood in the film 'The Lady Vanishishes'. I was absolutely captivated by her. Not only is she stunningly beautiful, but a marvellous actress too.
Richard totally agree you wont find women like that anymore.
I certainly have a notion to second THAT emotion !!

Just bought her autograph and a photo to be framed. Amazing actress and I'm.only 50
One of the greatest actresses of all time. What a lady (and not just The Wicked Lady). She was wonderful.
I loved her in The Lady Vanishes and Bank Holiday.
My sentiments exactly !!
Thank you so much Phil for recommending Jassy, I just found it an im just about to watch it. xoxox
OMG. I just found this. My first boyhood crush....the Wicked Lady herself. Glamorous and classy until the end. RIP.
I am very lucky to have seen Margaret Lockwood in this play at Birmingham Rep and I recall it was a full house. Thanks for posting this interview...
Clive, you are very lucky indeed. I enjoy reading your reviews on Amazon (you must be the same one!).
The wicked Lady is one of my favorite old films.
She could play a really good vixen and was quite ahead of her time
The very definition of an under-rated actress! Love her, and still looking good at 63!
Absolutely! Just saw Cast a Dark Shadow- wonderful!
Depends how you look at it - as far as British Films are concerned she was the top actress taking over the mantle from Valerie Hobson before her - i dont think anyone actually took over from Ms Lockwood to be honest as by the time her run had finished the film industry had completely changed and i dont count anyone who did go to Hollywood as that is a complelely different kettle of fish - thank goodness she didnt go to Hollywood thats what i say
why shouldnt she? what do you think people look like at 63 ffs.the ageism.educate yourself
She was never underrated! She was always a star. Btw, I’m an American.
Not underrated by me!
Lovely! Talented, thoughtful, candid with identity of her own
Did she marry, who was her husband.?
So true. Well said and well put!
Currently watching her in weekly episodes of 'Justice' on Talking Pictures TV. If ever a role was made for an actress...or an actress made for a role. There was definitely ''something of the night'' about Margaret Lockwood.
I just watched Wicked Lady tonight and it was truly glorious. One of the finest movies of British cinema
THEY SAY OUR EYES NEVER CHANGE AND ITS TRUE EVEN HERE AS AN OLDER WOMAN HER EYES HAVENT CHANGED . BEAUTIFUL WOMAN I WAS BORN IN THE WRONG ERA. WOMEN TODAY JUST LACK THAT ELEGANCE AND MYSTERY.

@@haydenwittig8877 , and no tattoos which look so common on women.
@@barbaracrickley6191 Barb well yes thats true.
my god, she's still beautiful! just watched three of her films in a row and love her deeply.
YOU CAN TELL SHE COMES FROM THAT ERA HERE USE OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE IS WONDERFUL . BORN IN 1916 THAT MADE HER 22 IN THE LADY VANISHES IN 1938.
I loved this....Margaret Lockwood was a lovely lady! Loved her in The Lady Vanishes...my introduction to her...and Night Train to Munich!
What a treat to see this. I have never seen her interviewed before. She comes across as a really chaming lady.
I heartily concur !!
Could listen to her for hours. Fascinating. Beautiful lady and a marvellous actress

I agree she would have been perfect as Scarlet, wonder if she would have mastered the southern accent.?
she also looks like vivan leigh a bit.
When I first saw her films I thought the same. Beautiful actress.
Its a shame there aren't that many filmed interviews that exist of Margaret Lockwood. She is very interesting to listen to and I love the way she talks.
Indeed!
I loved this lady from the tv series JUSTICE from the 1970’s, she will be one of Britain Television greats, the late Margaret Lockwood VIP.
So interesting to see this interview. My sister and I used to love watching old black and white films and the 'Wicked Lady' was such great fun with hilarious innuendoes in the script. Margaret Lockwood was a great star with wonderful style and character. Thank you for posting.
Stella Yates The innuendos are a RIOT! “I like to drive a hard bargain!” - such a great film
What a charming woman. And so interesting to listen to.
I agree 100 percent !!
I love to watch Margaret Lockwood......my late Mother was the spitting image of her......quite uncanny.
Jean simmons, Margaret lockwood and liz taylor had it ☺
Absolutely! 😜
What the heck did Margaret do to you, Eric? I smell a troll...She was a huge star in Britain and one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen. I'm just sorry she died not that old. 73's nothing nowadays. It's great that this interview survives.

Joseph Glover Margret Lockwood is my great great aunt. Thank you for speaking highly of her

I agree. In the lady vanishes and her other early films she was very pretty.

An excellent actress and a great beauty. Check out her marvelous range in Bedelia and Cast a Dark Shadow.
I watched her last night in 'The Lady Vanishes'. She o-stars with Michael Redgrave. It's a very good film.

@tcmamc glad people like it!
Wonderful actress " . Her daughter disowned her for years for some reason.... Took to the bottle in the end....
Untrue. People assumed that because she died of liver cirrhosis. She was a teetotaller her whole life as stated in this interview.
A true star 👍
'I'm a teetotaller' ... and yet her Wiki entry gives as her cause of death - cirrhosis of the liver.
You can get liver cirrhosis without being a drinker.
At times, Margaret resembles Myrna Loy

Always disappointing to listen to actors and actresses as they speak about their values, morals, etc.
Oh dear you standards must be a tad unrealistic if Margaret Lockwood disappointed you - you must live a life of eternal disappointment
