5 things that makes this a good Self Defense blade

- Things that make the Cobratec Knives Kingpin a good self-defense blade:
-The end of the handle provides an aggressive grip point with jimping when the knife is held in reverse grip
-At 8 inches overall length, it is good for conceal carry
-It has a top swedge which reduces the point thickness for improve piercing
-The blade is canted with top limping for optimal forward grip
-The handle is textured g10 for a secure hold
-The blade comes with a quick deploy kydex sheath and versatile holster
The Kingpin blade was purposefully designed to serve as the ultimate urban defensive blade for daily carry.
Zoltan Gero, a Hungarian knife-maker, designer, and former professional soldier, collaborated w. CobraTec to create Kingpin. His background and comprehension of edged weapons were solidified by his experiences practicing martial arts, including Mauy Thai, and teaching Krav Maga. His operational involvement supporting US and Hungarian Special Forces in Afghanistan gave him an understanding of the necessity for high-perforamance blades. He has particapted in the production of blades tailored for military, law enforcement, and prepared civilians.

As someone who learnt to knife fight while training with Thai Commandos, the moment a knife is involved, get ready to get cut, even if it's your own knife.
learned
so true.
Indeed
That sounds like Sober knowledge.
Most people will be afraid to fight someone with a knife unless its a commando or drunk. Knife is great for everyday use and as a last resort in a fight.
Pulling a knife saved me from getting my head kicked in once when I got jumped about 6 or 7 years ago. Just a mini-griptillian
Scary part is were you ready to use it if it that scenario came by? I carry a knife on my with minimal training, and even though maybe pulling a knife out will scare most aggressors, you still need to be ready to use it and willing to go a 100% with it
Can you tell more in detail what happened?
@@georgex7442no, because he's talking shyte.
Knives are meant to be felt, and not seen. Special forces operator once told me ,if you have to use a knife, PLAN ON GETTING CUT OR STABBED,IT IS GOING TO HAPPEN!
Nobody wins a knife fight I was told.
“A special forces operator told me”…… 😂
Special Forces.... that's just general rules to knife combat, real knife training teaches how and wear to take the cuts, cause your gonna get cut, it's that simple.
Look up stabbings and most of the time the person swinging the knife that wins 😂
@@djcunningham-sy8vmYeah I head someone say one time the 2nd place winner of a knife fight dies on the scene. The 1st place winner dies en route to the hospital. Always get away from the knife. No shame in running
#1 the only fight you win is the one that doesn’t happen, trust me. It’s not worth the legal bullshit or pain.
#2 do not fight unless you or someone you love are in serious danger, & once it’s at that point you’re better off with lethal force.
Five times more people die by knife than by gunshot: government statistic I just learned.
It's the "bang" that scares people about guns.
@@scottmckenna9164 5 times as many are killed by knife than by all rifles, not guns . Rifles about 3 percent of all murders, shotguns also 3 percent, hands and feet about 6 percent, bludgeons about 10 percent, handguns around 66 percent. Round numbers, leaving out some categories(poisoning, vehicular homicide etc) I looked at statistics from 1993 to 2016 a few years ago. That's the rough percentages. Source the FBI Uniform Crime Report.
So no knives are not the biggest killer, handguns are. But the much maligned AR15 is included in the Rifles category.
If you push a false argument it ruins your credibility.
That also makes you wonder why the demonization of the AR15,because it has been used in high profile incidents, but is far from the biggest problem.
Some of those incidents could be false flag events, helped by agents provocateur.

@@scottmckenna9164 lethal force can be a knife
As someone who's actually had to use a knife in self defense before and also been sent to prison because of it and as someone who's also been stabbed 6 times myself, a knife is ONLY effective if you use it fast, and only effective against people who are primarily sober, someone drunk or high WILL NOT FEEL It, and will continue to fight you, if you are outnumbered you're better off using your hands because they WILL over power you and they WILL use it against you
True...if you making in and out...stab and twist...😉
That's why I carry a gun. Can't fight or out run a glock, especially if they have no idea you have it
Stabbing and slashing to critical spots is still viable against drunk or high opponents
Or just go for the neck..?
@@archowl7 or just carry a gun??
I was taught never introduce a weapon in a conflict you can’t hold on to because it will be used against you.
This is 100% correct. Many people believe that by simply have a gun, or a knife in this case, they are automatically ready to defend themselves. That's like thinking just because you have a car, you are automatically an expert driver who can go anywhere and do anything.
Training and skillset is far, far more important than choice of knife. I would rather have an expert knife fighter wielding a butter knife on my side, than some total newbie wielding a lightsaber.
That said, this is only a video short on RUclips, so I am not going to harp on it too much.
I learned to knife fight back in the 1500s back when London was a different place. Thanks for the tips.
Bro what
The sixth thing every knife needs to be a good self-defense knife is a wielder that knows how to use it.
No use a gun
Getting into a knife fight is what I like to call "mutually assured murder. "... don't do it, you will get hurt guaranteed.. defend and run.. if you can't do that, then don't focus on the weapon focus on the hand wrist and arm holding it. You'll have to make quick decisions on which parts of yourself you're willing to sacrifice to survive. Not a good situation to be in avoid at all costs.
Bingo.👍👍
Waiting for the Hardcore Henrys to dispute your valid point.
@@micahputman3374i agree to not do it, but you don't have to be so pessimistic. If you have to do it, you need to believe you're gonna win.
@Sam 0 no you need to understand that there's a chance you won't even if you do...
Even if you come out of it alive.. you may use the bathroom in a bag the rest of your life or lose all feeling in your arm or possibly be emasculated in some way.. you may succumb to blood loss before you ever get help.. it's a crap shoot even if you know what your doing.
If it gets to the point where I need to pull my knife to defend myself, the gun is coming out.
I feel you, but a good knife is a good backup tool to get you to your gun if necessary. More doors=higher chance of survival.
Well deadly force options are generally justified if facing deadly force. The options available to you are not specific to tool types, merely the best solution to the problem at hand.
Hopefully you can at least try to talk to the person before it comes to that. But if it goes that other way, I get it.

To be honest, you're much better off carrying a gun, and if you're a felon, you can't carry knives for defense, so that argument is invalid and if you carry anything to defend your life just carry a gun. Less messy, you don't have to be arms length, and what would you do if someone pulled a gun on you and all you have is a lil knife? Ever heard the saying "don't bring a knife to a gun fight?" We’re gonna need to add knives to the Second Amendment because Gavin Newsom will make every knife she’s ever spoken about illegal in five minutes if given the opportunity
The second amendment says "arms" which covers alll manner of weapons. Supreme Court, also called all common use weapons are protected by the 2nd amendment.
Because these stupid violent fucks keep shooting and stabbing each other.
@@Gun.BarrelSo dumb people still think the second amendment still holds weight. There were no arms in use back then like the semi automatic pistols and fully automatic rifles we have today. You couldn't exactly shoot up a restaurant with a musket
@@Yorikoification You seem to not understand why the second amendment was written. It was written to protect the nation from invaders. It is exactly how we won the revolution against Britain. There are over 300 million guns in private hand in this nation, how many have killed someone? The crimes with guns aren't even well known, everyone is just afraid. How many crimes are even committed with a semi auto rifle? Less than 7% Most gun crimes are done with handguns.

1rst rule of self defense is,
Always remember, any weapon you bring, might be taken, and ... (got savvy?).

Long story short, another RUclipsr showed that the reverse grip is really important when defending yourself. He showed how the knife could be used against yourself if the assailant is able to overpower you.
Absolutely.
In many countries a knife that big is not a legal carry you can get arrested and charged for carrying a weapon
Where I live it’s legal to carry a knife three inches or less but you have to be careful how the police measure the blade so I recommend carrying a knife less than 2.75 inches maximum
I carry a tiny Swiss Army knife works good for me it’s always sharp
damn what oppressive country do you live in
From what I have heard, when it comes to knife fights.
"One dies on spot, the other dies in an ambulance."
That is nearly the perfect sized blade. The fact it is a fixed blade automatically takes it to the top for me as a EDC.
This is the best one youve showed to date.
Would be nice to tell the viewers the type of steel used to make the knife
It's D2 so you can sharpen to a razor edge.
While it may lack the “coolness” factor, I’m aware that a typical EDC pistol can be operational way beyond arms length.
Isn't there an axiom about bringing a knife to a gunfight?
In commando school, they teach you the knife is the last thing you use after everything else doesn't work. Having one as your go-to EDC is insane.
You are correct in that you always bring the right tools to solve the problem at hand.
However, not all fights are gun fights. And by the time you have to resort to a knife, it's generally either defend yourself with a knife or defend yourself with nothing else left but your bare hands.
“Knives make karate effective.” A lot of places like NYC will arrest you for a gun, but you can have a knife on you concealed. That’s the law there! So, if you know how to fight the right knife can be a fine weapon in the fight. Much better to have a knife than not IF you’re trained to a high level.
Its also situational. Know your target and whats behind your target. You may not be in a position where its safe to put rounds down on your target.

You must train daily with your knife to be effective.

There ain't no such thing as self-defense with a knife
I mean you were getting attacked would you rather have a knife or would you rather not have a knife.
All I'm saying is that a knife is not something you use for self-defense
@Vasil Pachov a knife is a universal tool should you use it for self defense no but if you're in a self defense situation you'll feel a lot better knowing you have a knife at your disposal (just cause you have a knife doesn't mean you have to use it)
@Gavin Chacon if you're, let's say, in a self-defense situation, having a knife at your disposal gives you a sense of confidence and it will increase the chances of you to engage in a situation where complying or running would be better. A knife is not something you just wipe out because it changes the scenario you are no longer just trying to protect yourself but you are directly endangering a life be it his or yours. Once a knife is out the mindset and mentality changes from a mere robery or a dumb scenario where someone is trying to act all tough to a life or death situation. Also if someone's intention is to harm you, stab you or kill you trust you won't notice he has knife until your bleeding. Most of the time a knife is put out in an everyday situation is for either a robery or an idiot trying to be tough and in those situations it's just best to either comply, run or just let it past away.Sooo yeah there ain't no such thing as a self-defense with a knife. If you want to carry something carry a telescopic police batton, spray maybe taser but not a knife. Atleast that's my opinion.

An assassin once told me if you're going to kill someone with a knife do it from behind so you cant look them in the eye.
A bolster is put on military fighting knives for one reason. In battle the blood makes the hand really slippery. Without it your hand will slip off the handle and down the blade causing massive injury to the hand. I use the knive you have for survival ESSE. For a fighting knife I use a bowie.

Thanks for the first look. I like the scalloped handle on this. A knife in this exact category and price range with a great handle, more aggressive blade profile and 1095 steel is the TOPS Cut 4.0. It has a karambit style handle ring to lock your pinky in and make it easier to reverse grip. MSRP is the same, and like the Cobratec (in harder D2) it’s USA made. Also the TOPS has a great Kydex scout carry sheath with pull the dot loops so nothing to configure and rides close to your belt. Razor sharp out of the box. I like it enough I got one for my belt and one for upside down carry on a pack.
Good nice for my food preparation requirements.
I was talking to John Rambo back in the 80s and he told be you needed at least a 8 inch blade to stick a lug and reach the vital organs.
There are no winners in a knife fight… someone just loses less.
Hi, I too love blades and advocate blade self defense.
Unfortunately, there are a few things I disagree with, and I would like to respectfully explain why that is.
1) The end of the grip with the handle jutting out is indeed a very good design, as that helps you deploy your knife reliably.
However, it is not necessary if you are attempting to grip the blade in reverse grip. Even if you want to cap your blade with your thumb, the jutting is not necessary.
5) Friction fit retention on the sheathe is not new, and is pretty much the industry standard these days, but it is very necessary yes.
I don't have a problem with the rest, unless I am trying to be nitpicky.
That's a really nice knife!!
Im just waiting for them to outlaw self defense in cali in general. Terrifying prospect

@@songjunejohnlee2113with the lack of sense their recent policies make out there, yeah, I wouldn't be surprised at that point.

I really like this Melissa ❤
Just make sure you never sit down with a knife that way. It's very uncomfortable.
Also, remember that no self defense tool should ever reduce your wariness and situational awareness. Many folks have thought their knife makes them tough. No, it just lowers your caution and provides a false sense of security.
Always assume your knife is just a tool. And in a major pinch yes can be used as a weapon. Id much rather run the hell away than get in a knife fight. But id also rather have a knife against an armed attacked than have nothing.
Hide first, then retaliate if necessary. Words to live by when surviving is the goal.
@@noahjones4237 Yeah. There are only a handful of situations where you are perhaps obligated to engage with an assailant, like being unable to flee or if someone else's life is in immediate danger.
I just dislike the idea that my knife somehow makes it safer for me to go some places. Like if there's a part of one feels they can't go to without a weapon....they should probably not go there period, weapon or not.
Put it scout carry in the left side butt forward you don’t even feel it. I carry an 8.5” TOPS Cut 4.0 on my left, handle ring forward, and can hook the loop and have it in my hand in seconds, but you don’t even know it’s there when sitting.

Never take this knife to a gunfight.
I like your killer style. Might Adopt it myself. Along side the knife.
Your face makes me happy
3 problems. Without hand guards as soon as you stick someone with that your hand is going to slide down on the blade cutting it wide open. Second without blood grooves or fullers on the side of the blade as soon as you stick someone with it its going to get stuck in them and be very hard to pull back out. Grooves keep a seal from forming around the blade so there is no suction causing it to stick. Third that thin blade is going to brake as soon as it hits anything remotely hard. If you want a self defense knife it also needs a fixed blade so it doesnt close on your hand. Js.
Knives this size, especially when specialized for concealment, do not need a full-on handguard. The drop at the heel of the blade is adequate provided that one is maintaining a proper knife grip.
Knives, especially ones this short, has been shown to not require any blood groove. This has been debunked decades ago.
As for the "thinness" of the blade, I actually found it to be rather thick, presumably for durability sake, especially for blades this size. It looks to be, what, a quarter inch thick? Also, I read elsewhere that the metal is D2, so assuming it is of decent quality, that thing is not going to break anytime soon.
@Timothy Fox that drop is adequate right up until it has to stop your hand from slipping down on the blade.
I agree that fullers probably aren't necessary on a knife like this for 2 reasons. 1st being the length like you said and the 2nd being your hand will be laid open and you won't be able to grip it anyway.
Also that's is nowhere near a 1/4 thick. Bravehearts sword might have been that thick, but this letter opener isn't. Also, they can call it whatever kind of steel they want, but the reality of it is its more than likely that Chinese made garbage will break sharpening it.
That's all really good advice hope I never get into a knife fight. Cause all I'm going to have is a gun and a box cutter. But I would like to talk to Melissa about that thrusting part.
"Damn it, we just got that porch re-decked!"
Step 1: understand reverse grip isnt how a knife is held for defense.
It can be, but I agree that understanding how and why is part of the training.
People should learn the proper forward (natural) grip first though, unless you know exactly why it has to be reversed, then you can proceed to train in reverse properly.
That's movie stuff, it's not one or the other since you usually transition, unless it's a karambit and at that point it's for inclose work....
She scares me, but I can’t look away.
Seeesh that blade looking fine
