- I've spent the last few months narrowing down what I believe to be the BEST EDC utility knife for my needs. It has to be easy to carry. The blades have to be easy to change, and functional.
I think I've made my decision on what's the best utility knife. Do you agree with my choice? If not, let me know what your choices are!

Milwaukee Fastback 6 in 1 is my go-to utility knife for EDC.
No one carries a Stanley unless they lay carpet for a living 😂
Carpet layer folks carry a bloody Mary. Trust me it has earned the nickname more than any standard razor knife.
@@westonfx ORCON, Vulcan , Roberts or Stanley ?
I preferred the Orcon myself.
Or snap and hang sheetrock 🤔
Perhaps. But Stanley has one of the best carbide blades I've found.
Works great in my little Gerber.
I'll have to check them out. I currently have a slim Gerber folding utility knife. It's super thin and compact
I have several of the Tyrant 3 knives. Awesome ,fantastic top quality product. Even the packaging is total class act. I actually carry mine in a leather sheath . I think it would be very cool if Tyrant offered nice kydex sheath.
Love my exceed designs razors i have two and a big idea design one is great too
I have the V2 TiRant that I paid like 50 bucks for before they blew up. I love it.
Carrying a TiRant Razor V3 for a few months now. It's become my favorite EDC. Replaceable blades make it great for processing materials that would dull or damage a pocket knife. My other folders are getting jealous of the lack of rotation.
Tirant has new colors now too at a higher price point
I have a Hawk Shortcut and I love it. But I’m a knife guy, so that price point may not be for everyone. I’ve had both knives in this video and definitely prefer the Exceed.
Ive carried the flip out for about 4-5 months now, and its all i need. I have a chums zipper wallet, and the knife is so light weight that sometimes its comfortable and convient to carry in my wallet. And thats not really something you can say about pretty much any knife. The screw wheel would start too loosen up after you flip it a couple dozen times, so i started putting just a tiny dab of locktite when i change the razor and that works perfrctly. 0 blade play, and what i like about the flip out the other one is that you get the full lenght of the razor, and a much thinner profile for the blade holder both which lead to an experience that venuinely feels closer to a pocket knife than a utility blade. The pocket clip not being deep carry is a non issue and is trivial tbh. But one real con id say there is though that isnt talked about here (because i assume you didnt actually use it enough o.o) is that there is actually a break-in period where the ball detent scratches the the base of the blade holder and it feels real nasty until you flip it probably 1000 times until it finishes scratching theough and becomes smooth.
In my opinion and experience the flip out is a utility knife experience unlike the others, and is the only one that genuinly just feels exactly like a pocket knife.
I bought the anazon basics one, cheap and useful:) and with traditional flipper knife design
TIRANT RAZOR V3. maybe i should make a video about it but there's a super simple effective and *likable* way of eliminating any blade up/down play within the blade holder: simply add a tiny thin stripe of tape (e.g. duct tape) in the holder where the razor's edge (apex) would touch the metal. With that stripe in place (and believe me it is not going anywhere!), one can seat/squeeze the razor blade into position, close up the holder, and enjoy the perfect zero blade play. I love that mod! it's reversible and absolutely harmless. super effective, as mentioned.
Ive been having some problems with my razor, just some minor syuff, when i shake the knife something rumbles in it any idess what could it be? Its not the razor blade i held it i place and it still rattles
@@l0sts0ul89 just disassemble the whole thing and look what's inside?
@@leecherlarry tried but everything should be in place I'll check again later but thanks
@@l0sts0ul89similar issues exceed quality is garbage and the customer service is even worse
@@detroitpyro2859 oh I've fixed it by now, I haven't been cleaning it and the lack of lubricant. Hope things get better on your end though.
Dude, i bought the cheap two pack of Walmarts HyperTough mini utility knives and they’re perfect for how I carry. Used to carry a bulkier box cutter but these cheapos ($12 for 2) are awesome!!
Nice. I’ve seen those actually but never used them
The best cheap option is the work pro button lock utility knife
Best working is the Milwaukee fast back
I prefer the first version of arena accessories (got a version of that from aliexpress) but i lost that
Most ergonomic: outdoor edge folding utility knife
Overall i would go tirant razor and if you want a little bit chunkier the big idea designs folding utility knife
I have the fast back with the extra blade pocket. Love it for hard use and I don't worry about it too much because it's cheap. I also like the Gerber prybrid.
dude those work pro button locks are absolutely fantastic. for literally $4-$6 a piece, they're nearly unbeatable for the price/performance/form factor. with my inability to obtain a makerknife, the workpro fills my needs and desires perfectly fine for the price.
the fact that I'm having to look towards a $90 knife to compete with a $5 work pro in terms form factor and ease of use says something.
@@microArc the only issue is QA, good thing it comes in 3 packs for $15
I carry the WorkPro stainless folder that also come in a 3 pack. They are a bit thinner and the shape slips into my pocket easier. I do have the flippers as well and like them better when I bend the belt clip tip down a bit so it doesn’t protrude as far. I’ve tried other small utility knives and none are as easy to use and carry as the WorkPro’s. Figure in the cost difference and it’s a no brainer.
I got both models too, i certainly prefer the Tirant Razor V3, a timeless refined mature model with custom scales!
Does your arena have blade play? The blades that came with it are very loose on mine . What ones do you use?
@@PapaTrump same here, so i sold mine, good riddance
Try an another pack of blades. The blade height varies up to .1” from blade pack to blade pack. I buy 5 packs from different sellers and find the best fitting 50/100 pack and return the others! I have blades with absolute ZERO play, it’s amazing!!
The Milwaukee Fastback is very hard to beat for around $20
It’s nice but it’s not for me as an everyday carry. Great for work though.
I have the Tirant Razor V3 with the mini clip and I love it. The only con is that the screws to take it apart has got blue 242 lock tight on the screws so to get the screws loose you have to heat up the screws to get them loose.
I carry the Tirant V3 every day also. With the shorter deep carry clip. Mine is totally blacked out. There absolutely is NO utility blade that is slimmer and more discreet than the V3. Money well spent, I love the looks and materials and functionality and have zero regrets. Such a cool and handy insanely sharp edge at all times 🙂
@@blairtaylor9552thier customer service is the worst
I have the TiRant V1 and absolutely love it but I think my most carried and favorite utility knife is my Gerber Prybrid. That thing surprised me.
I have the Prybrid X. And it’s a really good Blade except that it needs a pocket clip. I hate just throwing it in my pocket.
@@ChrispyThings The X didn't interest me. But you can put a Spyderco deep carry clip on the big Prybrid. It's a certain clip though. Not the ones that take 3 screws. It's the clip that has the 2 prongs and takes 1 screw in the middle of them. You just need the right size screw and nut and use the lanyard hole to screw it to. Hope I made sense lol.
I carry the tyrant razor V3 for work and have since it came out
It doesn't look like either of them have a place for spare blades.... both look great though. One question Chris, regarding the key holder/organizer, who makes it? I need to get one and relaly like leather ones.
Which key holder do you mean? The leather sheath key holder?
If so it’s made by Battlefield Custom Creations.
@@ChrispyThings that's the one... thanks Chris... always enjoy your reviews..........AND GO!!!!!!
Hyper Tough 2-Piece Quick-Change Folding Utility Knife Set, Model 3414 for $12 is by far they best clipped folding utility knife. I just wish it was a little fancier because as far as functional EDC carry this is it.
Milwaukee fastback ftw
I am more inclined to go with the Arena. There is more blade exposure and the spine of the blade is fully enclosed.
The Arena seams like the knife to carry if you don't want to develop the skill of sharpening a blade.
Carry gets even easier on the Tirant with the short clip.
if it’s all about smaller size then the TPT slide and the olight otacle are smaller than those, and they probably way less too
I have a few otacles and honestly they’re not in the same category.
They’re nice, but these 2 beat it hands down.
And I didn’t say it was all about size.
The main features I was looking for was ease of carry with a pocket clip, and ease of changing the blades.
Been EDCing a TPT Slide since I got it from the Kickstarter 5 years ago. Best ever for me.
i knew the flipout would defeat the flipout!
Milwaukee Fastback Gen2, (not the 6 in 1) is insanely good for the money.
Still trying to figure out how to get the kinematic one .. lookin' like the provoke
Stinger Godzilla. It’s not good
Using the Tirant V3 since release. I have mixed feelings. I don’t think the flip is very satisfying, something about the geometry is off. And I hate the clip, it resembles an unfinished prototype imo. But i can’t find anything better. I wouldn’t get the Flipout just due to the blade holder screw. The Big Idea looks to be the best of everything but $175 is not even close to an option for me, $80 is pushing limits of a utility knife
On the flip out the screw will come lose so the v3 tiRant win in my opinion. I love my TiRant v3😊
I just wish they were a little bigger .... I was cursed with xl hands
What is the model in lower left of thumbnail?
Stinger Godzilla. One of my least favorite utility knives
Before I waste $100 on a utility knife...
Is it going to cut any better than a $5 one from Lowe's?
I guess that would depend on the sharpness of your razor blades.
At that price point... it doesn't make sens to me, might just has well get a real knife.
- This is, unless you don't know how to sharpen.
Disclaimer: When looking for a pocket pry-tool... I did get a Gerber Gear Prybrid (for $20 on sale)
dnd dice tray?
Hawk Shortcut has entered the chat.
Oh hi Hawk. Do you think you can hang?
And with a price tag over 400 bucks im guessing you’d be off the table for many people.
True, it’s not for everyone, but this video was titled “BEST EDC utility knife”.
I really love my TiRant Razer V3. It's the only folding style knife I carry and I definitely use it everyday Its a pricey investment, that's worth it.
Tirant v3 VS chub flipper VS big idea utility knife VS civivi utility
Great comparison. Thanks. Please stop shaking the knives.
What?
blade amount usage is always what i look for , id pick flipout, but i think the razor looks like the angle could be ground or filed steeper
Are they slick ?
Both are stonewashed grade 5 titanium.
I’ve never had issues with them slipping around in my hands, but something like the Dewalt that has some rubber pieces doesn’t slip at all no matter how sweaty my hands get.
"$80 stripped down version“ ouch lol.
Id just buy a flat economy box cutter knife for like $12 and put the rest toward a real knife
Tacknives fatboy utility OTF
545 dollar hawk utility knife
I don’t mean to be negative, your video is great. Just don’t like to see Americans get scammed and fooled
Hell nah. Hard pass. It's sheffield or milwaukee 6 in 1, depending on when you happen to catch me
80 bucks? 😂
Exceed has the absolute worst customer service in the world. They stink. I bought a blade paid and waited forever for them to build it and when i got it, it wasn't even what i paid for. I told them and they only offered me a partial refund. I told them to redo it and ill send this one back and he said id have to wait a few more months. Wtf is wrong with exceed? No way man
😂😂😂😂😂😂80$🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪🤪
What 🤪🤪😂
What? 🤣🤣🤣👍🏻🤦♂️
Anyone who would pay $85 to $100 for a utility knife seriously need to think about how they're spending their money I would rather pay $10 or less and get one that's a little bulky then pay $100 for a smaller one
Looks like I need to seriously sit down and think about how I spend my money.
You sir have changed my way of thinking. I thank you.
You should think about becoming a financial advisor 👍🏻
I was going to make a joke about people spending silly-$$ on IPhones and other status devices...
Then I remembered, the government hasn't balanced a budget in forever... So I guess we live in a monkey-see-monkey-do world...
The Arena is dropshipped. Just another “American” company buying a Chinese product for $40/$50 wholesale and doubling the price without adding value. It’s a great knife but don’t be fooled, Americans are tired of it.
“Americans are tired of it” you say as folks buy drop shipped junk from Amazon every second of every day lmao
You need professional help😂😂😂😂😂
