One thing to add is you need to have fuel system status PID up on the scanner when viewing fuel trims. Need to know if you are in open or closed loop.

nice video, this is proper diagnosis instead of just throwing parts at a car, good to see somebody applying a brain and looking at long and short term fuel trims to account for unmetered air. hope some people learn from this, if you have the knowledge you can pinpoint exactly what is wrong with a car without even getting your hands dirty . thumbs up

so no code on a vacuum activated is pretty common? my mitsu I tell mechanic it feels like egr stuck open shakes when idling and stalls occasionally he tells me there would be a code and tries to and sell me a fuel pump saying its low fuel pressure, w/o testing pressure. Car feels exactly how my cab felt when the dpfe went but I got a code. I would have went after egr first just because the way it feel
thanks, I will first try cleaning egr

    Egr valve is tricky.
    1997 Camry
Engine shakes hard enough to rattle the hood when it's in drive and idling.
I know vaccum leak raises the rpm and
    Open egr lowers the rpm.
The engine also was going below normal idle in park.
    No check engine light.
What I found was the egr valve had enough pressure to seat the pintle but not enough pressure to hold it closed when exhaust pressure was present.
Check my video to see how I tested it. 👍

Great video. I have a question, how do you test for a closed EGR valve? On a diesel common rail engine I have a problem with detonation/know once the car is normal operating temperature and occurs mainly between 1200 and 1900 RPM. When the car is cold, the car runs perfectly. I have heard that a closed EGR valve can cause high cylinder temperature and this can cause knock. Your thoughts would be really appreciated. Thank you.

So I am working with a 2007 chrysler town and country and it is giving me a multiple random mifire error code P0300. The cars engine shakes like made and the engine light is flashing. I think the culprit mist be a stuck open egr valve. I started the engine and while running disconnected the EGR valve and noticed no change in the running engine. I also reconnected it and again no change.
Am I right to assume the egr is stuck open given these observations?

@@kyhomegarage3430your advice is false and original poster is correct. He's misfiring because of a lean fuel mix caused by a stuck open EGR that is allowing too much unmetered air inside.

would this cause any fluid leakage from the exhaust? and the temp light to come on when sitting? I know what I described sounds like a head gasket but the truck runs excellent as long as I'm driving,I put 2 to 3 hours of drive time everyday on the vehicle without issue unless I leave it idle

Do you have any concerns about the LTFT being so different between bank 1 and bank 2? I have M112 engine on a 1999 E320. My bank 1 LTFT is always 1.6% to 3.2% lower than bank 2's--example: bank 1 LTFT 3.9%, bank 2 LTFT 7%. I'm trying to understand why this is so. I have some hypotheses, but do you have any thoughts or concerns about this? Thanks.

Hvala

    • @85Studios

@Mark Foreman, I think you might be thinking of the PCV Valve, The PCV valve usually sits on the Valve Cover and is generally also controlled by Vacuum, When it fails, it can also act like a gigantic Vacuum leak, in other words it will allow unregulated air into the system via the vacuum line attached to it, which will cause the typical codes System too lean Bank 1 Bank 2 on V8 Engines, or System too Lean Po171 and/ or PO174
