If I understood right, Rarran said that new classes (DH and DK) didn't draw much attention and he thinks it's because they exist in WoW already. I personally hard disagree. I have NOT played Demon Hunter yet myself and I like aggro, and I never even bothered unlocking Death Knight prior to a recent update where it seems like it auto unlocked. I feel like having to actually invest in building a deck for a specific class with some unique mechanics is just not enticing for people that're new. I don't have an insane amount of cards, dust, or enough interest to grind out resources to make a deck OR to spend the money. But if I do that with say Deaht Knight which has a unique mechanic, I imagine a lot of cards you want in their deck is not going to transfer to another deck, on top of the issue that they're mechanic might not end up fun. To try and summarize: New decks can be expensive, new classes have had unique mechanics, unique mechanics means less diverse methods to play. As a much newer player I've had no interest in coming in to try a new class knowing they're gonna likely require more investment and be less diverse until the mechanic is grown more. Demon Hunter for example is very aggro, if I want to play control I imagine it's a clown move to to try it with Demon Hunter, while if I said made a Warrior deck I could play most archetypes and a lot of cards will be transferable because things like execute, whirlwind, shield slam, etc, are just good. Half my deck can go into any archetype at times.
WOW Monks are basically classic martial arts archetypes, based on monks from DnD. Monks are already in the game somewhat as Brewmasters and some as rogues that are also concerned with bouncing, so presumably that would be the Monk’s main gimmick
When you were chatting about a new class that isn't in warcraft, its funny how you said "Engineer class", but that is a class that exists already in warcraft
Talking about bringing monk into the game, I always imagined it to be based on combo for their hero powers where they had to rotate between minion to spell to minion to spell kinda like that naga, each rotation adds 1 damage to their hero power (starting at 0 with no cards played). Interesting play style while also being unique enough to keep it apart from the other classes. Run a load of small spell and minions or have minions / spells that reduce their cost if the opposite is played before it etc.
Have some comments about the class discussion. Monk in Warcraft (please excuse me if I've gotten anything wrong, it's been a hot minute since I played) is along the lines of Eastern monks instead of Western monks, so less about isolation leading to contemplation and more about improving the self leading to connection to the universe. What that translates to in WoW is that they do lots of punching/kicking and they're effectively magical, and from what I remember monk could fill any role. I don't know how they're going to translate a class that is supposed to be about the individual improving that can do anything. As to a new class that isn't played in WoW, I dunno about that. I know this isn't about the video but since you're mentionning it, for the 10th years it baffled me that there hasn't been a revamp of the whole game in terms of UI and animations in matches, the main menu and even in game it feels so slow and outdated, you can have the most powerful pc and have the game fully crash because you missclicked on the resize icon, or even completely froze when you press "Play" or any other button for that matter, for me it's desperately needed!
@@budderk1305 Directly yes, but if marketed as a "revamp" or 2.0 or something of the sort with significant changes, articles and word would be spread across previous players that needed that *something* to comeback, it's still something
For the animations and ingame UI, I don't agree at all. That's clearly part of the ADN of Heartstone, this kind of rustic feeling, a bit slow, pretty skeuomorphic.
I don't know that much about WoW but I believe the only two classes not in hearthstone are the Monk and the Evoker class. I think it could be interesting to add a non-wow class but it might be hard to make it truly unique.
I think it would be interesting to create a class for Hearthstone that exists within the warcraft universe, but not in a playable way. For example, in WoW there are some 'Spellbreakers' (which are sort of mage killers) or 'Dark Apothecary' (which are sort of alchemists that use plague), but these classes only exist on NPCs. Wouldn't that be a good way to bridge for people who are interested in warcraft but wouldn't really have a solid idea to expect in terms of playstyle for this fantasy of characters? Would love to hear your thoughts on this :)
5:03 The brief glimpse into the void of Rarran's mind where you realise he thinks Deathknight's and Demon Hunter's are real but monks, which do exist 'are not real'... Actually seems like Monk as a class would have more identity conflict with Rogue than Priest. Combo style gameplay seems to suit Monks the most.
For the ten year anniversary I want them to do a multiverse year expansion. 3 expansions with characters from overwatch, starcraft, and Diablo. We have Diablo kind of in the game for a special event and slight game mode, but that's it.
Necromancer would pretty much just be dk but slightly more warlock because in the warcraft universe there are necromancers and like death knights they raise the dead. However like warlocks they summin a lotta stuff and wear cloth
For necromancer it sucks because it exists in warcraft (Kel'thuzad is a prime example of one) but is not playable and will probably never be due to warlock and deathknight already being playable choices. and for engineer I hope they one day add a tinker class that has that premise
Monk is known for delaying damage, combo, and low cost but spammable healing, I don’t know how that would transfer to hearthstone. Hero power for 2 gives a card combo? Heal 1 + 1 armor? Heal all owned minions by 1?
I think a cool class would be inventor or engineer and have the hero power give you one of those old mech spare parts to hand and have it be like a build up units class.
also i dont think they should add a class that isnt in warcraft but im fine with them adding a class that isnt a playable class in WoW, the issue is most of those possiblities are sort of hybrid classes, like witchdoctor is in essence a shaman priest hybrid, shadowhunter is a rogue priest hybrid etc
I want monk in the game entirely because I'm a monk Stan. I play them in everything. My want for them is to have the stagger mechanic somehow as part of their hero power!
you and eddy are a goated duo as always. You guys were talking about a new class and such, and were talking about monk or maybe even a new class and i think monk would be the best. I think the reason why people werent too hyped about dk, or at least me personally, was the class identity and gameplay is kinda sleeper tbh and the way the class plays in wow is fun but very basic, you know whats gonna happen and it isnt exciting in hs. Monk on the other hand has a lot more room to do cool shit, monk in wow is my personal favorite class to play and the themes could be super cool. for example, the tank spec in wow, brewmaster, would be super cool. its main tanking mechanic isnt gaining armor or healing like warrior or dk, its about being so drunk you feel the pain later so it spread the damage out. could be interesting, like it deals the damage to you over 2 turns. thematically there is so much room to build into for monk and its already there, it makes way more sense to do that than to create soemthing new out of thin air. you already have a giant database of thematic ideas and cool mechanics, and i think monk has maybe some of the coolest things you can do in all of warcraft. keep up the good work :)
Monks are a hybrid class in wow.. they can tank/heal/and dps. I think it would be cool if they did a spin on druid. They get 1 attack and heal 1 damage instead of getting the armor. Edit* not even a minute later Edie said my idea and hated it lolol

I know this isn't about the video but since you're mentionning it, for the 10th years it baffled me that there hasn't been a revamp of the whole game in terms of UI and animations in matches, the main menu and even in game it feels so slow and outdated, you can have the most powerful pc and have the game fully crash because you missclicked on the resize icon, or even completely froze when you press "Play" or any other button for that matter, for me it's desperately needed!
maybe as DLC, cause nothing what you wrote in that paragraph makes money for shareholders, lmao
Small indie game company
@@budderk1305 Directly yes, but if marketed as a "revamp" or 2.0 or something of the sort with significant changes, articles and word would be spread across previous players that needed that *something* to comeback, it's still something
For the animations and ingame UI, I don't agree at all. That's clearly part of the ADN of Heartstone, this kind of rustic feeling, a bit slow, pretty skeuomorphic.
But hey, they can afford to revamp the microtransaction store!!! Awesome!!!
god i hate blizzard
What a fun video!! Thanks rarrarr
fun fact there is already a physical warcraft card game and it wasnt very good
For the ten year anniversary I want them to do a multiverse year expansion.
I think a cool route to go would be to make tavernkeeper into a class, just imagine being able to play as bob
Harth is the tavernkeeper though. Should start with him, with Bob as an alternate skin.
Monk would be a mix of paladin and rogue pretty much, buffing units and combo effects
Heal all owned minions by 1?
the difference in brightness from the different POVs is hurting my head
its so goofy I love it
Reno needs his own class
I think a cool class would be inventor or engineer and have the hero power give you one of those old mech spare parts to hand and have it be like a build up units class.
I wpuld love to see hs in vr for the ten year anniversary but we didnt get it
also i dont think they should add a class that isnt in warcraft but im fine with them adding a class that isnt a playable class in WoW, the issue is most of those possiblities are sort of hybrid classes, like witchdoctor is in essence a shaman priest hybrid, shadowhunter is a rogue priest hybrid etc
Releasing a new class among all games would be excellent for the anniversary.
I want monk in the game entirely because I'm a monk Stan. I play them in everything. My want for them is to have the stagger mechanic somehow as part of their hero power!
A new class called "the innkeeper" would be pretty cool. Or the tavern keeper
i love how eddy talked about a physical card game, there already is it was just shit xD
Hots had some bawler skins.
Really holding onto Twist
can’t wait for legendaries only
Please my friends, do not say "Idk what monks would do but I guess priest" xD.
They should unnerf Renethal, make him an Epic, and require both to be in the deck to get the effect.
Okay, that was epics
Monks a hybrid class and can do tank heal or damage so like who knows what that class would look like in hearth
Monk you just think priest but with a big martial arts element to it :)
you and eddy are a goated duo as always.
For the Monk class think about Kung Fu panda.
monk smacks with his fists bro c'mon.
Monks are a hybrid class in wow.. they can tank/heal/and dps. I think it would be cool if they did a spin on druid. They get 1 attack and heal 1 damage instead of getting the armor.
Edit* not even a minute later Edie said my idea and hated it lolol
NOOOOOOOOOOOO RARRAN LOOKED IT UP
Monk is Rogue/Shaman effectively.
