    in terms of the abusive seargent vs deadly poison thing, it should be deadly poison, because it was not only a cheap spell effect to cycle for miracle rogue, but prior to the nerf on blade flurry, it also gave rogues a pseudo board clear as well as high face dmg output ALONGSIDE the leroy/shadowstep/leroy bullshit, so it's objectively the better card in terms of power level, however abusive was seen in more decks because zoolock was cheap and easy to build so was a lot easier for complete f2p players to make use of.

    I like the concept of the "best card" in classic, but what I think would be more interesting would be to somewhat rank order the classic cards from best to worst using a similar format.
    It'd be more work, but you could make a double or triple elimination bracket. When innervate knocks a card out, like yeti, the next time you'll see yeti it'll go against another card that was eliminated, etc. I don't know how many times a card would need to be eliminated for it to be removed from the pool given the amount of total cards - the juice might not be worth the squeeze.
    Another thing you could do is pseudo-seed the cards. You did random seeding, which makes sense, because in order to seed properly the best card would be "1" and the worst card would be like "458" or whatever. You could do like tier 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 cards. So innervate, wild growth, and preparation would be in tier one and wouldn't likely face off against each other until very late into the gauntlet because tier 4 and 5 cards will be matched with tier 1 and 2 cards early on.
    Again this is probably more work than it's actually worth, but it'd be a cool video to see for the cards from an expansion or maybe even if you rank ordered expansions, iconic legendaries, or some other category in this way.

    Personally think sap beats leeroy, leeroy was TECHNICALLY replaceable, with the 6 mana rocketeer, and sap was arguably the best card in miracle rogue, it single handedly won you games against handlocks giants, and also the slower versions if druid with their big taunts. Sap was irreplaceable.

  • @lequinow
    @lequinow 12 часов назад +2

    Nourish was kinda bad in classic. Taking your whole turn 5 to ramp was too much of a tempo swing and we didn’t have the super swingy 8-9-10 mana cost cards back then to make up for it. It started being more popular when ramping into Ultimate Infestation was a real game plan.
    Fiery War Axe was the best warrior card before the nerf. It’s a top 4 classic card and it should’ve beaten Auctioneer hands on.

    • @DJFracus
      @DJFracus 9 часов назад +1

      Yeah Nourish was cut from the standard lists by the end of Classic, too slow as ramp and worse than Ancient of Lore as draw.

    • @dark_rit
      @dark_rit Час назад

      Auctioneer was pretty messed up at 5 mana once people figured out miracle rogue. Fiery war axe was super messed up though since every single warrior played the card and playing it on turn 2 often resulted in a lopsided game favoring the warrior player. It only stopped getting played once nerfed because a 3 mana 3/2 weapon after powercreep had already started to happen was obviously terrible.
      Agree with nourish being bad. No great ramp targets for it to accelerate into meant it was just a sprint type of card usually that was worse than ancient of lore. Nourish getting nerfed to 6 mana was only because it got great targets to ramp into and if they did such a nerf during classic it would have been a trainwreck of a card.

  • @CR_Castle
    @CR_Castle 10 часов назад +1

    Some people being negative in the comments, i actually hard agree with 99.9% of the picks here
    Notably, you overrate Nourish quite a bit. Nourish is obviously insane, but if we're talking 2013 hearthstone which is what you repeatedly said we were, that card was actually unplayable. It really was too slow and/or the rewards for ramping that hard weren't there yet. Like yeah, you can play a turn 5 or 6 Ragnaros, but that wouldn't end the game or anything.
    If a deck wanted to go big at the time, the place to be was handlock & control warrior. Druid couldn't really do the giants thing and so "ramp druid" usually just tried to play a bunch of good midrange cards a turn or two ahead of schedule after the growth, and refill with Ancient of Lore.
    Nourish really only became good once WOTOG came out and the high mana cost cards started getting pushed. Once Druid had Yogg (and the other similarly rewarding high mana cost cards from that point onwards) Nourish really became the absolutely disgusting card it was always destined to be.
    Other than that, it's hard to argue with these choices if you were actually around at the time. People need to put some respect on timber wolf fr

  • @suitwo
    @suitwo 20 часов назад

    I'd probably go with one of those 2 as well. Remember playing before Naxx and the decks which were by far the least fun to play against were Druid as they always played the same, the deck in itself was probably the only one around that time that felt you never had a dead turn which you'd use your hero power, Warlock could get away with this because of how good theirs is but Druid was always very good against them and giving them a turn to get out something like Ysera or Rag for free without being able to answer it was often enough to seal the game for you.
    For that reason I would argue Wild Growth over Innervate because I feel like the immediate power of Innervate wasn't as impactful as playing everything one turn earlier. For example turn 1 yeti you'd use 3 of your 4 starting cards to do that, so you'd probably be using your hero power the next few turns, making those turns weaker unless you drew the cheaper stuff. Turn 1 Wild Growth only uses 2 cards so lets you have that 1 extra while having 1 extra mana to potentially play that or any of the other cards you draw, and because Druid would use so many 4 mana cards like Azure Drake (pre nerf), Yeti, Keeper, Senjin and Swipe there's a good chance that by then you'd drawn at least one of them so come turn 3 the Wild Growth Druid has caught up with the Innervate Druid while also being 1 card up with 1 more mana.
    Mid game Innervate is probably better because immediate impact could be much better such as a turn 4 Cairne or Sylvanas or turn 7 Ysera (5 if you drew 2) and obviously late game Wild Growth for the card draw but for me Wild Growth was what better defined Druid early on.

    Thank you Rarran, it was a very entertaining video.
    I agree with the overall winner, but I think you underrated Brawl, IMO its better than Wild Growth. I know its hard to compare a board clear to a ramping card, but having Brawl when you needed it in warrior was more important than having Wild Growth on 2 in druid.
    Even if you didnt draw Brawl at all, the fact that it existed made your opponents play around it, so IMO it was a top 5, maybe top 3 card in classic.

      My first thought was more like Sylvannas. She was in most decks, if I remember right.
      Sure, wild growth and innervate were auto-includes, but IMO class cards lose points due to being less versatile.

      @@KuroroSama42 Sylvannas is a cool card but in terms of sheer power it is miles away from innvervate

    I think the logic of "every class would run it if it was neutral" blinds you a bit on these picks, at the end of the day the cards weren't neutral so a conversation like leeroy vs. innervate you have to compare innervate within the box of druid. The reality is Leeroy was far more influential due to the fact it was a neutral.

    • @dark_rit
      @dark_rit 56 минут назад

      It would be more interesting if it was just best neutral and best class card. There innervate would be a clear contender for top class card, but I agree with leeroy being the most dominant since 4 mana leeroy in the context of miracle rogue was the most powerful card.

  • @Riokaii
    @Riokaii 15 часов назад

    Its Ice block, ignoring that secrets all cost the same mana, that card would be played if it costed 6 mana.

    Exquisite Rage Bait post Mr .Rarran

  • @KaitlynBurnellMath
    @KaitlynBurnellMath 12 часов назад

    So...when they brought back classic mode, very consistently miracle rogue was just the best deck in the game according to VS--had no losing matchups. So...pretty sure one of the miracle rogue cards should have won. Leeroy perhaps? First card from that deck that got nerfed. I would also accept Gadgetzan Auctioneer (second card from that deck that got nerfed, the best card draw in the format, and more important to the deck than Leeroy).
    Innervate and wild growth were broken later down the road from classic--both got nerfed 3-4 years later after Druid got a draw 5 (Ultimate Infestation), but they weren't outrageous in classic because if you drew too many innervates and wild growths, your hand was just empty. There was just so, so little card draw in classic.

    I think innervate and wild growth existing made you overrate the other druid cards. But i think you got down to the right top 8 at least and i think the only change id make in top 8 is prep over wild growth.

    I'm not sure this video is 'what cards are the best' as much as it is 'what cards were in the best decks'? A lot of overlap between the two, but some of these cards were undervalued in the video because other cards sucked too much to make a competitive deck.

    0:36 hex if we count lifespan or classic and circle if we take the amount of times it peaked to insane levels into account has its stupid what kind of decks used it to extreme effects
    crazed alchemist is one of the most fun cards in old HS before the rotation wish we got more cool 0 atk minions with it in standard maybe reworking it to a 1 mana 1/1 or something
    voodoo was use a bit in warlock has heal was very hard to come by for them
    SHADOWFLAME! oh bring me back dude!
    elune like voodoo was played in lower MMR has it was fine in control style warlock to heal when few cards let you (not good to expensive but was tried a bit)
    bloodmage was my first gold legendary and still is one of my favourite cards i almost out include in all decks that have spells that want spell damage (but am bias...)

    Zoo was not the best classic deck miracle rogue was. Combo druid also arguably was sleeper op but wasn't realized at the time but if you played classic mode when it rereleased combi druid was the dominate deck. Zoo warlock was fine but it wasn't tier 1 the top three decks were aggro hunter miracle rogue and freeze mage, with control warrior, zoo, and handlock close behind. Shaman and priest could catch you off guard if you werent prepared though. Played a ton of classic both in 2014 and when it rereleased. Decent list but i do think your memory of the meta is a little fuzzy
