    I would like to see more coverage on data-center networking, it’s amazing and complex. Just to give you a side note, we are currently implementing a spine-leaf topology running bgp, underlays and overlays, etc.

    • @MegaFemer
      @MegaFemer 3 года назад +6

      We actually do connect two leaf nodes together using MLAG (Arista). However, only two per (pod). So they are in pairs. We currently use superspine -> spine -> leaf. And we have protocol switches within the racks the connect to the leafs. From the leafs up it’s all L3. And we use ECMP for the load balancing. Man, it be nice to chat with you about this sometime. But for now, hope the next video goes over ASNs lol.

    North south traffic from client to internet to server
    East West traffic between servers because of virtualization
    Leaf switch - spine switch on top
    Spine-leaf design full mesh (clos design)
    Underlay network, there is an overlay network for more compelxity!
    Every leaf is connected to every spine. L3 between these spine leaf swtiches in order to avoid spanning tree loop prevention that occurs at L2
    You only need 2 hops which blocks redundant routes
    Rent racks in a data center and put your own servers and swtiches
    Have your own corporate network.
    Buy processing power and storage in the cloud

    Great video. I have worked in a datacenter and never knew this. It all comes together now. They would use the old network design en forget about redundant power. A switch would fail and so would the whole rack or racks. On hot summer days the hvac system could not cool enough en drives in raid arrays would fail by the hour because of the heat. Vps is the way to go and if you could ditribute them across different services and locations you have no worries. Not to mention server maintanance. Keep up the good job.

So I made my own rack NOT containing a load balancer or software till I now understand why this needs to be part of the network. So much to learn and remember with the fact that I have to forget about half of what I was taught in the past. Soon as cloud computing came out, things were just beginning to change faster and quicker. It still made it much cheaper to buy the old or replaced hardware. I been on a tour of a Microsoft data center while studying for CCNA at Job Corps. It was a awesome visit. Ya there was a server room with lots of servers but I think most of the data center space was battery backup and cooling.
    I am not sure how the job roles are but it did seem as if the network admins will need to have knowledge of the building maintenance like how the lead acid backup works and working with the battery chemicals. And the cooling. It seemed different than the "sit at the computer doing help tickets for the campus". I don't think it's a requirement to have knowledge of the building maintenance because they mentioned getting Microsoft server certifications will help than just having only the CCNA.

    Will you touch on the differences between the OS's of spine and leaf or even better, a Spline Network for normal size companies?
