    Personally I like the 5 logo, it's honesty, good design and quality with reasonable price point, it shows that you can have a great watch that looks stylish and has great reliability and features for under $100 which I think there's no shame in showing.

    I so completely agree about having more than one size of each model. In fact, some day, (not likely soon, but some day), I hope watch manufactures will understand that watches are like shoes or shirts, and should be made in a variety of sizes so they fit the people that wear them.
    Great review! I enjoyed it very much.

      They have thought about it. That’s why you can adjust the bracelets and the straps have several holes. Other than that, not the same.

    This is one of the most thoughtful watch videos I've watched! I don't think anyone could do a better SNX111 video. Also, that watch looks amazing. Even at $130 I can't believe they can make such a beautiful watch.

    Perhaps better visually and for the general thickness.

    What an utterly superb, detailed and considered review. Excellent close up photography. I agree that lower end horological pieces represent great value as well as aesthetic refinement that grotesque and ostentatious high end pieces lack. Hats off to the Japanese. Thank you.

    Your Review is excellent. The problem is that now that yo have wet my taste buds for this watch, I can't find it anywhere! I was happier when I did not know it existed! Now that I know about it, I can't sleep until I can find one! Your close up camera work really shows the details of your review. I guess I will buy a SNK789K1 for now as it is the closest to thee SNX111.

    You have to admire Seiko for what they have achieved watches at all price levels and in all different styles ie. Diver/dress/chronograph etc, with in house movements. The Seiko 5 is a great way to enter mechanical watches or just to even stay with just this watch if looked after it could last you a life time, yes ok the bracelet is not great just replace with a nice strap of your choice, but Seiko has a structure you get a certain level of watch for the price and if want better then you move up to what ever level and price point that suits you. There is no other watch company that's offers what Seiko offer.

    i think the snkl23 is the best seiko 5 dress watch. freakin love mine !!! TGV and hodinkee have a good review of it too. the sharp hands give it a grand seiko or sarb033 look. Put it on an expensive leather band and damn its a beauty !

      +Jaden Abed it sure is pretty, and the case is a work of art, especially at that price point!
      The SNKL21 that I show in the video is the same just with a silver dial.

    Really thorough and solid reviews! Love the details you point out in the design of the watch. Very few people look close enough to understand the beauty of the painted top face of the applied indices. I have a 1970's vintage Seiko Business-A, and it has a similar design. It's one of my favorite watches despite it being one of the lowest cost watches I have.
    You're a cut above and beyond many other popular watch channels. Keep up the great work and looking forward to more!

    A pretty watch indeed, very much impressed by the amount of background you amassed. I'm an admirer of this particular movement, and you are spot on with the size issue. I have a similar piece (SNXS79K) which I purchased only a few weeks ago. It displays a certain quality of finish when inspecting from close-up. Originally, I disliked datewheels having contrasting colours to the dial itself, but on my timepiece, it's not bad at all. This video is quality and instrumental spreading the word about the beauty of Seiko 5s.

    I really don't care how the wide the diameter of my watch, the really important number to me is the lug to lug distance. I have a SBBN tuna, which is 47~48mm across, That is instantly too big for most people, but however, the watch designed in a way that it is basically a circle with the lug to lug of 47~48mm as well. So even though it is big, but my below average 17cm wrist can still handle the tuna.

    Cant find this watch anywhere, its been too long since release, so I bought snkk87k1 which is the closest thing to this one and is already not easy to find with official seller too. However it doesnt have that raised Seiko logo, great little detail that I love so much.

    I noticed the same effect, you start pointing out @21:30 mark, on my Orient Mako XL. When I was wearing it for just 3-4 days per week, time accuracy was + 14 seconds/day. Now that I wear that watch everyday (it may rest one day/week+, the watch is only + 3 seconds/day.

    Very nice and comprehensive review on a great watch! That dial reminds me of the GS snowflake, not exactly but it reminds me of it. That's an incredible story about how the tariff and fees cost more than the watch itself! But fortunately you finally acquired the watch you wanted. The 37.5 wears nicely on you. I would have liked to see a picture with the leather strap you bought, maybe a video on that in the future? Congrats!
    The closeups look fantastic without any glare. Did you use a filter?
    Thanks for the mention at the end!

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  7 лет назад +1

      +whatsonthewrist thanks for the kind words.
      The dial reminded me of the Snowflake as well but I decided not to mention it as I was not sure I was delusional :) I'm glad it turns out I am not, as you see it too.
      I don't use filters, but try controlling the reflections and glare with strategically positioned obstacles for the light, and these include everything from blankets and t shirts to kitchen utensils :)
      And your video was discussing exactly the point I was trying to make, plus you already mentioned me in so many videos it was about time I repayed the favor :)

    • @whatsonthewrist
      @whatsonthewrist 7 лет назад

      Yes, we use whatever it takes to get the shot--utensils, etc. Funny and true.

    Gorgeous watch, hard to find. I bought mine as a substitute for my Datejust and fitted it with a 29mm AR sapphire, but because of the day, its more useful and got more wrist time than the Rollie! I was able to play around with the 7s26 movement regulator and got it down to +/- 3 seconds per day.

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  7 лет назад +1

      +Hoop oh wow that's some good regulating job, I usually mess mine up when I try it myself 😃
      Luckily I was extremely lucky with this one as it still keeps time within a second a day, and yes it is still 90% of the time on my wrist.
      The Datejust is a beauty and I like the 36mm the best, but way out of my price range, and if I had one I would be afraid to wear it every day not to damage it

      @jacc88888 6 лет назад

      Tzu Babu Yes - I have both an orient Star Classic and a seiko 5 pilot’s watch. I love both of them. The OS is a luxury watch that cost £220 new and has remarkably consistent accuracy. The Seiko cost me £51 new and is a brilliant little automatic that is also pretty accurate though not quite as precise as the OS. I don’t know much about the Citizen Eagle 7 series, only that used to be a rival to the Seiko 5s.

    • @brothacaim
      @brothacaim 6 лет назад

      yeah..thats what i thought...orient crystal,seiko 5 and citizen eagle 7 all in the same category...i believe the new swatches sistem51 are the new rivals in affordable automatics..their advantage might be the their movement,design and swiss pedigree,and their low price for what we are used to see in swiss brands

      Yes, however the bracelet for my 7009-3040 used U-shaped pins which are nearly impossible to find and after 35 years, they do start to loosen up so replacements might be needed as they are just friction fitted. Now, more modern Seikos tend to have pin and collar pins and it is easy to find sets of assorted pin and collar pins but just try finding U-shaped pins.

    Just a quick tip. When you're looking for specific models, search the stores from Europe, outside your country, as I'm sure that you know all of the stores in your country. Search with google translate or something go "maker+country". At least in Romania, we have some stores with some models that are in stock for years, as there aren't big stores, they don't pop easily in searches, and they don't have much flow, so you can sometimes find discontinued items at the original price.

    There are so many incredible looking Seiko 5. Here are 5 i like best in my collection;
    1. 6139 7010 this the rarest among the 6139. Used by Japanese Air Force.
    2. 5126 6030 Rally Diver
    3. 7619 7060 Sportsmatic the crown bezel is internal and still sparkle like new zaratsu polish
    4. 7619 9060 with diver's indices
    5. 6119 8410 comes with one of the best looking bracelet i have seen. 24mm lug width taper to 16mm. Where to find these things nowadays?

    Glad you mentioned about they will produce size that sells. I drives me crazy when people rant on Invicta over their Big watch sizes. Its what millennials & rapper want to be, $ ganster want to be, buy. Of course a consumer company will meet the demand. I like you would like smaller sizes, but until the trendy people make it happen, we will be in a minority. Hey, bought a Invicta pro diver - has Seiko nh35 movement, wr 200 m, handwinding, hacking, date, ss naterial, for $70.00 us new. Put on mesh & love it.

      Orient CEV0J003W. Originally, I thought the silver dial with silver hands would be difficult to read, but actually it isn't at all. Mine was very accurate out of the box and it quickly became my daily wearer. It doesn't have hacking or hand winding, but I don't miss those features. I'm able to regulate the time by changing the resting position at night. With the crown pointing up it loses a couple of seconds and the dial up it gains a couple of seconds. I haven't had to reset the time in over 5 months!

      Right, I also wrote this today to someone that didn't understand bracelets like these:
      "They're not machine assembled, they don't assemble mechanical watches movements that way, and not any less hand assembled than any ROLEX. Mechanical watches, guitars, violins are all hand made. And you got a nice bracelet with it, it's a folded link bracelet, and that in itself took a hole factory of specialized machines to make, and besides that all these people that think that new Rolex or Omega clasps are machined wholecloth from bar-stock don't understand anything about machine stamping at all, because they too are stamped, but from a heavier sheet and in most cases aren't very much stronger or longer lasting at all over the simple ones like these! The "watch community" is so hypnotized by asshole Swiss-O-Philes and hype!"

    • @tomasinacovell4293
      @tomasinacovell4293 7 лет назад

      Also, some of the most sought after vintage bracelets were all folded link types from the same family of machine processes. Take "NSA" bracelets for example, they can easily go for five hundred to a thousand times what they originally were worth.

      I remember watching three pictures of this watch in a thread about two years ago. Somebody mentioned its model number. Since that day, I was hunting this watch. It appeared a few times at eBay for about $125. At Amazon, also for $125.
      I like this watch for the same reasons that you mentioned:
      1. Black lining on its hands. Completely metal hands look bad under low light conditions in black dial and under heavily lit environment on white dial. The black lining is just the perfect solution.
      2. I love its square lume dots. Rarity. I've seen many Seiko 5 watches where half of the round lume dot is covered by the indices.
      3. It has metal indices not painted indices.
      4. I like its squared hands which are a mix of painted and complete metal surface.
      5. It has lume. Many costly dress watches have no lume at all.
      6. The crown is at the 3 o'clock position, not 4.
      There are many more reasons. It's a timeless timepiece. It'll never go out of style.

    • @WatchGeek
      @WatchGeek  7 лет назад +1

      +Manish Sahay you should definitely hunt one down, as I can see you are very passionate about it, and it seems to tick all the boxes that are important to you

      I bookmarked a Rakuten page about this watch a couple of days before your video was uploaded. I didn't order it then for some reasons. But, I ordered it a few days ago. It arrived yesterday - a gorgeous watch, truly.
      There are a few things that I noticed about this watch only after watching your video - the bevel on the indices, some details on the case and slightly raised applied logo.
      My SKX007 had a case of balance spring. It was gaining 5 minutes in one hour when it arrived. Some threads on WUS forums mentioned the same solution that you performed in your video. I did the same, and the watch started gaining only 5 seconds per hour, and soon settled down to +15 to +25s/day.
      Now, it's time to look for a good-looking black leather watch strap for my SNX111 :)
