  • How a Canadian innovation sparked global democratic change, and what lies ahead
Every day, we hear about the threats facing democracy in Canada and around the world. However, these challenges are being met with innovative practices that are transforming the role of citizens in democratic decision-making. This energizing event celebrates the 20th anniversary of the B.C. Citizens' Assembly on Electoral Reform, which sparked what the OECD has described as a "deliberative wave" of hundreds of deliberative processes around the world that are engaging everyday people in designing solutions for our biggest societal and policy challenges.
In conjunction with the Democracy R&D Conference being held in Vancouver on September 19 and 20, Simon Fraser University's Morris J. Wosk Centre For Dialogue and MASS LBP are hosting a public dialogue featuring a conversation with engaging leaders in the field of deliberative democracy (Geoff Plant, Andrea Reimer and Peter MacLeod) and a dialogue amongst members of current and recent Citizens’ Assemblies in BC.
Join us to learn about how deliberative processes can strengthen public voice to bridge the gaps in our current democratic systems, and to consider what opportunities lie ahead for deliberation in Canada.
Date & Time: Wednesday, September 18 at 6:30pm
Location: Morris J. Wosk Centre for Dialogue (580 West Hastings Street, Vancouver)
