I use a OTF double action on the farm. It’s a great tool in those situations when you only have one hand available. You deploy the blade cut the twine retract the blade. Much safer than dealing with closing side folders of any style.
in a farm would a fixed blade not be better? theyre pretty one handed not gonna break even from the abuse that id imagine it goes through and usually cheaper
ASDFGidji First, I use the 30 dollar Lightning. Hasn’t failed me yet and if I lose it not a great loss. Fixed blades have there place but I enjoy the fact the OTF blade retracts and I can’t cut myself. I think it’s a great tool within its limitations.
Luckily Texas revised their knife laws in 2017. The few restrictions we do have are odd but whatever type restrictions. There are no restrictions on action types but there are age restrictions, and restricted locations for blades over 5.5". Also any business that posts signs prohibiting restricted knives is legally binding as long as the posted sign follows several very strict guidelines.
Carried a little Kershaw Scallion for years. Love the little assist in opening. Can't see myself carrying an otf for edc or self defense. Great video Nick.
Nick, hey you know about small machine screws? Can you please tell me what size body screws were used on the old school 2002 Microtech Ultratech knives? I know they use a T5 torx wrench but I can't order any because I just dont know the screw measurements. Thanks for your time. Good upload!
Apparently Nick lives in my backyard, I knew Michigan was legalizing automatic knives soon, but I didn't know that they already did it! I gotta go get myself one of those now, I've always wanted one.
Be sure to check your county and city laws too. They can impose their own laws. I know there are some states that have pretty liberal knife laws but certain cities, and villages won't allow you to have any kind of knife pretty much. Then you have safe zone areas, government buildings and private property rules. Just because an automatic might be legal where you are at your workplace could potentially fire you for having one. I live in Adrian in Lenawee county and I asked the sheriff about it and he said they honestly don't care much as long as you don't threaten anyone or use it in a crime. You also can't be a convicted felon or have a history of domestic abuse.
There are also classic Stilettos and Mikov auto with in-handle spring, which just pushes the blade out of side of handle and then blade rotates and locks bu inertia. Still button-type but different construction. I have examples of those just for collection, don't recommend to carry those.
Nick I have been following you and tour suggestions in the last years. You would love a utx 70. I know the screws,I know you cannot retract if the Blade Is dirty. But you would love It.
I know you aren't a MT fan due to the hardware. But, you should try the MT Socom Elite (manual). It has torx and is really overbuilt. The pivot is a T20, huge liner lock and all around quality construction. Like you, I'm not a big knife guy but it's so good I've already bought two. The high grade aluminum makes it light for the size and it carries really well.
Mate you really need to review ballistic knife in some point.. After that someday plasma knife.. That one still too small for real knife use but there is a market so someday..
Another stupid question: for example, I like my Protek Magic knife a lot. Compact, simple blade, and so on. But it is automatic, and I cannot carry it in MA. If I take the spring out, and make it like "gravity" knife, will it become "legal"? Of cause I wont do that, just for my curiosity.... anybody has this experience?
I will never get a single action auto. I have a double action otf and I was debating on getting a halo 5 but if it has no safety like my ultratech then no way will I get it
My father has an old double action which I think was from my grandfather. There's a lot of blade play, the little cap of the pusher disconnected so my father put in a wooden one, and the blade itself isn't very sharp and doesn't have a nice pointy end, but it's still really fun to just push it out and the push it in, and because it is really old it doesn't look tacticool.
8:57 I'm not completely sure about the single action otf knives would Kill someone if you were to press it against someone's neck, yes it would hurt and stick in a good ways possibly cause a far amount of bleeding, I'm not a doctor or a person who knows a lot about the human body but I have a similar knife to the single action otf on your table and it went off into my left hand and it didn't become fully deployed into my hand it did go through the other side a little but nothing to major
Depends on which one you own. Some of the higher end ones with heavy springs will for sure. It is what they were designed to do. I have seen some go through a plywood sheet before.
Nick can I call you as my lawyer if I get caught for carrying a switchblade? You seem to know stuff related to automatics and can speak exceptionally fluently.
If you find yourself in that situation you for sure want a defense lawyer that specializes in that sort of thing. I would look for someone that is suggested by concealed carry organizations. They often have list of lawyers that specialize in that kind of stuff. And in most states it isn't going to matter what the laws are or what kind of knife you are carrying. If you threaten someone with it or admit to carrying it as a weapon it is probably going to be felony no matter what. Remember if anyone ever asks you your knife is a tool and you use it for opening boxes and what not. NEVER admit to having it as a weapon. That will get you in trouble in almost every state.
I will second that. Some of the internet sites can give you a general guideline but they will mostly just list the laws and some can be a bit vague and hard to understand. A defense attorney will be able to tell you what might actually happen if it goes to court. I would also suggest talking with your local police and what their views are on it. Just because something is legal or not doesn't always play a part in if you will get arrested or not. It could be legal and you might still get arrested. Or it might not be legal and they might not care enough to arrest you for it if there are no other charges and you don't have a record. Getting arrested, getting prosecuted and getting convicted are three separate things.
In the state of Washington, I can legally carry a Ruger 454 Casull tucked in my shorts. A micro microtech puts me in jail... because it's too dangerous.
While these type of knives are most definitely fun to fidget with around the house, at no point would I ever carry one even though they are totally legal where I live. The main reason is most every person I know that has carried them (if they're honest) has had them deploy in the pocket or when trying to get out of the pocket. This includes the diehard fans that I personally witnessed on construction sites having them deploy in-pocket, but later bragging to others it never happens. So it goes, but just not something I'm willing to chance while carrying a pocketknife.
Nick you can't kill someone with a single action knife by holding it up to someone and deploying it it may hurt but it's not that powerful it's not going to go through skin and bone paper yeah not a person I know I'm nit picking just my opinion great video though
That is why some places are trying to outlaw them. The knife companies found a loop hole in the laws and they want to close it. They basically feel anything that can be opened quickly or with one hand should be illegal because for some reason that makes it more deadly lol.
Pa you can own but not carry auto knife. Walmart and other store carry assisted knives. I called local sheriff to see after reading case of police arresting people for carrying assisted knives. That said technically assisted knives are under auto but he said he hasn't heard of any case of them arresting you for just that. Also called state police but that didn't know shit.
Knife laws make ZERO. An auto is no more deadly than a fixed blade. Also, it’s a fact if you’re wanting to kill someone your common 6 inch kitchen knife is the best option. Slim & long enough to fit between ribs etc.
In my state, I can get a permit to carry a concealed firearm, but despite being entrusted to carry a concealed firearm, I still can't carry some types of knives. Knife laws often do not make sense!
All this crazyness, so many knife laws complicating things. They're wasting their time whining about how a knife opens. Who cares? A fixed blade deploys faster than any folder/auto ever could. It's always ready... Tbh I have never been a fan of knife laws in general. If I had it my way, you'd be free to carry a damned sword if you wanted to, anywhere. I hear Texas allows that at least. It's something...
If you have questions about knife laws, should always consult a legal professional rather than a collective of random jackasses on the internet. And if you're not sure if autos are legal in your area, just don't. There are a lot of great non automatic knives out there and it's not worth ending up in jail for a novelty.
I would add that even if they ARE legal in your state I would still ask your local law enforcement to see what they say. There might be a city code banning them and just because something might be legal doesn't mean you won't get arrested for it. It just means you might not get convicted if you have a decent lawyer. But you might spend a few days in jail and waste some money trying to figure it out.
The laws are absolute bs for autos. And you're right, they're vague as hell.
Even if they arent illigal that omg he has a kniiiiiifeeeee is really annoying
I think that´s on purpose. Gives cops leeway to either side depending on how much they like or dislike you.
not in Texas

Just bought my first otf (microtech) … stoked
Thanks for the legal advice mate.

We need to talk to Congress and tell them that we demand a Zhunter automatic.
Carried a little Kershaw Scallion for years. Love the little assist in opening. Can't see myself carrying an otf for edc or self defense. Great video Nick.
Jimmy Berglind Kershaw makes great addicted knives for sure man
Try living in MA. Knifelaws are super convoluted and vary wildly town to town.
Leave MA and move to NH. Premeption laws and any knife allowed. No confusion!
@@mdamdtraveldoc7183 Thanks for the referral....but NH is full...lol
Maybe someday the fedial supreme court will realize a common kitchen knife is deadlier then any auto knife will ever be.
But springs in knives are scary.

Dang Nick, living in Michigan eh? How long have you been meaning to put out this video? Great stuff as always!
This one fell behind the virtual desk.

Yeah I came here looking for The Shabazz's review of the Micreotech SOCOM manual. Let's go Nick! I can send you mine...
I'm just getting into knives so thank you for the video can you please do a video on button locks knives
Really awesome video,
Great video as always Nick very informative thanks brother
What happened to the ZT 0055 Review?
How about the CRKT Ignitor?

Ever get your hands on a microtech? Curious your take on one.

NO. Do not trust a jackass on RUclips for legal advice! Or, frankly, for anything.
@@NickShabazz Well thanks... Guess I'll go to jail then.
@@NickShabazz but I mean youre a well spoken jackass. Just make up some bullshit thats what lawyers do mostly right?

Nick, great video. I thought you moved to San Diego.... Now Michigan?
This video's an antique!
Thanks for clarifying!!!
Great info !
These are flat out illegal in Canada which is a bummer. At least we don’t have any size restrictions.
I wonder where in Michigan you live in. I live in Constantine.
Most double action autos will bounce off of your skin when deployed as a safeguard. I do it all the time with my microtech
I one some drawing from birdshot iv a free knife and just found out to today it's a kizer flashbang
Good vid, but dual action is different from double action. The otf is double action and something like a diskin fire is dual action.
Not much point in me watching this really. I'm in the UK where we're not allowed to have long finger-nails..!!!!
Reploy deliably.😁
Anyone know ct knife laws?
Yes, your local lawyer. Do not trust anybody on the internet to interpret local statutes for you.

i havent heard anyone use "protooberance" for a while. thanks, Nick!
The fastest deploying knife is a fixed blade. Legal in every kitchen everywhere and the choice murder weapon of Michael Myers.
You don't really think a Halo could be used to kill someone like that, right?
Some flippers are much faster than auto’s, specially on ball bearings. I don’t get why auto’s are such a taboo.

Consider doing a video without your Nick character voice. I expect it will be less entertaining but just as informative.
I don't know if it would really be as informative though. Entertainment is information, after all
Entertainment is more about delivery. My point is that Nick's content, because of its quality, would be entertaining enough.
This is Nick Shabazz, he is who he is, why would he stop being who he's always been?
Benchmade Satan....got it. Thanks Nick.
