      John Rice I did receive some positive news. My dealership Agreed to replace one of the shocks. Don’t ask me why only one. But one is better than nothing. Currently on back order. It’s going to take over a week to get. Now if I can only get Chevrolet to watch this video so they can replace the other one.

      @@TrailAdventuresTV I wish they would listen more to customers. I am frustrated too because I work for General Motors on the assembly line in Texas. I believe they need to offer more ways for feedback on their vehicles. I still believe that I get 10% off on GM parts but don't know on these. 😠.

    Bought a brand new 2021 ZR2, 3 weeks ago. Front right shock starting clunking after 200 miles. It had 8 miles on it when I test drove it. Just got it back from the dealer today and had the shock replaced. $1,341 for the shop to do it, warrantied of course. 200 miles..........it wasn't leaking, but it was presenting a low speed clunking when encountering bumps, turns, and pulling/backing into the driveway.

    Had one shock start leaking at 7k miles. Now at 15k and waiting for another replacement shock (on backorder). Still under warranty, so I'll push that as far as I can, but will likely move to King (or something else if available) once the warranty has expired. Supposedly, GM now has a tech bulletin on the Multimatic DSSVs about leaks... hopefully they will fix the issue and not just skirt around.

      Sorry to hear about your leaky shocks. Thank God you are still under warranty. After my ZR two ran out of warranty. And I was starting to have troubles with the shocks. Instead of going with aftermarket shocks I decided to move the truck down the road. Was able to get 32,000 out of it. I bought it used for 34,000. So I didn’t do too bad.

    So if I'm hearing you right. DSSV shocks should be good for stock ride height and tires, but no so reliable for lift kits and or bigger tires?

    • @TrailAdventuresTV

      Stock ride height more specifically. Tires do play a secondary role.

  • @scarsman
    @scarsman 4 года назад +2

    One thing should be clarified about your comments on the position sensitive damping and "lift". You are correct in that if you use the Eibach lift springs, or much of a level spacer, then yes, you are changing the ride height position of the shock in the front. But if you actually lift you truck, as opposed to just leveling, then you are using the BDS suspension lift, since that is the only one out there. And that lift retains the stock ride position of the shock, so will have no effect on the ride height damping.
    My thought on your observation of less damping with the non-stock tires, is that it is not less damping you are feeling, but the effect of a much stiffer tire than the stock tires. The stock tires are extremely soft, mushy tires, and pretty much any actual truck tire you put on is going to be either a D or E rated tire, resulting in a much stiffer tire, and affect the ride.
    On the leaking shocks, I agree, that is complete crap. My RR started leaking on a 6700 mile road trip from WA to AK and back, including the Dalton Hwy to Prudhoe Bay. I was 2700 miles over the warranty when I got home and found it was leaking. From the color of the dirt caked onto the oil, I know it was leaking before 36,000, but GM denied warranty. The fact that the current part number for the shocks is the third one there has been, and the seals on the new shocks are visibly different tells you GM is fully aware there is a design issue with the shocks, but still refuse to stand behind their product. I love my ZR2, but GM really pi$$ed me off on this one.

    Sucks that you've had to replace two already, but thanks for passing the info along. Im running a Winch and CBI half bumper on my Gas v6 zr2 and you could tell it was sagging. I was going to do the Diesel springs to level out the truck but decided to "spend once cry once" and purchased Kings OE series 600lb springs with compression adjuster. Turns out I ended up crying and losing sleep plenty of nights, took 5 month to get them. The truck is now leveled with out messing with any pre load. Thinking about doing an add a leaf and upper control arms now. Still have to take the truck to an alignment shop so I can really start testing.

      @mquez509 3 года назад +1

      @@TrailAdventuresTV Small 6 hour road trip and the kings handle great at speed and almost as good as when the truck was stock. Multimatics are honestly so good with a stock truck and would not replace unless you are adding extra weight or building a pre runner. Also the reliability of the multimatics is sketch. The Kings with the 600lb springs up front made for a better ride height and cant even tell the weight is there like before, so much sag. Some guys on the zr2Zone forum say the springs are too stiff off road. They come with 650lb springs standard if not specified. Even with Diesel trucks with Bumpers and Winch some have gone down to 550lb springs. I think those guys are expecting too much from an OE replacement shock and looks like they are building pre runners IDK. For me the Kings with 600lb springs handle the weight much better then the stock Multimatics springs. Was going to do an Eibach spring level swap but wanted a more reliable shock so just went Kings.

    I would point out that you didn't appear to use Chevy's leveling kit which specifies it maintains the stock DSSV position. I've got 50k on mine and they've driven over some reasonably rough terrain. I'm aware that some are reporting leaks and that is unfortunate. I drove on roads at speeds I never would have in my Jeep but I wasn't pretending that I was in the Dakar rally and to me it felt much smoother. The aftermarket has come along now that there are 4 model years of ZR2s - King makes a bolt on replacement and if I choose to go nuts that's where I will go.

      @jakegroenig5820 I drove a 4x4 Colorado yesterday. I currently own a 2019 Canyon All Terrain. It's a nice-looking truck with lots of tech. I decided it wasn't for us. Chevy reduced rear leg room by an inch or so and the truck only comes with a short bed. I have a long bed now and love the extra room. The short bed is way too small to be useful. I also didn't love the 2.7l mated to the 8 speed. The 2.7l in the Silverado had a better power band. The truck also didn't ride as well as my 19. I ended up with a full size Silverado LTZ for 5k more. It had a V8 with similar mpg's, a much larger cargo area, a 10 speed transmission, much more storage and interior room and larger screen. Luckily I was able to get 7500 off msrp and 1.9% financing. The new Canyon/Colorado is just coming out now so no real discounts.

Their long travel dssv in the front for >$3,800? That's too much money for what they're asking. I suppose it's a niche market but they're only asking 2-3x as much as those components are worth.

    In the video the humming at speed is your tires? Also do your tires cause a lot of vibration in the steering wheel?

    • @TrailAdventuresTV
      @TrailAdventuresTV  4 года назад

      Hi TinkeringWithTravis. These tires are amazing. The best mud terrain tire I have ever owned. No vibration through the steering wheel. No humming. The noise you might be hearing is likely the LED ballast humming. That does get annoying. Thanks for your question. And thank you for tuning in.

      Harley Leonardo Thank you so much for the lead on the king shocks. Do you happen to have a part number? If not a link will do just fine as well.

      I am getting these (and King rears) put on my ZR2 tomorrow. Three of my four Multimatics are blown. Truck does have 70K miles on it with a ton of that highway driving. Maybe two days a month of moderately hard off-road use since November 2017. I was also given the "these shocks should last the life of the truck" line when I purchased. I was buying the truck no matter what; don't appreciate the line of BS in retrospect.

    How did you know the shocks ere starting to go bad? Was it the visible fluid? Or was it the performance?

    • @TrailAdventuresTV
      @TrailAdventuresTV  3 года назад +1

      Definitely fluid buildup around the base of the shock stand where it enters the shock body. And fluid on the garage floor.

    What is the average offroad teams budget? The average F1 budget is 300 million a season. Are they close? I would bet budget is the sole reason you don't see them in the offroad arena. If they are better how much better are they and how much would you have to invest in equipment, programing, and materials to switch over, when you already have the equipment ect to make a conventional shock any way you want. Would it be worth it for a team on a small budget like most offroad races are?
    I am pretty unimpressed with them if they are having issues so quickly. They were touted as NEVER wearing out. If they have conventional shock seals like it looks like they do, then they WILL wear out no matter what Chevy says.
    I bet Dirtking or a similar shop could set you up with a set of Kings or Foxes if you decide to move on from the multimatic shocks. If we are going to have to get new shocks eventually then is the cost of the truck worth it if we can get everything aftermarket other then the front locker?

    • @TrailAdventuresTV
      @TrailAdventuresTV  4 года назад

      Tommy Metz these are all great points you bring up. I doubt off-road teams have the same budget. And I did not see anyone running any multimatc shocks. And it does appear that they have very similar skills to any other shots. Therefore. They will wear out. And certainly have. Some quicker than others.

      scott jones That’s a great question. The six shooter is an awesome product. Check out the KC highlights under hood lighting video. And you will see where I mounted it and how I did it. If there is anything that’s unclear. I’ll be happy to answer those questions for you.
