As a CSX and railroad crossing fanatic, this makes me cry tears of joy. It really feels like there's an actual Train Simulator with developers that actually care about the quality of their content and their customers. Hyrail knows we expect nothing but the very best, and time and time again, they go above and beyond our expectations. DTG could care less about their customers and seem to care more about money since that's the only thing they want from us. I am proud to own Run8 and am highly disappointed with myself for not having touched it in a while. The only time I EVER touch TSC is when I feel like operating Pro Range Locomotives, Locomotives and freight from the best third party devs, and any items that have enhancements for them.
Definitely next level!! Running my first trains as of 12 PM 2/24 after 24 hours of updating symbols and entering them for Otto. Grew up in south GA and the scenery definitely feels like Jawga to me!!!!
Now this is a route built with passion and attention to detail. Great insight on the route mate, I just had to pick it up after this 😅 good thing i kept my 40 bucks from dtg lol
Fingers crossed that one day, however long it takes, Hi-Rail continues the region through the Lineville Sub. I drive over the Lineville Sub every day to and from work when I cross Wadley, AL, so I’m quite a bit biased towards it lol. Plus, Birmingham not only has CSX’s yard, but Norfolk Southern has a large yard nearby in Leeds, AL, BNSF has a yard in Birmingham, and AMTRAK has a station that the Crescent uses. Then, there’s Railroad Park which is an actual park complete with jungle gyms, benches, walking trails, etc. from which you can view all four railroads doing their thing and working hard while you’re having a nice, fun day at the park.
Oh man been waiting for this! Goodbye SW hello sexy SE super route. Time to get back to Run8 and my constant confusion about industries haha. Great video!
Man I wish these guys would create a western Pennsylvania region. So many cool operational opportunities. You'd have the CSX mainline, running between Cumberland and Pittsburgh, as well as several NS mainlines as well (Conway yard to Altoona would be amazing). Lots of industry to service, a massive coalmine complex/loadout, multiple coal-fired power plants to receive trains, mountain operations, and it's one of the last places in the US that still has a dedicated manned helper pool.
The railfan park in Cordele does have a rail cam and dispatcher radio speaker in the viewing area. The location also includes markers with the many railroads that have served the region. 🚂
Nice overview as it shows the detail that might be missed hooning by at 50 MPH. I was, perhaps a bit unfairly, critical of the route on my first couple of drives complaining about the avenue of trees effect, but since pointed out this is correct for the area. The only thing this does show is that R8 does need a game/graphics engine update, so that forests etc. can be represented more fully in the background rather than a thin line and with 3D trees in the foreground, too. Even as presented my potato PC (which does TSC and TSW3 pretty good) was struggling to meet my modest 30 FPS cap. However the driving experience with those grade changes is very intense, already had to deal with a string of broken couplers after I poured on the "beans" after overbraking and suffered the consequences. Think this route will really shine doing industry and local runs, which will give more of a chance to appreciate the fine detail and new (JR?) buildings.
Again for that, this could be achieved at a cost, each tree even if it batches costs VRAM, sure I could go out a mile, but realistically how many train cars could you have in a large yard and have smooth multiplayer operation, the Sim is designed to be used either in the cab, on the ground working, or as a railfan from a reasonable screenshot distance, I mean sure we could make the sim operable on only a 4090 card but realistically how many people could afford that, I'm not trying to be difficult but if we are in a tunnel of trees how far would you actually see from the cab or the ground and would it be worth the substantial performance hit
@@StormHunter71 I get all that Jason, but there may come a point at which Run 8 expands into an area where this type of scenery "trick" isn't going to work - maybe the Pacific North West or Alleghenies where you will need to show thickly wooded hill and mountain sides which *are* visible from the cab. Plus as I said at TS dot com in the newly opened R8 V4 (!) wishlist, the sim is straining to render what it does now. I know the MP and multiple consists are important but why can't we have that and something that doesn't hearken back to early era MSTS. We have sims like Derail Valley, Diesel Railcar Simulator and indeed SimRail running with Unity that are fairly up to date as regards graphics and don't require high end cards to get good performance (I have a GTX1650). Don't misunderstand me, I enjoy and support Run 8 but as time goes on it is in danger of getting left behind and both expanding the user base and retaining existing customers (more revenue coming in) with a significant graphics improvements should be very much at the forefront of where the game is going. IMHO, of course...
Just started the video, and I'm as excited for the new rout as I am for your exploration video! But I must say right off the bat that I don't know how you can play with the red cross thingy on! It hurts! :D Other than that, thank you so much for this video already! Ok, back to it now!
Hey man i love all your train vids . Just subscribed this weekend. Cool stuff. I been playing all these recent train sim games for awhile. This Run 8 game always gets me on my nerves. Its soo freaking hard for me to drive a train or move around freely. Why they make this game so complicated. Just to explore the route
You mention the hills and how the track bobs up and down, cant wait to see NW Louisiana / East Texas. The UP Mineola and Little Rock subs are the worst on our system for tearing trains up. You wont find more severe hogbacks anywhere on our system! And as for the JR content in game, maybe this means we may see JR rolling stock and engines in R8 one day.....
I love Run8 a lot but I'm not a huge fan of all these route areas always being West Coast or South Coast as I'm a North-Eastern guy and would Love to see more of that than anything. I frequently wonder why so many Railroading Simulators kind of ignore these areas in games. When a company decides to do here it's always Altoona Horseshoe Curve to Johnstown and that's it which sucks as there is so much more than that. My town is one of the Major historical railroading hotspots as everything coming from the West to the East has to come through here, at one time between 1887 to 1976 5 major railroads all traveled in this area at once to head into NYC or Chicago taken over April 1st, 1976, by yours truly Conrail of Course now owned and operated by Norfolk Southern. I've been custom building all the areas around here on Trainz in super detail using JR content of course for the last 2 and half years and most likely will be finished by next year with the Route stretching from "East" Clinton NJ to "West" Enola Yard and from "South" Allentown to "North" Scranton a Great amount of trackage to run on if you don't mind me saying so. I just recently got to play an Alpha Build of a game called "Railroader" developed by Giraffe Lab LLC that's coming out 2023 on Steam only and how I would like to say it was Awesome it still has so much work needed to be done before anyone can say it will take a spotlight in American Railroading. Absolutely No real-world Physics, little to no interactions in cab and out feeling more like a Model Railroading game than anything. Look's really pretty but then again so did TSW3 and look at that mess. Best feature is that it's Online with Friends other than that guess have to wait till find out. I love the Video's but almost 2 hours long could you maybe in the future bake them down smaller like 40mins or something on that nature.
Agree I think a fascinating study would be Kansas City to St Louis with the choice of alternate routes at Jefferson City either via the River Sub or Sedalia. I have an old signalling/traffic management game from SIAM of that territory and often wondered why no one has tackled at least part of it. I guess it comes down to what their "in house" and associate teams are familiar with. Sadly unless they ever relent and release a public route editor (unlikely after all this time) not going to happen.
Mostly because it is where we live and what accurate data we have access to, I'm from Orlando, I've been building the A line since MSTS Days , and we expand from there
