Awesome project. I'm glad Grant Thompson introduced your channel. This is how Make magazine started but quickly went off the technical deep end. Thanks for keeping it simple and kid friendly. I look forward to doing lots of these projects with my kids.

Hi. I'm going to be using this project for my extra curricular classes at my school. The Piezo ignighters that I've found are from used up gas lighters. They only have 1 wire on them though. Is there a way to soder on another wire? Thanks
Those types should have a bit of metal (ground) on the side that connects to the barrel of the lighter. (Some might be reversed with the wire on the side and solid metal end.) That's what you'd want to connect your added wire to. There will always be two connection points somewhere on the device.

I live in Ireland so it is very difficult to get rubbing alcohol so is there a substitute fuel that I could use

clanline35028 HEAT is just a alternate product you can use. Really you can use anything that is highly flammable.

I had some issues finding some of the pvc parts. I was able to get all of them but some have rigid octagon like ends and some are smooth. Is this an issue?
A _little_ late, but perhaps this will help others: Knife, saw or sandpaper to remove material. Hot glue to fill gaps. The paint will make the whole thing come together better than you might expect at first. Whether there is an issue depends on how different your parts are from the plan and if you're willing to do a little work to make them what you need.

There is the part the nipple with a piece of paper and half-filled with glue in the combustion chamber. I don't understand why? Could you please explain?

Help i followed the plans exactly as specified, but the cannon does not work whatsoever. Combustion is extremely slow and barely has enough energy to push the marshmallow half way down the barrel

Can you help please wont set off (as in the fuel rod and trigger wont react) and everything is set up correctly?
A few possible troubleshooting steps might include:
#1 - Verify you have spark. This is easily done by taking the ignition switch into a dark room and pushing the button. You should be able to clearly see a little spark jump between the ends of the wires. If you don’t see a spark you may have a bad ignition switch.
#2 - Verify you have fuel. The fuel sponge needs to be wet, but not too wet. The best way is to spray it enough to saturate the sponge just to the point where the sponge begins to drip. More than that is too much.
#3 - a possible tweak would be to use denatured alcohol. Rubbing alcohol works, but denatured alcohol is a little more combustible and therefore a little more consistent. An easy-to-find source of denatured alcohol can be found at most auto-parts stores (www.amazon.com/28201-Gas-Line-Antifreeze-Water-Remover/dp/B0016GXNC4)
Can someone tell me what the pump is for please.
John Arcidiacono the pump clears out CO2 from the combustion chamber so you can fire again.
It suppley oxigen to the chamber for the combustion.
My plug for the igniter is just flat, no dip any suggestions?

Would require a very different mechanism. Check out The King of Random's old videos about two years ago for a automatic marshmallow cannon. I believe it used compressed air, not alcohol. Mark Rober also made an interesting snowball machine gun from a leaf blower. :D
I got a clear spark, 70% denatured alcohol and the sponge is wet enough but it wont fire it. can you pls help me
The 30% water isn't helping you. Go with 91% or pure alcohol sold as fuel. Won't matter much between denatured ethanol and isopropyl. Make sure you pump to clear the old gasses out for each shot.
how about a paint ball can we use it as a sniper

No. It's 50% water, which doesn't evaporate fast enough.

I was having the same issue. I found that if you take off the barrel, put a couple sprays of alcohol in the combustion chamber, then light it with a lighter, that will get the cannon primed. Just be sure to blow out the flame. from there i was able to get it to shoot after pumping air every time.
how big is your piezoelectric spark
Matthew Robinson Same problem here. I wonder if ambient temperature of the fuel and gun have something to do with this? I was able to fire as long as the chamber was warm. Thnx for the suggestion with the lighter! Still troubleshooting though.

Does anyone know what the FPS or feet per second is.
That depends on tiny differences in the materials in each cannon, each marshmallow, how much fuel vapor and how much oxygen is in the chamber at the exact moment you fire. Every shot on every cannon will be different. This is why combat cannons and smaller firearms eventually changed into using pre-loaded explosives in closed containers when technology allowed it - for a predictable shot _almost_ every time. (Misfires and variances still happen sometimes.)
