@@matt_yuanwhat were you thinking!? then again that gag quenched some primal urge inside me to see a nurf gun in a dryer? I have no clue but it quenched something
As a nerf and firearms enthusiast, I thought of tapping gas out like a real rifle when I heard about the dart bursting. If your theory is correct, by drilling a hole near the end of the tube, excess "gas" will be tapped out and you can use it to load another dart /j For those wondering, that last bit was for real rifles. But in this case, I suppose just having a tapered hole near the end of the barrel can possibly remove excess air. Matt, you should really try this and put it back into the shell and do cosmetic mods and make it cooler! Although this was cool enough. Seeing your streak of pressured air blasters, what about using the tapped gas into a extra gas chamber, then using the extra air, why not make a masterkey? Im no engineer but using my logic, it is possible to do so. Also, I almost had an aneurysm seeing you put the blaster into a dryer- I should do that too XD
I think the issue is that the dart bursts before its hardly even moved, the air slams into the dart and bursts it before it reaches any real speed. Maybe isntead he could either use some form of packing material/wadding to absorb it, or use harder darts. the longer barrel was a good idea but maybe not long enough.
This was my favorite blaster as a kid, traded a bunch of plastic lightsabers for one! Something that you might know already, but could be useful if you don't, is that this one came with special high density foam darts with solid plastic inserts as reinforcement. Your final 3d printed dart design is not far off how the original darts worked! If you wanna look into it more, they were called "Buzz Bee Extreme Darts" and the stock blaster can do 3-6" groupings at 50-60 feet with them!
To be fair, in the hobby a lotta people used to use exactly that back in the day. Long, thin, powerful tubes may not be the prettiest, but they can be darn effective!
Matt: *makes nerfgun toop powerful* Me: that's nice... now what happens if added an metal spike at the end of the darts? My flont, back, and living room cameras: 50 intruders breaking in.
PS: I‘ve always Wanted to build something Crazy Like this, because i am an Hobby-Engineer And i did it once with a Nerf Stryfe. It didn‘t work. Can you maybee build a Nerf shotgun off a Insectizide sprayer? Ist’s my biggest Dream to do this myself and i Really want to se it come Alive with your channel.
You can make a few holes near the muzzle to drain the pressure before walls of the dart will get torn due to lack of containing force provided by walls of the barrel
I think you could glue a reinforced tube inside the dart so its what takes all the pressure and not the soft foam body, also adds a bit of mass to make it go further.
To fix this problem you need a 1 inch long piece of 3/8 pex in a brass barrel and thats it. Ive tested this with this gun and its about 215 fps. 3/8 pex is also perfect for a anti suction spacer for most applications.
Holes near the end of the pipe will let air out without the dart taking the pressure all at once. Though it is possible it is destroying the dart in the middle of the barrel.
@@dogdog357haha, I don’t know about a suppressor. Though, in the modded nerf/custom nerf scene there are barrel attachments that add rifling for increased accuracy in springers.
@chilledburrito Well I know scars are a thing. But I'm curious if adding a suppressor would 1. Help reduce the amount of air escaping the barrel through the dart and 2. Make the blaster quieter due to less air escaping as fast
@@dogdog357 1: It’s possible, I’d imagine it’s dependent on various factors that I don’t fully understand as I only really dabble in nerf, at least the physics part. but if the goal is to stop the dart from splitting, I’d check the barrel for extrusions first, and if there’s no problem there, I’d try a dart with less friction or firmer foam, if none of those work, putting some tape around the dart should stop the splitting, and the 3D printed projectile Matt made is an interesting way of fixing the problem LOL 2: maybe, I’m definitely not an expert on this specifically. I know for certain in a standard springer setup, the sound produced by the air is usually undermined by the plunger, and theres no point trying to put a suppressor on a fly wheeler. But since the setup Matt made, consisting of pretty much a valve and an air tank, it, itself should produce very little noise as you’d expect, and there are suppressors in Airsoft that can dampen the noise of the air exiting the barrel using a design very similar to an actual suppressor. It would probably only dampen it a tiny bit, it definitely wouldn’t be as drastic of a change as a real suppressor. You’d probably get better information from chatGPT than me to be honest LOL
My boy, let me start by saying I watch a lot of RUclips. But sweet heavens do I love your content SO much man. Absolute gem of a channel you have. I’m forever in your debt and I eagerly await every upload. An unsung legend you are ❤️
You can make the darts stronger by wrapping them in a layer or 2 of packing tape and trimming off the excess, you might need a wider inner diameter on your barrel though
Make a scar barrel or even a slotted scar barrel, this allows the excess air to escape, fishing line scar barrel. I tride a tank mod with one of these years ago, it worked, but over powered and split darts, fluted scar fixed that.
I just wanna say before I get further into the video, that buzz bee hunter was da bomb, like, I loved that thing and it could shoot so damn hard, had a bipod and a scope, loved it as much as I did the pump action drum one with the shells
Being a nerf hobbyist, the moment you said foam darts won’t cut it and made plastic bullets… my giggles erupted, my heart sank and my grin widened out of control
Totally awesome! I'd recommend adding some rifling to make the dart spin, so that it not only goes more accurate, but also maintains it's velocity farther. You could probably 3d print a sort of scar barrel, or maybe even design a dart with spiral grooves in it? Also, for more velocity, you'd want the dart to be more light. Also, if you want to fix that dart bursting problem, you could consider wrapping the dart in tape, or alternatively, printing a jacket for it. Also, I was thinking, do you think it's possible to make a nerf gun that can shoot around corners?
What if for the 3d printed darts you increase the barrel length or increase the amount of compressed air that it could hold cause I think that it might increase the accuracy
I had a LOT of success with an Airtech 3000 and using brass barrels, plugged pump and removed air restrictor. 6 shots, auto rotate, a WALLOP of power. I also used Frost king foam to make my own darts, so they couldn't explode. Old ones would still have their heads ripped off, but yeah. Would love to see you tackle that blaster
As the owner of the painfully disappointing arctic skin Nerf Longstrike, literally anything to enhance the reputation of nerf sniper rifles is a godsend
You need gas port like on gas-operated firearm. Just drill some holes into the barrel about 1-1.5 lengths of the dart before exit - the gas will dissipate and the barrel will still be squeezing the dart to keep it intact :D
I made a nerf gun a few years ago using a long metal pipe and a pump with a pressure gauge and valve, it broke the darts on impact with anything other than bed sheets and could smash through a plastic plant pot with ease
Just figured I'd drop my two cents in, as I've seen and had this happen on more than one occasion with these air pressure blasters like the Orion and the AirTech line. Depending on the size of you aluminum, it may be due to the fit being far too tight. Material like brass, CPVC, and aluminum are too tight for airguns. A lighter, slightly looser material may be your key here, and I would specifically preach on the benefits of PETG. Give that a shot and see if there's a difference.

Maybe a curved end like a blunderbuss so that the air escape isn't as harsh?
I was thinking the same thing. drill some holes in the long barrel, then stick a "muzzle break" over the real muzzle break to make it look good
