When I first moved to sf many years ago an engineer told me about you - who would’ve thought I’d be watching your day in the life many years later! This guys a legend. Great video
It's just strange!! You know I'm currently a student who's preparing for his upcoming interviews. I knew that principal sde is like the top level position you can achieve as an engineer. But after watching all these day in a life video I thought nah being an SWE at a good company will be enough for me as life is also about doing things you like other than work as I'm also a guy who has multiple hobbies (working out, playing guitar and recently I was thinking of starting doing videography and basketball). I thought principal SDEs won't get time for that and they're those super busy people who only focus on work all day. But after watching your video and seeing you saying that working out is a big part of your routine and seeing you learning tattooing and playing piano I realised that it's all about being focused and dedicated instead of saying that it's not for me. Thanks for this video. One of the most needed videos for me.
It's okay that you do for 9-10hours of work for the hefty pay, huge stocks and generous perks you get. But do you have a life ? Do you have a family ? Do you spend time with them ?
Given your background, this channel is a gem. Thanks for your humility. I was wondering when can I expect to acquire your book on games, which I think you mentioned you were working on? Peace
First of all great vid bro :D Very refreshing. But secondly, living in Manhattan and having *that* view of the City...I really wonder how much the rent is there xD
i also want to be a coder...m just a beginner....but honestly got a bit scared with wht u were coding....how will i do it?...will i be able to do it as well??
Everything seems scary before you understand it. Complexity can be broken down into pieces. I feel the same way when I watch surgery or a pilot sitting at the controls of a commercial jet. Seems extremely complex and scary, but I'm sure once you learn it, things fall into place and then it's a matter of practice and effort. Just get started!
Same thing when I started..a lot of things sound so foreign to me...methods in Java was like the hardest thing to understand for me...but got better..and now I’m a software developer
SE3 here -- there's no way I'd trust a princapee who drank decaf. Unless you wrote TS -- then maybe there could be a trust negotiation. Edit: Turkey bacon? Trust gained.
Subscribed and hit the bell icon, please make more of these videos man! please share more on how to grow one's software career from a midlevel to a principal engineer, again many thanks :)
thought the same thing when I found out a principal engineer spends < 20% coding on the job. I think this guy's mostly trying to self promote himself. Too bad he doesn't get laid.

No single people interaction
I would improve this life by adding more people

Being a PE is also learning to delegate tasks. That's how you make time for yourself.

Ummm if you look at his coding he has variables like koopas and goombas Either he is trolling or he is developing a new Mario game.

Thanks for this typical day disclosure. Small question: Does the principal engineer role really code generally?
thought the same thing when I found out a principal engineer spends < 20% coding on the job. I think this guy's mostly trying to self promote himself. Too bad he doesn't get laid.

Do you have a bachelors degree ?
Great video ☺️ do you always drink decaf?
I'll sometimes throw some regular beans in there. But I also get my caffeine from EBOOST energy powder drink (about 110mg per packet)
Apartment tour with price info pretty please?
Tell me one thing about your social life.. like you never spoke or met a person in the video. Other than meetings..

Kinda like eat(), code(), sleep, repeat (). But ain't we all?? Plus I do TM too. Key takeaway is mindfulness n blocks of time to do stuff 💯
Make a video about your computer setup please
