The “Hello darkness my old friend “ phrase belongs to the song “Sound of silence” from Simon and Garfunkel corrected me if I’m wrong if it is Eminem was so smart to use it because that song talks about how bad we were as a society in the 60’s....
Correct on the nod to Sound of Silence, but I interpret the Sound of Silence a little differently. That song, to me, represents society's inability to foster effective communication. It is not limited to the '60s, but is just as applicable today. This, interesting enough, can also be a double entendre to Em's music and society. Em feels like people don't fully grasp the deep meanings within his music, but instead takes them at face value. This has devolved the rap industry to just making noise instead of communicating a message ("people talking without speaking"). On a societal level, failure to communicate and be heard can have devastating consequences from mental health to legislative failure at passing wide sweeping reformative legislation.
This is a masterpiece from Eminem- and i really liked how you broke it down even though you catched it late- that made it even more real and i think, you made the double meaning really clear- and thats waht it is about! It makes it relatable! Great reaction video!
@@MorbidNights158 of course not.. Em does the whole double entendre thing much better than I did because he tied it really brilliantly with his life. My single is an anti-drug single which speaks on how artist's influence their listeners. Feel free to give it a shot! Eminem has always been one of my greatest inspirations!
This type of shit is the reason why Eminem will always be my favorite artist of all time no matter how hard he falls off in the future. Nothing he does can discredit what a great artist he is. It takes someone with immense talent to pull off these kind of continuous double entendres, and he does it so discreetly. This song made me get kinda emotional. Partially because of the significance of the message, but partially because it reminded me why I will always be a loyal Stan.
Darius Eatmon I’m with you. I’m a metal head but Eminem is my favourite artist because he’s unique , a genius. The way he can arrange words , the message he wants to deliver is just crazy. It’s another level of expressing feelings and thoughts.

Bro for a second I thought y’all wouldn’t get the Las vegas reference 😂😂😂. Once the hood was off and y’all didn’t catch It I almost gave up. Glad you got it tho Hahaha
I really love how in the beginning, you can sympathize with the character he's portraying. It forces you to realize that these people who mass murder are just as human as us, and that is a scary thought. It could be your neighbor, it could be your nephews best friend in high school, it could be your lawyer. Everyone has the potential to snap, but mental health isn't taken very seriously in America. If enough people really cared, perhaps it could change. I'm not defending anyone who does these horrible horrible things, by the way. I just find that making these people out to be monsters, less than human is more harmful than accepting that humans can be like this. If you recognize this, you can try to help prevent it more. Idk i'm kinda rambling now.
Exactly this. Him telling his story and the shooter with the same words is a powerful way to show exactly what you said. We could all be close to the line and it may not take much to cross it.
No these are monsters. I don't sympathize with them. Mental illness or no, you're a grown ass adult and you know its wrong. And instead of seeking help, coming out saying they are wanting to do things like this they go through with it. Inexcusable. Even if they weren't monsters before, they certainly were after they did it. Not just any kind of human is capable of this. Only certain kinds. Mental illness is a problem and should be addressed. But I don't sympathize with killers under any circumstances and they should not be shown any ounce of leniency. Crazy or not.
@@pariscarla822 "In the beginning you can sympathize" you know, before dude went all mass murderer and shit. Of course people who actually commit such atrocities should not be shown sympathy. I don't know where in my post you got the idea that I thought otherwise.
“You can’t murder a show nobodies at” just caught that line my 3rd time listening. From a performers standpoint murdering a show is having it be crazy successful, but the double meaning is he’s gonna shoot it up, actually murdering the show. Holy shit em.

Stan - Eminem
Stan forever
Why call yourself a Stan tho? Just be a fan, the whole point of Stan is about when one takes being a fan too far.
This song was so deep how he went into the mind of the shooter and he letting people know that if you need help go get it

Yep.
Part of me thought that everytime I heard "hello darkness, my old friend".
He’s talking about the Vegas shooting. What a message.
and his career, and his drug abuse... all within same bar
key bear EXACTLY!!!
Hopper idk if anyone else caught it before they said it but it’s crazy how he’s tells the story about this shooting. So wild
Exactly this. Him telling his story and the shooter with the same words is a powerful way to show exactly what you said. We could all be close to the line and it may not take much to cross it.
Well said!!

@@mrboomboombop well the whole song of The Sound of Silence is making reference to the status quo and how people know there's an elephant in the room regardless of the topic (here it is gun control laws) and how nobody actually speaks out, or calls out the issue. Its a triple entendre.. Eminems own mind is alonr in the darkness, he's trying to pull us in with him. He's always done this. Since "SSLP". He doesn't even know why. "You'll never find a motive."
"They'll never figure me out." Its been 20 years and we still haven't, so he's finally telling us. This is it, his entire life in one song.
Good catch on that line at the ends to tie it in with EM's life.
@@radtalon6079 at first i thought the last couple lines were only about the shooter but if you apply it to Ems life it makes sense.

I like that it took you so long to get it.
