For most the line "it was summertime in northern Michigan" merely gives the listener a sense of time and place. Those from Michigan understand what Kid Rock means on another level. Summertime in northern Michigan = Heaven on Earth. Warm days, cool nights, lakes, campfires, starry nights, friendly people, gorgeous landscapes, and none of the hustle and hassle of the rat race. It's where everyone in Michigan wishes they lived, but our jobs and those northern winters keep us at bay 😢
Chill, any place/time in michigan is 4/10 at best
There ain't much of it, unfortunately. From a former Yoopa to another...
As a grand rapidian golf addict (the northern golf courses are incredible) I cannot agree more with literally everything you just said hahah
Sounds a lot like where I'm from tbh
@@fluffernutter6633 😂😂😂
This makes me miss the 80s, even tho i wasnt even alive back then
That's cool...
This song came out in 2008
@@JustAnotherMike_ i know but its about that time lol
@@Amber-jt5bo Fair enough I guess lol
Yes
The radio blanks out "smoking".
What is wrong with that word? It is so dumb! Much better when the whole song plays.
All he's singing is when he was a teenager....get real.
It took me 8 years to find this because I thought it was called sweet home Alabama
Same
Same!
Same
Lynyrd Skynyrd- Sweet Home Alabama
Same ahahahah
This makes me feel nostalgic about my teenage years when I haven’t even lived through all of it yet
Aw your just a baby❤️we were blessed with the best music. I’m 54 and happy I am. Run DMC was rap😂 when I was a teenager and then the beastie boys🤪
Ok
I have missed this song so much. I remember my Dad creating a beautifully crafted playlist consisting mostly of hard rock and such and this song has really stuck with me through all of the years, along with Don't Stop Believin', Highway to Hell, Paradise City, and American Pie. We would listen to this playlist when we would visit my grandparents up in Northern Michigan.
The nostalgia really hurts, now more than ever, especially since I am starting to relate the lyrics at 3:12.
I miss the days where we could all go camping and listen to Dad's stories of his childhood. I miss the trips where I was still young and innocent and where I wouldn't have to worry about all the homophobic and racist things my Nana says.
I just want to go back so I can appreciate what I had then. Why can't I? Summertime isn't the same anymore.
Then, I didn't have to worry about anyone but myself and my sister. Now, I have to worry about my ex, about my little brother, about all of my suicidal friends thinking they worth it.
I didn't have to worry about responsibility, or hormones, or growing up in general. All I feel like I do anymore is sit around in my room and use my computer, never going outside anymore. Shit, that's what I'm doing right now!
I have so much pent up anger and frustration, and sadness in general, and I don't have anyone to talk to because all of my friends vent to me.
To them, I am the one who is always happy, makes the best jokes, and just knows what to do and say in every situation, and don't get me wrong, I love being that person for them, but I can't do it forever. I feel like I'm lying to them every time we talk and I don't want to ruin the persona I've created for them.
And it's not like they forced this onto me either, I took it willingly, i just feel like everyone has bigger problems than I do, so mine can wait.
One of my friends saw their brother commit suicide right in front of them by blowing his brains out in the closet, while I'm sitting here, wallowing in the fear that I have to grow up sometime soon.
I sound pathetic compared to them, I know. And when I do open up, they say things like "oh yeah, I understand how you feel, my friends do that to me too" but no, you *don't* know what it's like, because I know things that they haven't even told you.
Stop trying to one up me and guilt trip me into thinking you life is so much horrible than mine. Sure, you life might *actually* be a living hell, but telling me that you life is so much more terrible than what I am going through right now isn't making me feel better.
It's making feel way worse, like I'm burdening you even more or being over dramatic over something silly. I just want to go back to the good days before my anxiety and social issues. I want to go back to singing All Summer Long with Dad out the car windows.
I don't want to be here anymore.
And if there is anyone here who has read to this point, I am so sorry. I am a huge asshole online, and if we were to meet in real life, you might think that the person who wrote this is a completely different person, so I feel bad for dumping all of this on a poor unsuspecting commenter seeing this after trying to take a trip down memory lane or something of that sort.
In short, the internet is an addiction and I need to get away from it.
(hey here's an edit from 2 years later on New Year's Eve 2022: I changed the formatting a bit because it was kinda hard to read ngl and had to unfortunately change some of the relationship statuses with people i mentioned.
Just wanted to let anyone interested that I'm still kicking and that some of my life has improved.
I eventually started counseling with a family friend so I can tell people I started therapy. I got a professional opinion that highly suggested I have ADHD. Self-harm episodes have dropped significantly, and I think it's safe to say that I can healthily confide in a new friend I made while in school.
Last year my own mother suggested that I try an after school activity and with a little bit of encouragement from friends I decided to join the theatre program.
Best decision of my life.
Never thought I'd be an actor, assumed I'd be in the back doing lights and other tech work, but instead I am considered the 'fill-in' because I picked up a role kind of last minute for a performance and did well enough that they directly cast me for a much more complicated role for the next show.
I did break-up with my significant other, and it was pretty messy, but I do still worry about them.
Thanks for your support and talking me through these last two years, it was nice to see you all reminiscing with me.)
how does this have only 9 likes..
thank you for sharing,i readed it all, it made my day better some how, thank you
keep it up brother, u can do this.
@@mikevisser3915 I appreciate it dude, you keep on living life too!

This song encapsulates my boyfriend and I's high school years perfectly. just substitute 1989, with 1986, and lake Michigan, with Canyon Ferry in Helena, Montana. Man i miss those days, and him. Little did I know, just a year later, he would be killed in a car crash. Love you forever Kailan...
That is horrible, I hope you manage to cope well.
I’m so sorry 😥😭
Don’t use UTube much.. , think this is my Sons account. Also grew up in Helena swimming in Canyon Ferry everyday.. 1976! Long time ago. Sorry for your loss! Cheers
So sorry mate. Chin up, chest out. 👩❤️👨
thank you all....it's hard sometimes, but i keep going. this 4th of july was 35 years, and i'm not gonna lie, if it wasn't for a very good friend, i don't think i would've made it through. i think she quite literally saved my life. now i just need to keep going as memories start returning, there is so much i don't remember after he was killed.
Its like Werewolves of London and Sweet Home Alabama had a lovechild.
Those two songs have exactly the same chord progression in the same key anyway.
@@ThighFishhe literally used the same riff from werewolves of London
At last WEREWOLVES OF LONDON WARREN ZEVON
I used to think that this song was called sweet home alabama
Aliza Ali Khan facts !!!!
I remember that to be different XD
Lol
Aliza Ali Khan if you didn’t think that at one point you never lived hahahaha
It's the same beat
I like listening to this song. For some reason, it always calms me down or takes some stress away. It reminds me of back in the days even thou I was not even born when the song came out.
Your confusing this song with Sweet Home Alabama by Lynard Skynard..this song is all summer long by kid rock. So Sweet home Alabama was 1974 and All summer long is 2007
Oooohhhh being 12 and all us 6th graders belting this in the back of the bus
hahaha
Okay I'm on the bus in 6th grade I'm creeped out 😂😂

This comment makes me feel old..
I let my best friend play some songs from her phone in my car on my bluetooth sometimes when we go for drives and the last few times she did, she played this song and I've had it on repeat in my car the last couple days. This is a really good song. Not a fan of Kid Rock but this is an awesome song. Probably one of my favourite songs now. Thanks to my friend for introducing me to this song.
I feel sorry for those too old or too young to have lived this song. Good times! I lived it, loved it and will have it forever.
Or the current generation that doesn't know the value of anything but themselves!
Quarantine anyone??😂
You bet lol
yup
Helena Taylor right right

Sweet Home Alabama 2: Electric Boogaloo

Electric Boogaloo isn't just a Grian thing, it may be a reference but just thought I'd point that one out

This song remimds me of my early 20s. But i did go and find that girl again.
Dang, dude, that's just proof you guys are meant to be together.
I was in Michigan for a friend's wedding. I have known him for ages. He worked with my dad. Match made in heaven. Love you Matt and Leah ❤️

What lake is it??
@@laurenemond7033 torch lake
Ha lmafo
Sorry LMFAO
Wasn't torch lake either, I believe it was in TN. Not positive, but heard he got the idea for the song after spending time at long lake near hale, MI.
I remember listening to this growing up in SC, some of the best times of my life were when my house wasn’t burnt down down there. Sadly I’m stuck where it gets cold…I don’t like cold weather so I looked for this song to remind me of where I was born and raised the first 15 years of my life and get me in a happy mood! I grew up listening to all forms of rock AC/DC, Dio, Black Sabbath etc and I’m not sure if Kid Rock is really 100% rock? It I did LOADS of rockin to this song!!!! This one and rock n roll Jesus!
Listening to this on the last day of summer! I had an amazing summer! May the spirit of summer be with you, even after summer!
Just a great story telling song. The visuals of those great Northern Michigan summers.
Yha them northern Michigan summers Can get pretty crazy
Werewolves of london + sweet home alabama = all summer long

This was my dads favorite song....... before he died......😭😭😭😭😭😭
Rip to your father
I'm verry sorry 😔
Some songs were *too perfect* to begin with and can't really be covered, so *Kid Rock* did the next best thing and changed it into a *Tribute* instead and *NAILED IT!!*
Kid Rock + "Sweet Home Alabama" + "Werewolves of London" = This Amazing Song.
Kid Rock is just the best man does he rock and the song makes me want the days back that are gone , Thanks Kid Rock from D Salton of London, On, Canada
This song was amazing I’m in love omg...heaven😆😚🤗
Me & my daughter's song!! May sound strange but she totally got it!!! ❤
Werewolves of London + Sweet Home Alabama = This Cool Hit! Warren and Ronny would be so proud 😁👍🏻
Man, I haven’t heard this song in years!
i've spent forever trying to find this song my dad and his best friend played it at our cabin a few years back and it's stuck with me since then so happy i found it🙏🙏
This song makes me think of a werewolf in Alabama
Reminiscing all the words of this song reflecting the good old days… Class of 1988, with friends in a small town in Georgia called Snellville.
My dad died about 3 years ago and this is one of his fave songs!😭😭😭😭
I am so sorry for your lost
Your dads a legend
I remember listening to this on a ride to get Christmas ornaments with my parents in the car, and just feeling at peace with everything.
Why would this song be on the radio at Christmastime?
Ok
This song brings back memories of me and my dad chilling at the lake😎
🧿🧿🧿
I've wanted a summer just like this for the last 8 years.
2013 and my dad playing this with his band mannn miss those days
i hopethey keep youtube and get rid of the rest of the internet one day so all we have is music like this.
This is my favourite kid rock song ever singing sweet home Alabama all summer long we should all sing this on a boat that would be hilarious 😂 😂😂😂😂😂😂

By the time I found this comment section, Yes, indeed, I was taking a walk down memory lane. 2022 is where I am now, but seem to exist (more to myself), in the past... I send out a huge hug and lots of love to Marco Polo... I appreciate your extremely long comment as it has grounded me, opened my eyes and given me a reason to love this song even more than I already did. Thanks for being you and being real! ❤️
I used to listen to this when I was growing up and I found the song again so many good memories listening to this song

I'm 23 and honestly this song and music takes out today's music. Don't get me wrong I listen to it, I still like it but THIS is music. Today's artists really could learn a thing or two

Werewolves of london?
This bloody we all want to go back this takes me back to 97 used to walk by girlfriend home brilliant summer nights then don Henley came on the radio end of the innocence ☺
This song is hip and far out. Makes me want to go all the way hippie. I'm actually letting my hair grow. I was born in 1999 ten years after the setting of this song.
If only I could get a girl to join me.

Thank you Bobby, this song makes me feel young again! Love ya!
Born in 2006 but this goes hard still
Born in 2005, same for me!
I will eternally be amused that this song talks so much about Sweet Home Alabama, but uses the melody from Werewolves of London.
Damn. My mom used to blast this all the time. Ah. When the world used to make a bit more sense kinda
My goddess how fucking happy we were at that time!!! No internet, sipping whiskey out of the bottle and no thinking about tomorrow... I still miss that blondie.. Thanks to fucking coronavirus, violence and heavy drugs of today, my kids will never live something like that.
the sudden realization that music like this will never come out again is scary
And say what you want about Kid Rock, but some of his songs are legit great.

Jail brought me here hahah when I was getting transferred to another jail in the bus the the sheriffs started to play this song , always found it soothing to be quite frank haha
Opening chords sound like Werewolves of London.
they are lol
You're right. That and the music from "Sweet Home Alabama" were sampled.
Absolutely
Theo French Yeah and both Ronnie Van Zant and Warren Zevon are dead. I wonder what they’d think.
That's the point
Michigander approved!!
I love this song ❣️
I saw a werewolf with a Chinese menu in his hand...
Wrong song
I remember coming home from a school missions trip, my friend requested "The Kid Rock version" of Sweet Home Alabama. The teacher goes, there is no kid rock version of Sweet Home Alabama! Kid rock just added "Sweet Home Alabama" in his own song!
That's like saying "The Ed Sheeran version of Tiny Dancer" just because he mentions it in castle on the Hill.
If music were a drug I'd be addicted to it.
Perfect song for Summer!
Yeah
This song reminds me of being up north at my grandma and papas in the summer time
Last day of summer, guys! I'm sure gonna miss it!
2019 anyone? Lol this is still my favourite song! XD
