This song is fucking depressing actually if you think about it for more than 2 seconds of "hehe pina colada make drunk".
They were both more than ready to cheat on eachother and the only reason they didn´t is pure chance. If that were a real situation the second you both meet eachother in that bar you should realize that the relationship is over, because even though you proved to one-another that youre more in tune than you ever thought... you already ended the relationship emotionally without having the balls to say it out loud and rather would go behind eachothers backs without any consideration for the other. So, to be completely precise the song should end with both going seperate ways after realizing what they did to their respective partner....
But then again, you can´t market that to the "hehe funny drink song" masses.

this song has so many more layers than I thought.
It was surprisingly more wholesome and warm fuzzy feeling than I expected from a song that's used for jokes in movies so often. I've been alive 24 years and only now actually listened to the entire song, and it put a big smile on my face

Long lasting love is complicated, but ultimately in the same situation of boring routines together they fell to the same vice. Searching for something exciting and new, in the form of cheating. For better or for worse they are bound together, the silver lining is that they are one even when fed up, and they are one in their desire for change and the dream they have of it. They can recover their bond by realizing they are in the same boat with the same wish and going from there. And they do not judge each other. If you want to judge them then it's really no concern for these fictional characters because in this story no one knew but each other, and they grew from it. Welcome to the less glamorous but sometimes still beautiful side of marriage!

I really like this song. It even brings me some tears. We can be outraged by the fact that they were about to cheat on each other. This is the worst, yeah, but this is also where the moral (and a beautiful one) comes from : You are good with your partner, and you'll never finish to know each other because we keep evolving as time passes by. So let's take care of what we already have. Let's discover and fall in love with each other again and again.
For me, they didn't laugh because they think that cheating is okay but because they realized what a big mistake it would have been, and that what they always wanted was just sitting in front of them all this time.

One day my Son and I were talking about great song’s past until now. He said he loved this song… I ask what song, he answered the Pina Colada song. I agreed and said that was a great song, then I asked him if he listened to the lyrics, he said no but loved the song.
So I decide to play it for him, with the lyrics and told him listen again… afterwards he laughed and said… that is the coolest song I’ve heard! He told me he thought it was about drinking and loved the music but had not really listened to the word’s before.
We both love to singing, write poem’s and songs this is why we were talking about great song’s and how we got on the subject. This song is definitely a classic and a beautiful story of two people finding each other again.
