Love your story, want to add mine. I've had 4 RX8s since 2013 and all 4 are still on the road working well. It all started when my Dad got an RX8 for my Mom back in 2013. It was a JDM 2003 AT with the stock BBS rims only available in Japan. Didnt know anything about it other than it looked really cool. But because I'm the mechanic of the family it was always up to me to maintain it. I absolutely loved working on it and learned so much about it in the process. Around a year later, a red 2004 JDM RX8 5 speed manual popped up on the local ebay for cars saying it had lost compression. I go over there and crank it and the pulses were there, just wouldn't start. They were convinced the engine was toast. I bought it and had the engine running in about 2 hours. Compression was 7-8 bar on all rotor faces so I really scored big. Loved that car. About 2 years later, the AT my mom got was starting to give issues. But at the time I was looking at another RX8 for her. The third RX8 was a grey 2005 AT also JDM but it ran brilliantly. He only wanted $4500 for it and it was literally perfect. I believe it had a new engine and transmission put in before it was shipped from Japan. Compression ended up being in the high 8's - low 9's. She still drives that car to this day and its spectacular. My 4th RX8 was the same story as the red RX8. I bought it about a year ago. Owner couldnt get the engine going and I bought it extremely cheap. This one exactly the same as yours except its silver. A USDM RX8 GT 6 speed manual. I still drive this car to this very day. Dont listen to the haters and misinformed owners. This car is extremely easy to maintain, it's just different. Excellent car, looking at importing a 2011 R3 from Japan as soon as I'm able to afford it.
@@chrislg4519 Listening to how it cranks is important before buying. You want to hear even, strong pulses while the engine is turning over. Most of the time these just end up getting flooded due to a weak and poorly maintained ignition system. New coils, plugs and wires after deflooding the car and they start right up even with below minimum compression.
really appreciate you taking the time to leave this here cuz i just got an rx8 for an early high school graduation present and the only problem weve had is getting it to start, it always does, it just takes a couple turns before doing so its rarely immediate so tomorrow im about to take a look at the whole ignition system and see if i cant fix the problem
I’ve had a 2004 Mazda rx8 for 12 years. I bought back 2008. The car has been great. I used it on the track for years. I’m still on the original engine. No issues. Not even a check engine light.
I am a RX-8 Owner for almost 3 Yrs now. I never had engine Issues (except for flopded engine 1 time whicjbwas my fault i undoin the ignition back then) its still my dreamcar up today and i enjoy having and owning it. I studied for 2 years befor i actually got tjat car just to get i to know better in terms of issues, how to use and maintain the car. Its stiöl awesome. I onöy had to replace my Cat back exhaust because the stock was corroded to shrimps and was done for there is now a Magnaflow exhaust under it and i also exchanged my coils to AEM ignition system. Ever since then i have a gopd running engine and everything except the corrosion which i wiöö get rid of this year is fine. Keep the car and the channel up bud, love to see more of you and you 8. Greetings from germany!
Thanks, it's good to see some something positive about the much maligned RX8. Mine is pretty much the same as yours, black, the Prodrive version (so I got the lowered suspension already). I had the engine rebuilt and the Racing Beat exhaust put on last winter. It's my daily drive - which at the moment means about 500 miles of British motorways a week. I love it. Best car I ever owned. I've been watching your stuff for a while now, and it's interesting to see, how an 18yo who made a changing a clutch look easy, thinks of the car now.
Nicee. Good for you and happy to see that u still bought it despite all hate the rx8 has. I still wish I had one I love the model and when I will afford one will buy me on just to work on her and drive her on summer. Waiting for next vid. GG
I just graduated HS and was thinking of buying a sporty fun car to drive I am still doing research when I found out your channel and your rx8.the reviews about this car are killing me. they talking how bad the engine is and slow it is. and more bad review stuff, so IDK causes this a sporty car that fits my budgets. nee help, and buy the man nice video dude.

Have had my rx8 for around the same amount of time and have no plans on ever selling it! Those damn ignition coils though!?!!! Next upgrade is to the Ls1 coils
I love my rx8 yes they get a lot of hate but I don't care, and I love my rotary's. I moved to Japan in September, and I brought another rx8 this will be my third rotary. Rx8, Cosmo 13b and another Rx8, I think a lot more people should give this car a chance they are really good.
Im thinking about buying a Rx8 with 2500 euros. Is tge car worth that and how much have you spent on your cars tuning parts aproximately cause i thouhgt i could maje the car look a lot different than it is now
Bro emm can u tell me something about the reliability of the rx-8? Emm how would u compare this car with something which has piston engine? Please compare the reliability.
Hi. You ever had an issue with the power steering on car?? Mine turns normal to left but to right is harder to do. It's not the wiring harness or mechanical part at fault. Have been told it's the PS rack but expensive issue to resolve. Hmm. Thanks
Andy Spinks there are some wiring connectors that plug into the steering rack unplug them clean them then plug them back in that should work. It’s a known problem with these cars. Also rx8club.com has a lot on good info to.
Dam sorry man. Try looking on rx8 club maybe there’s other ways that might help. Also if you absolutely need a new rack try hitting up purelyrx8 part out page on Facebook maybe some one has a good used one for cheap.

I'm looking at rx8s and came across this. At the end said u had the rx8 for 5 years and I dident hear u mention a engine swap. Surley the rotary hasent lasted u 5 years?
It sure has! It really comes down to how you take care of your engine. If you do regular maintenance, keep an eye on your temperatures, and premix, these engines can last for a long time!
@@PeterArmour I'm thinking about getting one as my daily to work and back that's about it. Compression test is the main thing but check it like any other car. Check condition of all wear parts like brakes, suspension, hoses and overall condition of the car.
