    If you’ve been studying French for a while, you’ve surely seen this movie at least once: Le Fabuleux Destin d’Amélie Poulain, also known as Amélie or Amélie from Montmartre. BUT if you watched it with the subtitles on, you probably missed some telling details in the conversations.
    Today, I want to help you enjoy the movie on a deeper level. Let’s get behind the subtitles and really put your oral French comprehension to the test by exploring the subtleties of spoken French in the film Amélie.
    Take care and stay safe.
    😘 from Grenoble, France.

I was very surprised to find "Au Service..." And knowing even a little about the France of the time just made it funnier. "Algerie c'est France." Um, not for much longer...

    I enjoyed and have watched Amélie several times. I think a somewhat similar type of movie, in English, having similar subtle humor, cultural (and other) stereotypes, double-entendre, and the like, would be Stanley Kubrick's "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb". You have to keep the ears and eyes open to catch everything. The screenwriting is just astounding.

    I think that I like the southern French accent. Does Amélie also have an accent? I think that she acts like that because she is very nervous or absent minded. What about the boy who works at the fruit Kiosk? Does he also have an accent? Or the old man?
    I think that destiny is the theme of the movie. That we all have our personal past and present that we are dealing with. Merci pour le discussion.

    • @thierryf67

      Amelie has a light parisian accent, in my opinion. The boy at the fruit kiosk, too, has an accent, different. You know what, in France, everyone has an accent, stronger or lighter, depending on region, suburbs, social class, the background. That's so interesting to guess.

      Why?

      @@skandababy because french government are still colonising north of Africa and African countries by supporting dictators and benefiting from the wealth of so called ex french colonial countries in reality these countries are still under french control. The people of these countries are massively suffering from lack of justice health education unemployment and so on .french are very attached to their language and culture so if your beliefs are different from french culture and have different religion especially Islam you do not have a room in that society.french are extremists in a way but french government can not see that in fairness they are nice open minded french people who accept the way you are

    • @skandababy
      @skandababy 3 года назад

      It's interesting how much you wrote about France, and how horrible they are for "supporting" these dictators. But it's curious that you never said one single negative thing about the actual dictators. If you are so pissed off at the dictator, then why are you wasting your time here on RUclips, pretending that France is some how culpable? Why are you not focused on these dictators? Why are you hiding away, and pointing fingers at a foreign country in Europe that's (ostensibly) "supporting" the dictator? Are you afraid? Are you unable? If you can't do the job yourself, then be a man, and admit it. Stop this charade of blaming other people, everyone sees right through this behavior. If you are looking for help, this is the worst way to get it.
      Through work and travel, over the years, I've spent time in every northern African country except Libya. And one thing is certain, there is nothing western or "French" about these cultures. There is not freedoms of speech, religion, sexual orientation... the list goes on and on and on... So you're going to stick to these transparent claims against France, you should know those words will fall on deaf ears.
      Instead of crying and making excuses about those who "support" the dictators, be a fkn man and deal with the actual dictator. You're so busy crying about France, but these north African governments would NEVER allow the freedoms and acceptance that you would enjoy in France... no matter WHERE you are from. Stop blaming the west for the corrupt governments you speak of, by doing nothing, you YOURSELF are supporting these dictators. We all watched as the Arab Spring removed so many dictators from their lofty positions in the M.E. So your arguments have no legs to stand on. No one wants to hear these sob stories or excuses and ill placed blame. How can you expect others to do what you are unwilling to do yourself?
