Great video, Luke! I gave in as well on Black Friday, but definitely don't regret it so far. Can't wait to travel with this thing!
Thanks!! Glad you enjoyed it! I KNOW, I actually got a Black Friday email from them I was like “you’re kidding me” “best sale every. 🤦🏼♂️
@BeyCinema Do you mind sharing how much you got it for during Black Friday?
@@KBog it wasnt much of a discount, $550 excluding taxes 😭
hahah bro this was EXACTLY what i was looking for. great review, thanks for the comedic relief. looking forward to more videos from you bro. great energy and charisma
Oh good! Glad it was helpful! Thanks man!
Cool video! I wouldnt get it for myself, as I actually dont like the design, but I can imagine it fits a lot of travel kits very well!
Thanks Lukas! Fair enough! Totally, the size and shape is really nice for how I use it.
I needed the most tripod to fit in the least space and the PD carbon seemed to fit the requirement for me. The tripods I bought prior to this PD rarely got used because of their bulk and propensity for catching any any loop or strap within a hundred feet of it. I'd cringe at the very thought of having to take them along in the kayak or packraft and they never got used. The PD is such a joy that even the slightest notion of needing a tripod I just take it along. Enjoyed the video....
YES. Same here, I would be annoyed that I would have to bring a tripod, and now I find any excuse at all to bring it as well! Glad you enjoyed it - thanks for watching!
You can actually store the little Allen wrench tool in the included carrying case (there a small internal pouch), very helpful to avoid losing it while shooting!
Is the weight saved by buying the carbon fiber worth the increase in cost? I'm torn between which one to get. What made you choose aluminum outside of price?
That's a good question. The carbon fiber is 2.8lbs and the aluminum is 3.44 lbs.
I didn't get it because weight doesn't matter THAT much to me. I'm primarily going to use it for my wedding work, and for photographing around the city for my personal work. What mattered most was the size and look for me because and extra pound won't really effect me for how I would use it.
I think if I was going to be traveling a lot, and using it primarily for travel, and I have to put that in my backpack all the time and hike 5 miles, I would probably get the carbon fiber, because that is a pretty big difference.
Thanks for watching!
A couple of other companies are giving Peak Design a run for their money offering similar tripods (with improved design) at a lower price.
That's true, I haven't seen any that match or improve their design though IMO. I like the lines of this one.
Which are those? I am in the market for a tripod and would like to compare / contrast before i pull the trigger.
@@maddyma4293 Heipi 3-in-1 travel tripod
good gawd. no one even mentioned the iphone holder! AWESOME.
It’s excellent.
Ha ha. So funny. I also didn't realize it came with the phone mount when I bought it. Ended up using the phone mount more than the regular mount. For more serious work you can get the standard ball head mount and replace the Peak mount with whatever you are currently using. I'd probably use tape to secure the wrench. You don't want to lose it because it also works on screws. I'd suggest a replacement phone mount and a replacement wrench set. They're not very expensive. [Tip: When setting up, open all clips at the same time. Reverse when closing. Saves a bit of time.]
I have the carbon fiber version and it is light. Much lighter than the Gitzo carbon fiber I have.
Should have gotten the ulanzi coman zero. Much cheaper and similarly built. Even better in some ways
It’s a pretty good option, but doesn’t look as good IMO, and I don’t like the head and plate attachment.
Have you seen the HEIPI tripod?
I have! Looks like a great option. But I will say I like the looks still of this one more IMO
Damn it! You pushed me over the edge…I’m buying it!
haha you're welcome.
I‘m coming from 10 years with a 29€ Hama tripod, now buying the carbon Peak Design :D
No shade, but just too expensive for me. I'm willing to be slightly inconvienced for a greatly cheaper price.
Totally get that. Ha that’s true, Ulanzi has a similar one that is cheaper too. But I didn’t like it as much. Thanks for watching!
Yunteng VCT 999 for less than $40 with free shipping until you save up for a more premium tripod...or not...
It's heavy but as stable as my heavier aluminum Manfrotto.
So you bought this tripod over the Ulanzi travel tripod?!?! That’s weird
I did!
@@lukewtcleland make a video of why you picked the Peak Design Travel Tripod over the Ulanzi Travel tripod
At least youre smart to buy a tripod with a lifetime warranty.
That’s true!
Get an L Bracket then you don’t need to put the head on its side.
