Yep into the ocean as well. I don’t care if I get scratches on it I don’t care if I get banged up a bit it’s a tripod. The arca mount is compatible with arca plates and a variety of other arca-compatible plates. The F38 mount is only compatible with F38 plates. Companies want you adopting their ecosystem so you get locked into it and keep buying more of it. If you just stay on arca, you can use anything arca. There are plenty of arca quick-release mounts now, which is fun! But not many are integrated into full heads and tripods for max size and weight efficiency, so you'd need to plop your arca quick-release mount on top of another mounting system.

    I realize the max load on this is listed as 6 Kg. In the real world, what would likely be the longest lens you would feel safe to use with this tripod? 400mm f5.6 and a dSLR or would that be pushing it? I actually have a Pentax 150-450mm lens 2kg +2 kg body. I'm just wondering if that would be a bit too much to ask.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Год назад

      I would think if you’re really getting a big lens and camera body, the travel tripods probably aren’t the best idea. peak design says it can “support” a ton of weight, but the reality of these travel tripods is that they’re legs don’t really spread very wide when fully extended. so long lenses may make it easier to tip over the tripod. I think you’d actually fine with the setup, but I’d probably want to get a heavier wider tripod (although it’s less convenient)

    13:00 Have they improved the centre part? Whole centre part is plastic on the 2019 model and has play, that's a no for me. Have they fixed that?
    I saw a superb review by bigheadtaco where this was a con, his review is 3 months old, but the one he reviewed is from 2019. So nice to see they improved this, like the tool included inside the column.I already have Peak Design Travel tripod Alu, so I will get the Peak Design Universal Head Adapter.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  9 месяцев назад +1

      the peak design has a more solid centre column when extended - less play for sure. I generally use my ulanzi and peak tripods for photos with the ball head recessed.

    • @mtbboy1993
      @mtbboy1993 9 месяцев назад

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis But is it still plastic? I think I will stick with the epak design and just get a different head. Only complaint I have about the peak design travel tripod is the tool is not hidden in the collumn, and the phone holder ha spastic parts so it fails after few uses. And the feet can't be switched to spikes easily have to unscrew them to install spikes. I saw a tripod that let syou turn the feet revealing spikes. That's a neat feature. But I probably won't need spikes.

    I don't agree with their ways of doing things imo. I purchased this tripod about 1.5 weeks before they launched the upgraded version. While I don't have anything from the F38 system, it seems a bit absurd to me that they wouldn't ship out the upgrade to early adopters. It's like... the tripod is so new to the market and they're already making iterations of the product. Initially I was a bit disappointed but after looking into the F38 system, I don't think I'll be switching over from PD capture clip so I remain decently content. It's still a perfectly good travel tripod.
    When I emailed the rep at Ulanzi about the new F38 additions to the tripod, they said I got my discount already for the original tripod. I'm not sure they understood my sentiment. Basically they were implying that with the discount I received, I could be purchasing the F38 additions as an add-on. Here's where I find it absurd. What if I didn't find your video? I wouldn't have known about the 20% discount.
    I don't see how they can justify a discount on a separate transaction as reason for me to be forking out more just for upgrades that should or could have been included as part of the original design.... especially how with the new ballhead, you can remove the ballhead portion to reveal a flat base center column that can be used to mount other items.
    That being said, there's only 1 flaw with this original tripod. You can't shoot overhead shots (i.e. food photography flat image) unless you go into undersling mode... or you purchase an extension arm that mounts to the top of the tripod head; by this point, it wouldn't really fit the idea of it being a travel tripod.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  Год назад +1

      I think the original Zero Y is more versatile because you can add any arca swiss plate and you can even add an f38 plate (without buying the separate head) to make it quick release if you want. with the F38 tripod, you can only use an F38 plate. I don’t consider the f38 and upgrade - just another option for people who want quick release

    In the meantime, I learned they would release this one. Of course, 20% off is not there anymore…. I wrote them about it and they wanted to give me some LED (which I don’t need) and 10%. This was fine, but it was not 20%. They should have straightened this out.
