I recently started making asmr rp videos or whatever the proper term may actually be. I wouldn't have thought these settings would make such a drastic difference over what I had been doing. I tried them with a video I have recorded but hadn't began editing just to hear the difference and holy crap. You earned a sub from me for the help.
Content loudness is -19dB (a normalize might help you; why should you do it? because coming here from most other videos on yt, I have to get my volume from 40% to 70%). Thank you for the updated guide! Edit: right click video > stats for nerds > volume
Have used your tutorials for so long, amazing work 🎉 However audacity has just completely rebooted the compressor system, eagerly awaiting your updates 🙏🏽😭
The most important effect if you are uploading to RUclips is Loudness Normalisation... Which should be done at the very end... You can make your audio as loud as you like but when you upload to RUclips they will reduce the volume.. On the other hand if it's too low they will NOT increase the volume..
love this tutorial. It's helping me repair a number of podcast recordings where the video software muffled my voice but not my guests' voices. Thank you!

Nice & concise, just like the last version!! However, I did notice two changes: in this one, you started with Noise Reduction instead of making it the final step, and during the Compressor part, you don't have make-up gain selected like you did before. Is there a reason for both of those changes? I assume they produce more optimal results, but perhaps it was just personal preference. Thanks again!!
It kinda just depends on your own setup/sound, but I found it didn't do as great as it used to for my audio. It may still work great for others though!
Some video editing software will pan a mono track all the way left. It's kinda stupid, but also stupid easy to fix. Other than that there is no reason, unless you actually have a stereo input.
If you ARE gonna use the EQ settings, I think treble and bass are the best out of the set of options. It's just for my personal audio it usually takes more than it adds. I definitely recommend playing with it though and see how it sounds on your end
@@BizarreVA Ok, thanks. What about 'Real-Time' effects? I know there's some EQ in there, do you use any of that stuff in real-time? Thanks for your input, I really appreciate it!
Hey I’m literally brand new to using this. Why are all of the effects grayed out for me? It says I have to add effects and that takes me to where I have to buy a subscription to some download stuff site
I need help. I have three good mikes and use Sony ACID and Audacity software to record. I have a new windows 11 dell pc and when recording on any of the mikes and using any of the ACID or Audacity software the mikes pick up voice frequencies very well but when recording music or singing the software turns off the mikes. Seems like both software only excepts voice frequencies via a mike. When I take music from a CD then both softwares record all of the music and singing fine just not through a mike. Can you help me?
After doing these steps my audio sounded significantly quieter than before editing so I "Loudness Normalized" it to -13 db. Usually I compress and then loudness normalize but am looking for a better sounding final product. Does the order of compressing and normalizing matter? and what is the difference between loudness normalizing and normalizing?
If I'm remembering right, loudness normalizing will set a threshold for audio peaks so your audio can't be louder than a set amount. Then normalizing is just averging the entire audio to one solid audio wave, which I've usually seen only make it louder
I’m using an audio technica at2020 mic and a usb interface , but in the recording device it’s not saying the mic I have but ( microphone usb advance audio)D which I think is my usb audio interface… is there a reason?
You obviously do not understand how the settings work in Audacity or what they mean.... let me tell you were you went wrong. 1. the Host should be ASIO if people have that option, there are plenty people just like you who do not understand what the difference between ASIO and MME is. MME is a windows host and not your external audio interface, which have ASIO drivers for lower latency. 2. the project sample rate should be what you selected in the windows audio settings especially when you select MME as the host, since ASIO have its own drivers this would not be a problem if you had two different sample rates. 3. the sample format you selected if one that even many audio interfaces do not support, the entry and mid tier audio interfaces are mostly interger that means not ,0000 digits after the comma, interger is whole numbers, which will be less stressfull on the system. You selecting MME and 32 bit floating point is contradicing and overkill for what you want to do. So go to your windows setting look for audio and go into the audio setting and look for your devices for output and input go in those settings and see what you have selected there and use those setting, which will probably be 44.1 Khz and 16bit. if you want higher and if you do not have an external audio interface make it 48Khz and 24bit (interger). If you do have an audio interface go to the audio setting of that device and look for those settings, there you probably will select the same settings, which are 48Khz and 24bit (interger) BUT select ASIO in audacity in the host drop down.

do you know how one would rid of random clicking noises on an audacity audio clip? the clicking noises im experiencing doesnt seem to be coming from me. im thinking it could be the mic or audacity. the headphones/mic i use are razer blackshark take over headphones
I've used Audacity for years and never had random clicking sounds. They've always come from me or keyboard or something else in the environment. Sounds like if you do a test by changing out your mic and/or headphones you can discover the culprit.

Need to update your "Compressor" tutorial. It's changed in 3.6.1
A new update allows you to use the legacy compressor.

Gotta say man. BEAUTIFUL outro. Really loved it.😊
To those talking about a compressor select the "Legacy Compressor" option
Where is that at?
@@the_real_saulgoodman Go to "view" then press "enable extras menu" and when u select on effects it will appear.

The compressor settings have changed, where will I find 'noise floor'?
Thank you so much, buddy, very very helpful!!!
An alternative way of selecting the entire track(s) is to use the 'Select' button located at the bottom of the blue box to the left of the track.
Thanks for the video! Looking forward to the 3.6.1 version :D
Thanks for this! Finally got my lazy butt to play around with Audacity.
Thanks, this has been very helpful! I just set up my first macro. :)
Great tutorial lad! ♥
Hey, great video! I'd love to know more why you're using stereo for audio recordings and not mono? You could make a video about that! ;)
Some video editing software will pan a mono track all the way left. It's kinda stupid, but also stupid easy to fix.

That outro hella clean🤣
They changed the compressor settings, is there anyway you can update that part? i have no noise floor and Ratio is -100 - 100 instead of a 2:1 format
Thanks! You said you don't like the Filter Curve EQ Factory Presets for treble and bass boost anymore. What do you suggest for EQ settings now?
If you ARE gonna use the EQ settings, I think treble and bass are the best out of the set of options. It's just for my personal audio it usually takes more than it adds. I definitely recommend playing with it though and see how it sounds on your end

ooo what change nice😁but i digress it does depend on the voice other than that well done
they changed the compressor so theres no noise floor what shoul i do
Your compressor is different than mine. I have the latest so maybe that is why but there was no Floor option slider=40.
wait nevermind it would be great if you could still do one. Espesial;ly the COMPRESSOR is a lot different there's more settings to it now
Nice!
Does export settings matter or is default the best? thank you :D
very great service
Bro can u tell settings for people who make music covers.
Do you really have to do the settings for each new project or is it possible to save the settings?
Hey man, I just saw this video lol. I didn't even realise there was an updated one. My baddd

Absolutely! Check the pinned comment or link in the description!
Hi!
I'm trying to use Audacity to record my voice, but I'm getting a lot of weird digital artifacts and it sounds terrible.
I'm having some trouble setting up my stereo to actually record into both left and right audios
When i do these settings, do i need to do it every time im making new audio? or does it stay until i change it
How do you ad a full audio music clip? It only gives me 6.5 seconds of it!!!
0:01 from what to what? Nothing changed
w video
everytime i normalize it is loud af! What can I do?

when I use NOISE REDUCTION, nO MATTER WHAT I CHANGE THE VALUE TO, THEN HIT PREVIEW, THERES no DIFFERENCE.
Make sure you're getting the "get noise profile" first for just a portion of the audio
I have a problem with the new version Audacity 3.4.2
The Placyback & Recording Level do not work

Randomly deciding between 44.1 and 48 is the "best setting"?
Don't know if i should LOL or facepalm.
Both for efficiency

You should try testing if you record with the right mic. The name does not matter if you use the intended mic.
UPDATE NEW VERSION
It’s also not showing recording L & R channel just L…wtf lol
If only one mic is used, then the sound is not stereo (L&R), but mono channel(just L or just R)
