Hello! Audacity has had major updates since this video came out, so I've uploaded and updated version of this tutorial ruclips.net/video/5yg3BDIe-r0/видео.html
Word of advice for beginners: try to limit the number of effect you apply to your raw audio file as much as possible. It may look fancy but with mose voices, they ruin the recording. Instead, try to record in the quietest environment you can, that way you'll get the best file to edit. There's really no alternative for this. Also, experiment with the bass and treble but there's a good chance that it might not be good for your voice.
Great tutorial. One thing I'd add that I always do is a hard limiter before anything else, especially if it was a long recording. This is because if there's even one peak like someone dropped something or a door shut, Audacity likes to take that one nanosecond into account and then normalize does jack all. So I do a hard limit with settings at 0 for both input gains, -3db for limit, 10ms for hold and no on the last option. (This is the default, but it is great for chopping off any random point when someone slammed a door outside, or something got knocked over or you bumped the mic. Ideally you'd fix that during recording, but this helps if you missed it. Feel free to tell me if there are better settings than the default I should be using, though)
Thank you. I really appreciate the video. I was getting frustrated that a lot of audacity tutorials were super bass boosted results, so this is what I was looking for
Bro thanks man, been having trouble trying to find some proper settings and most other videos I've looked at doesn't really fit what I am trying to go for except for this one. You helped me a lot with this, especially with a proper simple but easy to understand explanation with noise reduction! So yeah great work man I appreciate it!
Thanks for the informative video! I don't know if anyone's said this yet or if you've already found this out, but when adjusting the sliders like at 4:05 if you left click the slider you can then use the arrow keys to make the minimal calibration movements, like when trying to get to 1.80 instead of 1.79. Thanks again!
Great video! The only thing I might suggest is to do the noise reduction as one of the first steps so you aren't amplifying it through the chain and potentially causing more distortion. Get rid of it early and then adjust your vocals for a cleaner overall output.
Okay okay, I watched the video with the idea: alright, this is not gonna be THAT noticeable, but BOY was I wrong, you just opened up a whole new world for me. Thanks bro, definitely deserves a like and a comment for the algo, appreciate you G!
Thanks Bizarre, I always come back to your video when I have to improve my audios. This is the best tutorial ever. Thanks for taking the time; it has been incredibly helpful for me.
This is awesome Bizarre!!! Thank You So Much! Audio is something I struggle with and this is the best Audacity video on adjusting settings. Thank You So Very Much!!!
Glad it was helpful! Best of luck with your podcast! I've put a new video out today that goes hand-in-hand with this one, to make your life so much easier!
Super appreciate this video! Very clear and insanely helpful! Just getting back to streaming after some time off and looking to do some edits and such for Tiktok/Reels/Shorts so very much appreciated!
This was soooo helpful, thank you so much for sharing. I knew some basics from using Audacity years ago but needed to make some voice over work more professional sounding. This was great as I could pause your video and follow along step by step and the recording was a lot smother after all of this. Thank you :)
Hey man! I love this video, and I am always going back to it whenever I need to edit audio for either my church's podcast, my own podcast, or my RUclips channel. It ALWAYS makes the audio 10x better! Since this video was published, there have been MAJOR updates, improvements, and a BUNCH of stuff happening in Audacity!! Was just wondering if you would consider uploading a NEW 2024 New and Improved Audacity Tutorial on RUclips?! Would get heaps of views and be much appreciative to not only me but I'm sure MANY others. Thanks brother, God bless
The most important setting which should be used at the very end is Loudness Normalisation.. If your audio is too low Y. T. will not increase it. However if its too high they will decrease it to their levels which is around -14 dB.. This can be easily checked while video is playing by right clicking and going into stats for nerds on YT. (third column down)... You could have all the above settings done with the audio loud but when you upload to Y. T. They will decrease the volume.. The same goes for other social media sites.
Man that outro was fantastic! I was like okay the videos over this is usually the time I step out. and suddenly catchy song starts playing. I like oh what is this? and just stuck around to listen to it. Haha good job.
The only complaint I have with this tutorial is the project sample rating you mentioned at the start of the video. If you have the newest Audacity version... project sample rates will not be displayed on the starting screen. You have to go to the Edit tab on the top, move down to the prefences tab, then inside the Audio Settings Tab look for something called Quality and then look at project Sample Rate, then change your stuff there. Aside from that I love this video and its simple and straight forward tutorial :)
Yeah, this video was uploaded like a week before the newest update which switched around a good few things. I'll be releasing a new tutorial covering audacity as a whole since the new update via the channel in the pinned comment
Thanks Bizarre! I wrote down all your info in my notes and can't wait to try. Thanks for putting out such a clear, informative video and not racing through things the way most young people do!! I really appreciate it! !
Thank you so much!! This helped my newbie voice acting auditions alot! Do you recommend these settings for USB mics? Or is there something different I should change?
For the compressor attack time if you press on the blue things that you move around and go to your arrow keys on your keyboard and press right or left to get it to 1.80. i hope this helps!
It was a great tutorial! It was a little difficult at first, with the issue of the rate in the beginning. But I found it the other way around and it's good. Audacity isn't a bad app/software but you make it easy. However, did you have to set these settings every time you do a podcast? Another thing is how do I know what type of mic I'm using? I have a snowball and don't know if it uses the internal mic on my PC. Thanx!
I also mainly use a snowball, so as far as mic go we should be about the same. Also, check out the pinned link that has a video showing how you don't have to follow these steps every single time
Hello and congratulations on your video! I wanted to ask you for some info: if I have an mp3 audio file and I import it into Audacity to modify it when I export it, I always export it in mp3 or to have better quality(?) I export it in wav for example with a setting like: freq.44100 and a 32bit encoding? Or doesn't it make anything better? Thank you!
Great Tutorial as I just stumbled onto your channel. Does this save ALL settings permanently in Audacity or do you have to do this for each recording? (Is there a way to create a profile to lock all this in.) Thanks!
Very helpful video! I'm brand new to Audacity. I like the way this audio sounds and once I start making content I would like to use it for all my videos. I have a question- if I set this up once will these settings save in Audacity for all future projects? Or would I have to go back and edit each new recording to these settings? Thanks Bizzare :) Edit: Nevermind! Just found your next video on the macros. Looking forward to recording. Have a great day friend
Why did you use compression on the audio track when simply adjusting the amplification would suffice and it would also maintain the dynamic range of the audio? Compressing the track actually distorts it causing it to lose dynamic range.

Thank you
For others:
Noise Reduction (Get sound profile, repeat noise reduction)
Normalize (-1dB, first 2 boxes checked)
Compressor (Threshold: -18dB, Noise Floor -40dB, Ratio 2.5:1, Attack Time 1.79s, Release Time 11.1s, Make-up gain for 0dB after compressing)
Filter Curve EQ (Factory Preset > Treble (change nothing), Bass Boost (change nothing)
Normalize (-1dB, first 2 boxes checked)
Enjoy
Thank u so much for writing it down
Thanks
THANK you
Oh man that makes the audio sound super great, and in my newest video I scream a bit and it balanced the levels perfectly
Thanks man
An excellent , well paced and informative video. this is what tutorials should be when you actually want to help people.
Picked up A shure mv7x with scarlett solo interface. WIll these setting still work with this mic ?
Word of advice for beginners: try to limit the number of effect you apply to your raw audio file as much as possible. It may look fancy but with mose voices, they ruin the recording. best settings for my voice on YT! TY so much for making this video!
Thank you! Glad it helped!
Thank you. I really appreciate the video.
I was getting frustrated that a lot of audacity tutorials were super bass boosted results, so this is what I was looking for
Wow finally a tutorial that just provides basic settings without an hour-long discussion of lufts etc Great video.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks, I'm a beginner and a quick run through of what each effect does would be super helpful.
That's a great idea! I'll try my best to get a video out for some great beginner tips!
You get better results if you do the noise reduction as your first step
If you normalize the audio the noise get more level again.
Do it at final step. Try it
100% agree!
Are you sure that it's better to do noise reduction as first step? Someone else agree on this?
I do compressor, then noise reduction then normalise.
If I do noise reduction first it just comes back with the compressor.
can you share the best noise reduction setting? i mean sentivity n all?
Bro thanks man, been having trouble trying to find some proper settings and most other videos I've looked at doesn't really fit what I am trying to go for except for this one. You helped me a lot with this, especially with a proper simple but easy to understand explanation with noise reduction! So yeah great work man I appreciate it!
Thanks. I like the idea of noise reduction later in the editing. This works better than how I was doing it.
Thanks for the informative video! Wow, the best tutorial for Audacity I've seen so far. Thank you!

I really love your ending credit with the song and animation! Keep up the good work!

A very in depth explanation great stuff.
Thank you so much! That really was of help, the boost in quality is noticeable, conspicuous even I would say. Thank you :)

Thank you very much for this tutorial, I still managed to master my. Audio by looking through a couple of titles.
Thanks I've tried this
I normally do the noise profile first
Man that outro was fantastic! I was like okay the videos over this is usually the time I step out. and suddenly catchy song starts playing. I like oh what is this? and just stuck around to listen to it. Haha good job.
