It must have been a VERY LATE '58 to have a T-5, 356B front clip. Not withstanding that, it's a SUPERB restoration!! After seven Porsches over a span of 35 years, to include two Speedsters, it warms my heart to see ANY 356 series car restored.

Yep - I had a 58 356 and those headlights (position and buckets) as well as the video at 1:09 clearly indicate a replaced front clip....

T5 had the more square hood like you’d see on a C. T4 had the rounded hood like an A plus and a different battery mount but it’s the hood that gives it away.

@@mlastname2802 You made me work for this answer. My reference was the (356B style) nose clip that came out on the late 1959 356 series T5. The T5 still had the round hood and fuel filler cap under the hood, like all previous 356 series cars. The T6 came out in early 1962 and had the square hood and fuel filler cap in the fender. The '58 Coupe in this restoration unquestionably has a later nose clip than what it should have... I think we both agree on that. My '61 Super Coupe had the T5 body (round hood).
All that said, if only I could turn the clock back to that era; I'd still have my '55 (3-piece case 1500 normal) Speedster and late '57 Carrera Speedster (pushrod engine, the 4 cam went the way of most 4 cams in the era). In '65 I installed a 1600 pushrod engine in a '55 VW Bug. In late '66, a friend in Porsche Owners Club bought a 550 Spyder to use as a daily driver. I put the pushrod engine in the 550, and the 4-cam in the VW. If I'd had 12 functioning brain cells, I'd have put the ('57 Speedster race engine) in the VW, the 1600 form the VW in the Spyder, and turned my '57 Speedster back into a true Carrera. Any idea what THAT car would be worth today?!?!
Send me an email and I'll send you a picture of that engine in the VW. carlynneracing@sbcglobal.net

@@carlmclelland7624 man you’ve had some amazing cars. And I stand corrected as your info is 100% correct. I’ve been away from the research I did 15 years ago when I missed out on a 62 B. I’m a bigger fan of the A but I should have given the guy exactly what he wanted. Oh well, I’m having a 912 motor built this winter for my 66 bus so at least I’ll have that to look forward to. Cheers!

@@mlastname2802 alternatively, the people who made the video mistakingly called the car a 1958 model. It probably is a 1960 - 1962 356B. 35 seconds into the video you can see the shifter. That shifter belongs to a 356B and doesn't interchange with the A's. I've owned a B for 47 years. ruclips.net/video/ZqYKEd24wTE/видео.html

@LoloLoco yes, if the VIN says that the car is a 1958, the front and the rear body would be an A-T2 model, built until mid-1959 (I have a friend with an A-T2 #VIN 106721 built in Feb 1959). So now we didn’t know the VIN but I can say that maybe we have (unfortunately) a lot of mistakes on this car.

Early T4 B. Doesn’t matter anymore, they all are super valuable. I’d setup an A, best body style, with C running gear. Unfortunately I don’t have that kind of money.

    This is not a 1958 356A. It's not a 356C either. (single grille). It's a 1960 - 1962 356B. It has a B front and B shifter (35 seconds in). The shifter mechanism isn't interchangeable with As. Check the serial #, ruclips.net/video/ZqYKEd24wTE/видео.html

How can you correctly restore a 356 if you can't even id the car correctly? First thing you check is chassis number which would show it's between chassis number 108918 to 117476 which makes it a T5 made from Sept. 1959 to Sept. 1961. There's no way I will watch a video that can't even id a 356 correctly.

This is not a 1958. This body style did not come out until 60. This is a "B" "c" or "sc"
    Owned a few 356.
    Bent window
    1964 sc
    1960 b
