- Jeremy Hunt sought to turn around Conservative electoral fortunes today as he placed tax cuts for workers and parents at the heart of his Budget.
As his centrepiece, the Chancellor announced a 2p cut to the rate of National Insurance paid by employees.
This will save the average worker an estimated £450 a year, rising to £900 when combined with a similar reduction announced last autumn.
The tax cut will be paid for through a mix of tax increases elsewhere, on business class airfares, owners of short-term holiday lets, vapes and tobacco.
However, other taxes have been frozen including fuel duty and alcohol duty, while the threshold at which parents are excluded from receiving child benefit has been raised.
New “British ISAs” are also to provide an extra £5,000 tax-free allowance for savings invested in UK firms.
Meanwhile embattled landlords received a boost with news that the higher rate of capital gains tax is to be cut from 28pc to 24pc on residential property.

If he doesn't up the tax threshold then more pensioners will pay tax he's doing nothing for them only taking more money in tax when they have already worked all their life paying tax now paying more .
the 2p tax on ni only means we pay it back on income tax as he refuses to increase the threasholds, so we are actually worse off-hunt the great grifter
What about pensions not being an income but retirement after 50 years ? Scrap the tv licence
Up the tax threshold to help those on lower income.
When will PAYE go up its ridiculous
No mention of taxing the mega corporations
CT went up from 19% to 25% for large companies last year.
While also giving a permanent full expensing break to lower taxable profits
Also lowered tax for his rich mates by cutting capital gains tax but no movement on lower rate income tax
@@paullarnecorporation tax is such a useless tool, bring back the top rate of tax to 90%
@@jaykaygxd8497 And watch every big business leave so we end up getting 0%. No, not a good idea that one.
Load of baloney 150k gets 750
15 k gets 49
Where is the fairness if it was the other way round that might do some good if he thinks people on lower wages will vote for them he needs his head looking at
People on £50,270 will benefit as much from the cut as people on £500,000.
I wouldn't call people earning 50 grand rich.
50 grand is well above the median uk income
@@JJeremNot even close to rich though. Anyone who is in their mid 30s and has put time into getting a decent career should be on that or more.
nothing in it at all for pensioners and the nhs needs a thorough overhaul not computers no doubt jezza or rishi have ever tried to get a nhs gp appointment
Labour must be livid. When they win I would like to see if they reverse any of these plans.
It's a JOKE
Digital transformation of the NHS! 😂😂 we know exactly what he means by that😏 straight up doublespeak
These people poisoned there own people, don't forget.
What are they not telling us. VAT Still the same? What are they increasing they never tell us that
I hope Hunts finances are helped..isn’t he worth over £20,000,000
Digitally telling us i have to wait anothet 2 years for my shoulder op cheers aresehole
Cutting the defence budget in a time like this, disgrace.
Dont matte what they promise there toast all pretty much a wasted effort
Nothing for pensioners at all , they sit there looking clever but have failed their most important voters , deserve what is coming to them
Cannot even hear , is the speaker not there?
Not one scrap thrown to the people. This is the final straw - vote Reform. So no tax for his non dom donors? Like Sunak’s wife’s family 😂
Vote Reform, get Tory
Everyone will just increase prices anyway so it won't matter regardless.
Rearranging the deckchairs on the the Brexit Titanic, everyone knows that the country is sinking and has no future.
The UK is doing well and will do much better in the future outside the EU
@@paullarne ??? the country is doing utter dogshit lol
@@BodybuildingSteve Only due to the multi racial nature of Britain.
Cutting NI what a surprise
Snake comes to mind.🏴🏴
Dang I need to move abroad and come back as a foreign person
4 years not paying tax. Who's going to pay to collect there waste. Who's going to pay for the roads they use. 🤷♂️
Not paying tax on foreign assets. They still pay tax on UK income.
@@RebeccawalkswithChrist12 oh ok that makes more sense 👍

Hunt lives in cloud cuckoo land if he thinks the changes here will attract more investment from overseas, it won't. As for the holiday let industry, it looks like holidaymakers will have to have holidays abroad or have a caravan. Hmm! Not sure which one is best. Go and have a couple weeks in the sun or live in a caravan for two weeks in some rain soaked part of the UK. Ooh, let me see.
Updating NHS systems about bloody time. Only good thing in this budget. NHS has lacked scaling techniques through underfunding. Thirteen years of rubbish.
Well answered and respected by what answers not abuses responsibility but makes irresponsible ons accountable cheers governor we can make it
Not a bad budget on the whole though I'd like to have seen the end of VAT on heating now that Brexit allows that.
Really… he’s helped lower taxable profits on corporations by making full expensing permanent and reduced capital gains tax which benefits his rich mates - typical conservative budget that helps line the pockets of the rich while dropping pennies on the working people
@@itaz6276 But remember last year he increased CT from 19% to 25% - a big increase.
no VAT on low carbon heating systems (heatpumps) as far as I know
It's hard to fathom how low and self-centered they have become. Not too long ago, all political leaders in the UK were pledging to assist Zelensky until they spent their last penny. Yet, in the budget presented by Hunt, there is no mention of any special package for Zelensky, nor are there plans to aid Ukraine. Why abandon your brothers-in-arms, Zelensky? Why not allocate funds for Ukraine? These short-term gimmicks are aimed at pleasing ordinary Britons for the election, but what about Ukraine?
With due respect
What has Ukraine done for us ?
I hope there is a ceasefire soon.
Agreed, with all due respect Britain has it's own issues to deal with. Can't be funding a war when we can't even house our homeless and fund our NHS.
Ukraine done nothing for us. We have got to fix our home first
