Avantasia was created by vocalist Tobias Sammet of the German metal band Edguy. It's a metal opera project that has a few core members and uses many guest vocalists and musicians. Probably why it reminded you of Ayreon . This is their brand new song, from the new album ,which I believe is their 9th.
Avantasia (like Ayreon) is a rock/metal opera project. The brain behind it is Tobias Sammet of Edguy. He tends to tell stories over two or three albums. I’d suggest The Scarecrow, or Raven’s Child, both are epic journeys for your ears.

Nice reaction, been meaning to check your channel out as a certifiable Nightwish addict. This song is masterful, and the more I listen to it the more emotional I get for some reason. I haven't been the biggest avantasia fan but this album sounds like it's gonna be my cup of tea. And he put Floor in it to be sure.

Avatasia's singer Tobias Sammet plays the part of the Captain of the spaceship Starblade in the Ayreon album 'The Source', so if you are doing one Ayreon song each week starting from the first album, I think you'll get to that album in around 3 years! :)

Interesting that you said the lyrics reminded you of Terry Pratchett, because one of the differences between Ayreon and Avantasia is that Ayreon plays in a scifi scenario while Avantasia plays in a fantasy scenario. Terry Pratchett is sometimes called the Douglas Adams of fantasy, so Avantasia would be the Ayreon of fantasy.
