at 2:14 Madeline jumps off the spikes after moving towards them. I know that Madeline is able to jump off spikes if going the opposite direction of them, but I don't know how to do it without being behind the spikes of some sort first.
I’m glad you pointed this out; it’s actually really complex. For normal spikes (the white ones), what you said it true. However, for these circular ones (called “spinners”), they kill you no matter what, but have circular hitboxes, and thus they have gaps between them. *Crouched Wallboost Explanation:* Crouching gives Madeline a 4px-tall hurtbox (the part of her that interacts with hazards), but normally when you jump off of a wall, you automatically uncrouch. However, if you do a climb jump, you will stay crouched. Moreover, if you do a climb jump without holding a direction, the game will let you “choose” a direction for the next 11 frames. If you hold away from the wall in that time, you’ll get the speed you’d expect if you had jumped away from the wall. This is called a wallboost. If you do a wallboost while crouched, you can essentially jump away from a wall with a crouched hitbox. This is a crouched wallboost. *What happens in the video:* At 2:14 , we first do an updemo. This allows us to jump off of a wall from at most 4 pixels away until 6 frames after the dash ends; 2 more than normal (this is a mechanic intended to make wallbounces easier). the spinners on the left wall are far enough inside the wall where we can get within 4 pixels of it, do a crouched wallboost, and escape alive. I hope all of that made sense!
This game is very strange :) You can dash through walls of circular spikes (spinners) by doing a crouched dash between them, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. Every tech in this map has an explanation and every part of this TAS does also.
When I first saw this, I thought it was a TAS
wow
When I saw this the second time, I thought it was a TAS
wait, it is not?
@@wenikgmd2371 yeah it's me
@@wenikgmd2371 It is, abiteofdata and I are just memeing b/c we made the TAS
Damn, Celeste is one heck of a complicated game once you start looking into it
Absolutely! Lots of the stuff in this TAS is actually done the intended way :P
Wavedashing is pretty tricky to get down for first timers
But it just feels natural once you get it

@@kirbzsr2064 that was really interesting, tysm!
@@kirbzsr2064 If the jump was done with leniency from the updash, how come Madeline doesn’t wallbounce?
@@ericlee2433 Madeline can climbjump during updash leniency frames without wallbouncing!
Ayy you just hit 50k I watched it happen. Also this was pretty funny
Thanks; just came back to this to realize it has 6k views. No idea how that happened 😂
this is really cool!! :D
Thanks :D
What's the background song in the map? Very catchy. Cool map btw, I love seeing all these crazy tricks back to back.
its from the dustforce ost though i cant remember which song
It’s “9-Bit Expedition” from Fastfall (Dustforce OST)
nice !
Thanks :D
The only thing I learned for this was how to do the 1-up achievement
well I'm glad you learned something :)
The only thing I learned is that I for sure won't be able to do it
How the heck do you go so fast going in-between the challenge courses (idk what else to call them)??
The map speeds up your movement in that area
is that a custom skin?
If only you could mod Celeste on PS4
ikr that would expand the community a lot
how is most of this stuff even possible

never
Sadly he never submits his runs to the leaderboards so they’ll never catch him 😞
