  • You may be able to lower your levels of cortisol with exercise, sufficient sleep, and a nutritious diet.
    Cortisol is a stress hormone the adrenal glands release. It helps your body deal with stressful situations, as your brain triggers its release through the sympathetic nervous system - the “fight or flight” system - in response to many different kinds of stress.
    While the short-term release of cortisol can help you run quickly from danger, when cortisol levels are too high for too long, this hormone can hurt you more than it helps.
    Over time, this can lead to an array of health issues such as weight gain, high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, insomnia or difficulty sleeping, mood irregularities, and low energy levels.

    Never found a doctor that would actually test cortisol levels. They'd just roll their eyes and give you and another appointment for six months.

    The only doctors that will test your cortisol is an endocrinologist. And most don't test it.

    • @gio7602
      @gio7602 3 месяца назад +4

      Theres no point on testing it, cause cortisol doesn’t fluctuate on a flat line throughout the day ! (Unless you have a medical condition like Cushing syndrome will be recommended to be tested in this case). The only way too know if stress its affecting you is by the symptoms, poor digestion (IBS), poor sleep, weight gain, hair loss (telogen effluvium) skin issues etc. and the list goes on.

      He made it sound simplistic but diet can help in a way since people with prolonged stress tend to use up certain vitamins like B1 and magnesium more quickly. There are also certain foods that deplete the nutrients like refined grains and sugar which should be avoided. Diet is only part of the solution so check out "Ryan Taylor (Natural Remedies)" and "Dr. Eric Berg". They have detailed videos that go into this.
