Ham just has no idea how to manage a game. How do you go over 5 minutes without a single score? There should be specific plays in their arsenal to get good look shots or to draw fouls in a way that stops the momentum of the other team. Instead we just had everyone playing hero ball while everyone stands behind the arc and watches.
Some coaches are great in-game adjusters, like Mike Malone. Some are great game-to-game adjusters, like Frank Vogel ('20 Lakers). Darvin Ham is neither. They run set plays for a half, dominate, then inexplicably stop running plays and Darvin just stands there, with his hands in his pockets playing pocket pool. Mike Malone will never say it publicly, but he's running rings around Darvin. It's like a Chessmaster playing a novice chess player; too easy.

It's easy. The Lakers didn't get comfortable like in the past. When they get comfortable with a 15-20pt lead, it evaporates inside 3-5 minutes. Game 2, they stopped playing to win and *played not to lose.* Everything was to prevent Denver from coming back, but in that process they forgot to "keep playing Laker basketball."
Once we got up 20, we were playing not to lose as opposed playing the way we did to get that big lead. They did what they had to do. Now we need to do the same, protect home.
With how shooters can get hot and teams having sometimes 3 or 4 shooters on the court at once, 20 points only takes a couple minutes to overcome. With that said, its still terrible coaching to let it happen.

But when the playoffs starts he is on his feet whistling to his players, working the officials, protecting his players, complaining about every call. In order to win a title or beat the Champs which have the best player in the league a team must have "That Guy" as a Coach. Where does Ham rank among these 16 coaches?

On offense that Lebron AD pick and roll, or Lebron Penetration to the paint and score or kick out, but corner Vando, Top of key Gabe, or wing Dlo have to make their shots, they will be wide open.

Since he just came back he won’t naturally fit in back in the lineup, however I know that his small minutes can be used for energy sparks and his ferocious defense on Murray. Short answer is no.
They've been out of the rotation too long and still need to get back into playing shape. It is a liability to try and work them back into the rotation especially in a must win game. Dinwiddie has been available since acquired and still hasn't really found his place on the team yet. These two would help in just having extra bodies to maybe rest Reaves and AD for a bit longer but may give up more than what they could possibly contribute.
DinWiddie has been bad all year back to the Nets games

3 problems still exist:
1) Terrible ball movement with iso-ball leading to really bad shots: when they go in, you go up and get overconfident. When they miss, ALL of the Lakers rush the next shots and they become even WORSE shots.
2) Darvin Ham is a terrible game manager/coach. He doesn't stem opposing teams' runs with timeouts, he doesn't make adjustments, and he doesn't respond to AD not getting the ball for 8 or 9 consecutive possessions because ALL of the other 4 guys on the court want to jack up ill-advised 3's.
3) They don't close out on 3's, challenge shots, and box out to rebound: in other words, the most important defensive maneuvers.
This offseason:
1) Fire Ham; Get Mark Jackson or Jeff Van Gundy. Maybe someone else becomes available. Coach Bud?
2) Trade DLo and Reaves for a REAL POINT GUARD who distributes the ball
3) Get a real Center (not an All-Star, just a 10/8/2 pts/rebs/blocks guy)
4) Strongly explore trading with the Knicks for Mitchell Robinson.
5) Get a backup TRUE PG to backup the PG we get with #2 (JHS?)
6) Keep your draft pick and draft Zack Edey..

PG: A True pass-first PG
SG: Max Christie
SF: Lebron
PF: AD
C: Mitchell Robinson

I agree! For some reason people seem to forgot how bad Reaves played and everybody(especially DLo) else get hard criticism.
The only issue I have w LBJ in this game and I feel it’s valid is: in the 3rd we were up 20 and LBJ started slow walking the ball up and then not running any offense and then shooting a bad shot. I yelled at the tv “don’t slow it down yet… keep playing how you were playing!”

Let’s focus on game three. Start doing things that lead to winning. Margin for error is small . Rebounding is key.
What’s really frustrating is that we had an opportunity to win both of those games, & we choked (12 points in game 1, 20 points in game 2).
One thing I’ve noticed in games 1 & 2, is in the 2nd half, we deviate from what brought us success in the 1st half.
AD had the hot hand in game 2, & he scores ZERO points in the 4th quarter, & takes ZERO shots in the 4th... How tf?!?!?!
We don’t deviate, the other team adjusts and makes it hard for us and we simply don’t adjust back !
The NBA took foul calling out of refs hands for the last month of the regular season. Then you have one player get busted for betting on games. My guess is they found Refs also and had to shut down fouls moving the needle in games.
Huh? Denver got 2 obvious calls reversed in their favor 😂
2nd half scoring is because the team has a tendency to go into “protect” mode once up and thus they stop trusting the organized offense. Instead of actually coaching, Ham becomes a spectator and won’t get LBJ and the gang back in line. It’s like in football when one team has been aggressive defensively all game then in the 4th they sag off and 21-0 ball game becomes 21-14 in 5 minutes. STAY assertive! That’s literally it that’s all! But Ham is more a friend than a coach to the team. Fkn get anyone out of line back in line and do your job.
We speak from the heart when we believe having Vando and Woods back can make any difference, but the reality is that Denver is a tough team to beat, probably the toughest one. Chances might be a reality only if they continue to play the way they did in Game 2, but more importantly, if they can be consistent during quarters 3 and 4.
Even if we won this series Twolves would win because of the stupidity of our players in the clutch. They see missed shots and forget to be battling for the boards Jokic should never have 20 rebounds that is unexcusable.
@@javarzshinall9396 The inconsistency in the clutch is due to lack of confidence and being afraid to fail a shot then be bad guy in the end. They MUST trust their skills and leadership to either winning or losing in critical moments.
Once Lebron gets tired he turns the ball over. Once AD gets tired he stops fighting for position and settles for longer and longer distance fadeaways. D'Lo is moved off the ball more the closer the game gets and seizes being effective. Austin is so tired by the third that Murray starts getting more and more buckets. I have no idea why AR is on Murray in the first place, when Gabe should be close to 90% by now and Reaves hasn't shot the ball well ever since he started playing slightly better defense.
What I am trying to say is, we are consistent. We consistently lack trust in role players and run our starters into the ground and then wonder why the team that let's their rotation guys play for 10-12 minutes in the third beats us in the 4th. 😂
When Lebron and AD are spent and you take the ball away from D'Lo, this team is about a .500 team and that's how it performs and consistently so.
It should be
D'Lo / Gabe / Rui / LBJ / AD
Dinwiddie / Reaves / Prince / Vando / Wood
And Reaves should be around 16 minutes. Prince should be split with Rui at 24. Vando should get only the non Lebron minutes, because it's 80% Vando. But make it 10 minutes. Lebron needs breaks. Wood should only get non AD minutes. I think 10 minutes as well. Tired Lebron and AD aren't any better than fresh Vando and Wood are.
@@peteranders7106 Man, this is so accurate. We should share this with Coach Ham moving forward. Now, we've gotta be honest ourselves, statistics are there for us to analyze them, but we can't deny the opponent's effectiveness in their execution. I'm still wondering if this is about us, or it is definitely on them. We agree on not being able to completely stop the Joker, but they can lower his individual contribution by double teaming him, and do their best to defend the open men. The rotation Coach Ham has used is not the best, and he definitely has to step up and bring a different combination to give Denver some work to do.
Not mad at all I'm proud of my Lakers. They are playing a team that's been together for at least 3-5 years with the same coach and pretty much the same team. Denver has a great coach and a real system and they run real plays. The Lakers on the other hand, new coaches, bad coaching and we have had wholesale changes every year since we won the chip in 2020; this year being the exception. But I look at it like this. We went to the conference finals last year with a team that was basically new. I wanted Denver and if we lose IDGAF. We been kicking they're a$$ for a billion years. The Sun even shines on a dog's a$$ sometime. Lest get the victory at home and regroup.

I think you start Gabe with DLo and bring Spencer/AR off the bench. AR has played pretty bad too. Of course Ham is a lot like Doc Rivers in that his adjustments are non-existent.

We can make excuses or just be honest Lakers fans. Vando nor Wood is gonna help us in this series, even if both were healthy. Roster construction and head coaching is very important. Can't sign guys like Hayes & Wood, who can't guard Joker and relieve AD of that responsibility. Righteously, we are a Jacque Vaughn, DeMar DeRozan, and a Dwight Howard away from absolutely killing the Nuggets...🤷🏾♂️

The D-Lo play is similar to closing out on a 3pt shooter. You may not foul but you land in the shooters space, that's a foul. It protects the shooter. Same thing with the D-lo play. He should have been protected.

So when you say bench have not produced any points , the problem lies with the coach who is not setting play for them to attempt or score . We cant just blame bench to not able to capitalise the opportunity when the sole reason for them to not show up is becoz of ham unable to use them properly.

They don’t need help … except with learning how to finish and not take shots with 13 seconds left in a two point game. Just do everything you did the way you did it except stop turning the ball over, continue with the ball movement, and stop going away from your game plan late in the final quarters.
