    I offer these these but I don't collect the money. Guest make arrangements with my housekeeper and driver, I just act as the go between. This way my staff get an additional source of income and I am not liable if something goes wrong. It has lead to plenty 5 star reviews.

    This is amazing. I was just thinking about doing something like this with my Airbnb. It’s in such an amazing location...near all the high end restaurants & venues in the city. I’ll affiliate with some of the local businesses, with the goal of making my guests happier & making some commissions from the sale of different services.
    One host I know even has a small “shop” in her Airbnb. If guests see decor or products on her Airbnb, they can go online & buy the exact thing...having it shipped to their home.

My best buddy is an accomplished fly fisherman and would rather fish than work, this has added value for my guests and my friend’s pocket book. Hi Richard .........I've been following you for quite some time as at some point maybe not too far away now, I hope to be doing Airbnb with our own home and maybe others as well. I had a suggestion about a previous video that you made regarding a reservation that you took for a family through a third party, who later wanted to cancel. You said that you had strict rules about that which is fine, but I was thinking that the reason that the reservation came about was because you didn't follow your own rules per say, that strictly. You said that you have rules for yourself and that is to never take reservations from 3rd parties. You bent the rules for yourself but didn't bend the rules for these guests and from what you said in that video you didn't do that out of fear of not renting the property out again during peak season, an important time for the rental of that property. In your video about squatters that you put out a week ago, you mentioned that what a lot of people start to do in Airbnb is they start "to think" about ......what if this and what if that and what about this and what about that?..... and then they make less than the best decisions. It almost seems like you did the same in this case. In the end you won the case that came up with these people and yes, you were right, but to show flexibility is something that feels fantastic. Technically you were right. Rules are rules. But you bent your own rules for yourself but didn't bend the airbnb rules for these guests. If you were to contact airbnb again regarding this case and offer the family something under the understanding that you realize that this scenario could have possibly been handled better. It's hard to be wrond AND have to pay for it while on vacation, and I'm under the impression that that was what these people were hoping for with you, just because we all hope for this while on vacation. We always hope that people at hotels, etc. will forgive our mistakes and mishaps and not charge us for them, and I imagine that these individuals deep down felt the same way. Don't get me wrong, they're not right. I was just wondering if your handling of everything was more based on fear of the yearly financial success of this property and less based on what you feel towards airbnb, people in general and just how much you love being a part of this whole new people/business world that you came across only a handful of years ago. This is just a thought, nothing else. You were right in that case and I'm not trying to diminish that in any way. I love your videos and enthusiasm and over all care about the people involved in airbnb, etc. and wanted you to know that you have been an inspiration to me. I wish you the very best!!!

    • @imrichardfertig
      @imrichardfertig  5 лет назад +2

      ann lore hey Ann, I think either potions of the video were edited, not clear or the whole story missing. I took the reservation from the gentleman’s executive assistant. In hindsight, that was a mistake although a perfectly reasonable booking (for decades, I never made a travel reservation myself - my executive assistant handled everything from planes, hotels, cars, restaurants etc so it’s a valid booking method just not what I’ve learned is best practices on Airbnb. That said, with their recent push into business travelers, wonder how they bridge this gap? Many busy business execs delegate that travel booking to admins).
      2) I gave them plenty of opportunities to cancel long initially and I think there was a breakdown of communication on their end or they didn’t understand the urgency. By the time they decided to cancel, my two busiest months of the year were upon us with virtually no possibility of re-renting to others especially given NYC strict rules of no less than 30 days)
      So...yes, all things being equal I wish it played out differently. That said, fair is fair and Airbnb ultimately did what was right after weeks and tens of hours of calls, listening to calls, reading the chain of correspondence, etc. Clearly if the guest was correct, Airbnb would have ruled in their favor.
      Thanks for allowing me to clarify. And, thanks for your continued attention and support! 💪🙏

      @@imrichardfertig Hi Richard, thanx for getting back to me so quickly! With all that you do, I didn't think I'd be hearing back from you for a while or possibly even at all. I can only imagine the number of emails that you receive on a daily basis and trying to keep up with them must be tricky. Back in 2009 I rented a home on a lake where I could vacation with my family and have enough room to invite up other friends and extended family up to "join in our fun". I remember the owner of the home, whom I still know to this day, was a little on the nervous side when renting to us, not for any personal reason but rather just because you never really know what you're going to get when renting. Later when airbnb came out in 2011, I remember thinking that this is the perfect thing! .....being able to read reviews about possible future guests at your home has got to be greatest thing for home owners because you don't want the owner of the home that you're vacationing in to be stressed out in any way....... that kind of thing can spread and no one needs any more stress in their life. I am really glad that you're doing airbnb and spreading all your wisdom to the rest of us. Again many, many thanks for getting back to me so quickly!!!
      The one thing i"m researching to help with the future airbnb listing of our home remotely, as we intend to be moving at some point in the hopefully near future, is finding a property manager/assistant who can be at the property within a half hour if some personal assistance is needed by the guest. I have 2 people in mind as I like how they work and how they handle things over all. Although they're not actually property managers, I do see them as individuals that I would like "on my team" per say. I just watched your video about remote hosting and what I just mentioned was in the back of my head but I was hesitant about it because maybe it doesn't "sound" right or it isn't "how" it's actually done....... but your video about remote hosting just solidified what I was knew deep down seemed the right way to go............... thanx soooo much for that video as well! I will let you know how all that eventually goes........ I still remember your video about fast drying sheets that I thought was such a good idea..... I'm a big fan of cotton in general and cotton sheets, even sometimes cotton blend percale is a must for me. When you spend a third of your life on sheets, they'd better be comfy, and skin friendly as well! Again, many thanks for getting back to me so quickly. It was a pleasure to hear from you! Hope you're having fun in Costa Rica! It looks really enjoyable.

    OK I have this idea but anyone I told about it thinks I’m crazy. So my property is in a beautiful rural spot. It’s on a picture perfect mountain stream with beautiful trees in an open area. So I found out in my county that you can get a license to be married and use it that same day or up to 60 days later.! so I became a minister with the universal life church LOL and I can legally marry people. I know all the rules about what you have to do afterwards to get it certified. So I’m thinking about offering marriage services from the venue to the bride and groom can stay in the property. Do you think that using the property to marry people is crazy? Edited to add that my county is ridiculously easy about serving liquor I would wholly be allowed to provide alcohol for the event and get paid for it without having to get an expensive license or anything

  • @travelonecuador
    @travelonecuador 5 лет назад

    Here we are talking about making a little bit more of money, with Those additional services. I already tried that 2 years ago, i spoke to good restaurants but they dont care about an airbnb, they care if you send them over a high amount of clients because they are already famous, the same with spas, i tried, the same answer. One offer to give free appetizzer for the Guests but what benefit is that, plus i have to be aware that they know that its me sending them, which take more of my time for an appetizzer sometimes the Guests dont even like. And for transportation, the passengers, copy the number and prefer to negotiste themselve so they can get chipper prices directly with the provider if an uber is not available. How do you handle that when you are not a big airbnb that have hundreds of Guest monthly and the stress and time consuming is much higher than what you get for trying to create a better experience??

    I dont think calling a 5 star resort and asking for tips on how to wow your own guests is very tactful at all. Its like calling competitors and asking for their secrets. Why not just research online?

    • @UnDefinedLegacy
      @UnDefinedLegacy 5 лет назад

      Because tbh even if they stay at a different hotel a resort has other services open to the public that isn't just reserved for guests. Also it creates a rapport what if the person is unable to host someone due to an emergency and suggests the resort? I work at a hotel and have created a rapport with other hotels in the area.

    • @imrichardfertig

      FierceLove&Wisdom this is very common occurrence and it’s called professional courtesy. Happens in many / most industries. If the 4 Seasons called her seeking her advice, she would gladly reciprocate. And, in many cases, she would send the guests directly to the 4 Seasons when appropriate etc.
      We are NOT in competition anymore friends. We are a COMMUNITY and sharing knowledge is exponentially rewarding (RELATIONSHIPS!!). Hiding or squandering knowledge is (at best) linear growth.
