Thanks for telling these women's stories! Storytelling is how we change history; you're bringing them to awareness. Another music industry trailblazer to cover is Estelle Axton, co-founder of Stax Records. She signed and developed artists like Rufus Thomas, Otis Redding, Booker T & the MGs, and Isaac Hayes. She also founded Fretone Records, Moon Records, and the Memphis Songwriters Association.
I have been following you for a while on Tik Tok! Love your chronicles! I learn a lot, even though I am quite the rock fanatic. Like for instance, I knew of Sylvia Robinson and her song Pillow Talk but I did not know she was the Sugarhill record co-owner! Your knowledge is impressive. Thx and congrats from Montreal.
If anything this is what needs biopics. Not to say I'm a fan of how most biopics are put together, but do we really need a reminder of how good Queen is? Share some new stories. Sadly even today a 'out of the blue' movie about a black woman being massively important for a genre like hiphop would still draw large negative reaction.
