Another awesome music history lesson! Where do find all the old black and white video footage from all the obscure bands back in the 50s and 60s? It’s great stuff, thanks for the education! For some reason I had thought Hey Joe was a Dylan tune, probably because I know Jimi did several of his songs, like Watchtower and Like a Rolling Stone at Monterey. “Excuse me for a minute and let me play my guitar!” He was so good. Oh, BTW, Jimi was an Army veteran too, like John Prine and Kris Kristofferson. He was in the 101st Airborne, ie. a parachute jumper!
Great video but as I suspected, English band The Creation have been excluded again. They recorded it in England before Jimi arrived here ( and at the same tempo as Jimi's ).
'Hey Joe' could have been sung by Marty Robbins! Marty Robbins loved tales of lethal vengeance - he was a low-key homicidal maniac! Dark Country music ahead of it's time.
omg great video! please keep up, i’ve been looking for content like yours for a long time
Nice intro !

Fascinating history of Jimi and Hey Joe. Wow! Great research and in depth analysis!
Thanks so much!
Very well done,
Thank you!!
@@raisedbyhippies3792 Sadly I actually remember the day Hendrix died, (Joplin too)
I liked this. Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Your videos are awesome! Keep it up!
Jimi's Smash Hits was the first album I ever bought. I was 11.💟
👌

Props to Croz
Your research is well done! I never realized the depth of this song. Although the song is a continuing cultural message. Women #2😢
Thank you so much! 😊 In my next video I’ll be talking about 5 under-represented women in music, so stay tuned! ✌🏻❤️
The best version of Hey Joe is by a Japanese band “The Golden Cups”.

I played with Dino off and on 70's and 80's and he said he wrote it, that Billy ripped him off and changed it a little bit...but who really knows??
Totally possible!!! I have a feeling Billy's got some explaining to do... lol.
Hey Sadie is for sure the source of Johnny Cash's Cocaine blues.
@@arghapirate2427 you’re absolutely right. Similar themes in both songs
I have to say this --- "Hey Joe" was a stupid, dopey song--what's the fuss?
Hard to say! Maybe it was the subject matter, but more likely it was just a dark folk song with a neat chord progression that people saw potential in.
