    What a good Interview...
    John is a true gentleman
IMHO, he was part of the best band of 80's and one of the G.O.A.T. whoever has chance to hear Alchemy and On The Night will certainly agree with this perspective

In my experience, folks who have an appreciation and respect for music and musicians beyond the "fan" level have nothing but disdain for the R&R HOF. Honors are all well and good - but an organization that becomes overtly self-serving in the process just dilutes the value of the honor. That being said - I owe Dire Straits and those who've contributed to their success a debt of gratitude - they've enriched my life on this planet...

I'm not surprised John said they listened to JJ Cale. The first Dire Straits album bears such a striking resemblance to JJ Cale's "Naturally." It is like each song from that first album is based on one from "Naturally." If you've never listened to JJ Cale but love the Dire Straits, do yourself a favour and pick up "Naturally" and rejoice in the roots of Dire Straits! 😎😎😎

That's a great point. JJ Cale is one of those lesser known musical geniuses. That guy has so many great songs. His greatest hits is loaded with songs. His songs have been done by Santana, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Eric Clapton and others. He has a great sound.

Agree, I saw the BIA tour twice, once at the start of the tour and the second time towards the end. The band were well rehearsed and put on a great show at the first gig, but it was a very long tour (over a year maybe ?) so by the second gig many of the songs had evolved and the band were beyond tight. I've been lucky enough to see most of the top tier acts of the last few decades, and DS towards the end of the BIA tour is still my personal "best ever" gig.

I'd say that "America" (in general) completely understood the song "Money for Nothing", and it got into heavy rotation on our radio stations *because* radio DJ's considered it a dig at MTV. I'm not sure *MTV* understood it, but it's possible they did and just loved that they were mentioned in the song. Lots of free advertising.
