Oh my gosh this was so helpful!!! Thank you, JOE!
Yes I was wondering where you got some of your acoustic style from. Very nice 👍 👍👍
That Gibby has such great tone especially with your drop D meanderings, thanks
Awesome! I LOVE using drop tunings. Very cool voicing options. I love your "heavy chord face" at 2:54!
I forget how beautiful drop D tuning is.....
Love that Major9 chord. Don't know how easy this would be to play but try this voicing (Low string to high): - GEADF#. Since you're barring it, you can move it around to different key centres. With that added 6th (E) in the chord you get a lovely Major 7 (6,9) chord.
Yeow. I gotta get my nails done! Love the video. I was so into Led Zeppelin III with the various tunings. Thank You
Lol…everything is a trick to the talkers….then do the trick🤣🤣🤣🤣!
Wait.. are you in Drop D or DADGAD? You called it both at different times in the video. Sounds good. Reminds me of jamming Chevelle & Godsmack tunes.
So amazing and wonderful sounding, thank you Joe!
I use this ALL the time for flavor, heavy, tasteful ambient chords which sound amazing thru a Marshall amp with gain on 3 and output on 9. My strats especially sound amazing with this tuning and my settings. In ways they aren’t usually known for. Check out Ty Tabor on early Kings X albums doing it. I toured with them a few times opening along with Galactic Cowboys in Dust for Life and my own band Spaceman. Learned a ton back then. Now my solo project Edgewise is using this same tuning as well as dropping the whole guitar down to C or B and Dropping the low string the same way. Getting amazing tones and excited to release my two new albums....
Edgewise - AfterThought. and Edgewise - ElseWhere in June and December respectively. Always watching how you Mix Joe. Helps me remember what I Know while I’m wearing the Creative Hat and then swapping to the Producer hat to mix and master. Thanks man
Talking about extended chords confuses the mouth, I teach guitar so I know. specially when it comes to add9, 9th, and Maj9 chords. I like the Maj9 chord...a proper 9 chord has a flat 7th scale degree. I love Drop D tuning, I don't use it quite as much as I used to when I played modern rock, but I do use it in a my folk writing from time to time. Drop D is often used in Celtic folk also. Great Video!
Thank you for an inspiring video Joe.
I enjoyed your overview of drop D. Nicely done Joe!
The absolute coolest guy on RUclips.
Love droppin that D... Pretty fantastic things start to happen... Thank you sir.
I learned Guitar in Drop Tuning and just recently switched to standart to get better... is a great way
Ok. Thx Joe.
Cool stuff Joe.
Really cool tips, thanks for sharing. I find myself playing in DADGAD more often than drop D, but this gives me some ideas :)
I've made some blues songs in the drop D, the range for it is endless...
Damn you Joe...you make me want to sell my Martin D28 and get a Gibson. I really like the Martin but sometimes it sounds too harsh for solo guitar stuff or strumming, especially when using a pick. If I had both I would probably use the Martin for fingerstyle and the gibson for pick playing.
hey its great to see you working from the small studio space ... although maybe you should invest in a wideangle lens now .. as you were sort of struggling to get the guitar in the frame also it would be a great help if you fixed a spot for the light and the tripod in the room so It doesn't get in the way of your working ..
Totally.
Tool guitar parts 💛
Hey Joe can you tell me if Spirit of the Living God by Phil Wickham is played in drop D and if so can you perhaps do a tutorial on it
Anyone just now getting into alternate tunings, start learning stuff in DADGAD
Hi there, bash bash. Next lesson how to get dings out of your acoustic
Nice !! She wants the drop D
:p
Great stuff Joe. Do you ever use DADGAD? I'd love to hear some tips on DADGAD. I've been exploring that tuning a lot and am always looking for more tips and tricks and chord shapes. There aren't a ton of resources online (that I've been able to find anyways) regarding DADGAD so for the most part I've been figuring it out myself with quite a bit of success. I love the deep tones and drones I can get in DADGAD.
DADGAD, DADDAD and other open chords are cool for playing octaves and dual notes along with drones. I don't know about any particular resources, but you might want to check out stuff about Irish bouzouki, which often uses similar tunings ;) The playing style on both the guitar in open tunings and the Irish bouzouki is quite similar.
Loooove DADGAD. I'm not good enough at it to play ANY song, but it's wonderful for songs in D. ;)
@@HomeStudioCorner I've never had much luck with Drop D so I'm excited to explore your tips and tricks here. I was recently recording a singer/songwriter that was using Double Drop D which sounded really cool too, dropping both the Low E and the High E down to D. Lots of cool sounds all around.
@@adamkowalski6733 Thanks Adam! I love the bouzouki but have never played one. I'll definitely take your advice and dive a little more into this.
@@BrianTheoret I definitely recommend adopting a bit of that playstyle into an open chord guitar. I had one Irish bouzouki back in the day, but sold it and opted for playing DADDAD acoustic instead :D Sounds kinda less mid-rangey than an Irish bouzouki.
You're welcome, pal ;)
I'm still here are you almost ready to work with me? 🙋🏻♂️🤙 Hey buddy take your timeI want to work with you I got a song that I really I want to finish this so I can move on okay buddy I've been watching you your show for just a little bit I've learned so much
I use DADGBD. Double drop D. Just drop both Es to Ds.
YES! I think I've done that before. Super fun
I'd love to know your preferred gauge for your acoustic strings?
Say Joe, do you ever eq your videos? I mean there's always this high-mid frequency which really annoying me, and now it seems brighter and louder then ever...
Just removing that one frequency (and also some high-end frequencies) can really improve the quality of your video
You can do the same eq settings every video from now on because it's always the same problem
Joe, did you get confused saying DADGAD instead of Drop D?
Yes, yes I did.
Recording !
I have 3 outputs , 1. Master and 2 Cue mixes . All tracks are by default routed to Master which i cant undo which is cool , i have no problem there. I can select and unselect the cue sends which is great to give individual mixes , But when i solo a track while recording if the client asks for it , or if we are listening over and trying to finalize the tracks , It gets solo-ed for me on the master but the cue mixes are not solo-ed . This is a VERY BIG ISSUE .Coz then i have to go to mixer select all the tracks and unclick the cue sends of those tracks which i wanna mute .Am i doing it wrong or is this is how it is .
There are very many videos on youtube explaining compressor , but almost none that explain in detail the recording process and i dont mean the micing techniques , i mean the templates for vocals main / dts / harmonies , the FASTEST way to track with next to no obstacles of creating tracks or layers .
I have a yesterdays example , i make a track , was taking vocals , kept on adding layers , but the vocalist wanted me to shift a vox that i had added to layer , but when i do that every layer gets shifted , please can we talk about this .
tune high E to drop D as well
Double Drop D, very cool!
Welcome to the Dark side :)
Why not call add9 what it really simply is: a sus2? ;)
Fear Not
hmm, i know that song.....something about a good father...lol
Actually no!
@@HomeStudioCorner Hmm, ok...I'll have to listen again!
It was "Great are you Lord"
@@HomeStudioCorner Oh! Well you just gave me a great idea for a mashup. Seems they would work nice together. Thanks Joe!
Drop D and Dadgad aren’t the same thing...
Yay, my first first view!
