Been a 49ers fan for many many decades now, and in the team's entire history, Jim Harbaugh and Alex Smith remain as two of my favorite 49ers of all time. Their time together was more brief than I wanted, but, wow, those were happy times.
@@psylee8687 Read it again. I said "two of my favorite 49ers of all time." Never even implied that people like Montana and Walsh and Craig and Rice and Rathman were not among my favorites (because they are).
Alex doesn’t get enough credit for his time with the Niners. Dude was working out with his guys while not under contract during the lockout. Says a lot about his character.
Great story from Alex. As a 9er fan, I knew he was horribly mis-managed during the Nolan era. Jimbo was a breath of fresh air, and sparked Alex's career to love football again. There's no denying that. Two great people of the gridiron.
That is such a good damn story. Lmao. The image of starting QB and NFL head coach trying to break each others fingers while playing catch immediately after meeting each other is straight out of a cartoon
man the crap A. Smith had to endure is unimaginable with the 49ers when they were switching OC's like it was every day of the week. a Legendary Niners QB.....humble and organic.
It's funny how Alex's prior coaches dumped all the problems on him & were amazed that it just didn't work... and yet Jim Harbaugh was able to turn the entire team around with a philosophy of just going out and playing football.
Niner fan since 89. I remember losing some love during the Nolan era to say the least. Harbaugh brought the team back to life. Love hearing stuff like this. Revived not only Alex's career but the entire franchise and fans like myself. I stopped watching when Jed fired Jim until we got Shanahan. Go Niners!
Jim said that if any of his players had children that they thought they couldn’t raise. Jim and his wife volunteered to take the child and raise the child. That’s putting your money and life on the line for your players
Alex smith had an interesting career and life! He should have been the starting quarterback for San Francisco, the year they went to a Super Bowl. , not kapernick! Then he Didn't get his chance at kansas city because of mahomes ! He Went to washington was really in the zone there! And he got hurt! I felt like he reached being a Elite level quarterback, but then never got his shot.!
This is the perfect example of the importance of coaching. Alex Smith career was a bust and created a offense that worked for him and regained his confidence to extend his career.
Calling Harbaugh a Lasso-type figure is so disrespectful to his football knowledge. It's always hilarious when a sportscaster or writer tries to put down a professional in this way as though he would be anything more than a GA on an NFL coaching staff.
Why's that an insult? He's basically saying Harbaugh is 100% authentic even if authentic is a little unconventional. Having been a fan on Harbaugh since Stanford, I think it's 100% true. The guy lives his life like Hallmark card slogans are true. And I respect it because you find in life the sophistication of your values is less important than living up to them.

Peyton Manning told a similar story about Harbaugh. The difference was he told in a "that Harbaugh is an idiot" type of way. While not the main reason, it was one of the reasons he went to Denver rather than SF.

One of the most remarkable seasons in NFL history I think - that turnaround.
Jim Harbaugh saved Alex's career.
Jim is actually a big Ted Lasso fan. Says it's one of his favorite shows. Rockford Files is another of his favorites.
The year that Alex Smith retired, I was hoping the Chargers would have called him in to be Justin Herberts backup. He's a winner.👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😁
Alex Smith at that point was broken goods

What a great guy Alex is
I love Jim Harbaugh
Man shoutout to Alex Smith. I know he wasn’t the greatest QB. But I will say he was efficient and he laid out a good opening for Patty Mahomeboy.

Harbaugh is HFA without a doubt. Watched him on the sidelines during games. Of course so is Belichick. Kaepernick turned out to be kind of a nut job.
It would've been a perfect story if Alex could claim he broke Harbaugh's other pinky finger in those pepper sessions.
"Pepper" yen yards apart? Thats awfully close to be throwing heat like that.
