You never know when you are facing Retribution/Haunted Grounds, which can lead to nasty effects to the survivors. Just remember the spot... The "one person on gens" thing is so accurate tho! I've absolutely known that if I'm not on gens then noone is and they won't get done. We've all had that game where you do a gen, get two hook rescues then get chased and the 2nd gen isn't finished.
Yesterday I was telling someone after game they had to save me from hook , cuz Yknow that’s how u play survivor , you save ur team. After game he says “grow up , learn that you’re not entitled to anything , no one cares about you and that the world doesn’t revolve around you” I was like damn bro I just wanted u to save me off hook .
These people are the kinds of guys who say that they are better than you because their kd is higher meanwhile they get trashed by a better player and their kd goes down to their real kd which is literally alot lower than yours and then blame you for fucking it up while sitting in their mother's basement leeching off of their pension because they didnt want to work
When i play survivor: **gets chased for 5 minutes and only one gen gets done** When i play killer: **chasing a survivor for only a minute** **3 gens pop** ........
A friend of mine got so sick of ruin and noed that he ONLY runs totem perks now. Haha I mean the moment the match starts he rushes at the first totem he finds and pretty much does only that all match. I wish I could say it WASN'T effective. XD He has shut down so many perks.
I only do that if the killer was already on their way to us 🙈 but I'll usually find a dope hiding spot close by and wait til they come and then go and get back on it
I remember a twitch streamer attacking me for doing the gens while I was already hooked for twice. Our teammates were already dead and only two of us were left behind. The killer couldn't find me while doing the last 3 gens. While the twitch streamer was not doing the gens and got caught by the killer and got chased while I was doing the last gen. She got killed as soon as I opened the gate and blamed for me for being useless and selfish. While I finished the game with 38k points. I love how it's nearly impossible to satisfy anyone at all and how they project their own selfishness to the others. Her expectation was me to sacrifice myself for her. We were both hooked. But we still had the chance of doing the gens because the killer was not good. But instead they just want you to be a dumbass who is attracting killers attention. I will never forget her insults for 20 minutes in her stream.
I gotta say Otz I really appreciate this video as a whole. The gameplay added was a nice touch since im honestly the type of person who needs to focus on something to really pay attention, i cant just listen to somebody talk; i inevitably tune them out. And as for the topic of the video itself man, we REALLY need more people watching this since solo queue games are always worst case scenario for me. Survivors commit these sins to often so im glad you're still out here teaching us how to be better, thank you.
@@ctanderson109 it's a no0b3 video! I believe it's called "being chased for 20 minutes" or something akin to that, basically he and a claudette were the last two left against a pig and the pig chased no0b around the map for 20 minutes while claudette pretty much did everything except work on the last gen
God, I play killer most of the time, but I can still feel Otz's rage at these kind of survivors. And I've seen it again and again. Thank you for making this video. Your a pretty influential person in the DBD community, simply because of how wholesome you and your content is, but this video really teaches survivors what they need to do, and how to NOT cleanse dull totems at Rank 1, how to NOT self-care in front of a hook, and how to NOT loop around the gen that 1 survivor was doing the whole time, only for all of your progress to be lost to Ruin. And most importantly, how to NOT blame it on the only altruistic survivor on the team. Again, thank you for this video.
That shit happens to me so much i will literally get chased for 10+ mins with 1 other surrvivor left and they do zero gens when they could've done 2-3 gens
The "dial it down" is something I like to do as a killer: give some breathing time to folks when I keep running into them, instead of just straight up hooking someone twice right of unhook I just slug them for a while (also helps avoid DS), take some time to break pallets in games where there's no key and only two survivors left with 3 gens left, simple stuff like that. I don't get half of that treatment when I go as survivor, but feels better to let people at least try to get some points if I have my pip.
@@justinrobison666 yes omg tunnelers have been so bad recently, as someone who plays both surv and killer it is SO much more fun for both parties when no one tunnels!
Yeah sux when you spawn in with 4 survivors together 10 seconds later killer is on you with little cover available slugging away then got 3 crawling around and he says just do gens after game . Duh would do if we even had a chance to start one . Not a fair start to a game when were in the killers face from the get go
That’s like me but I only really watch out for people who just got unhooked, if they just got off the hook too recently then i’ll let them go and if they get in the way and I accidentally down them i’ll leave them to get picked up while I continue chasing the unhooker/nearest survivor And I also tend to give the hatch to the final survivor if they’re nice or in some cases i’ll open the gate for them and let them out if the option’s available since searching for hatch can be a pain if I don’t know where it is and I feel kinda awkward carrying them on my shoulder around the entire map when im struggling to find it lol
you‘re a great killer, thank you. 🤗💗 we really appreciate that honestly. The other day I was playing with friends and one friend - lowest ranked one too - got downed immediately and then tunneled throughout 3 different games. Like, seriously tunneled, other friend could stand right next to her and take the hit and the killer would still go for her instead when the first hook of a second survivor was like right there. So yeah, thanks for being a good player and not ruining everyone‘s fun
I'm new to the game and I have to say, you are WITHOUT A DOUBT the best at teaching this game. Keep up everything that you are doing. I like how you recommended a patch that made sense and this one that explains the frustrating experience of randys (random survivor teammates)
Something I want to add for running a killer; hold W. It was done to me, and when I incorporated it, I became a much better survivor. Some survivors drop the pallet then run for the next pallet. If the killer breaks the pallet, do not run for the next pallet. Run as far as you can. First, it helps prevent dead zones. Second, it wastes a lot more time. You should still drop pallets when you need them, but if you do this, you need them way less.
I was chased all game, literally 5 gens. Then i went down to noed. While i was on hook 2 other went down to noed. While the killer was downing/hooking them claud walked up to me on the hook and left me to try to open the door where she got grabbed in the process. Killer got a 4k and Claud refused to save me bc i "didn't do any gens or cleanse totems". I was being chased ALL GAME 😐
Lmao I played with this Meghead yesterday who refused to heal me because I wasn't working on a gen with her but I knew the killer had Discordance. So I just said fuck it, I went across the map and did a gen there, the Meghead got caught and hooked twice and dead in like a minute and ended up getting the least amount of points despite another one of our teammates who died at least four minutes before her
I am a rank 20 but been playing in customs so I kinda knew before than some new new players but I went against a nurse who tried to camp last gen. Me and the other person stayed together hip and hip until we lost each other. She was working on one gen while I was trying to work on the gen the nurse was camping at. We won ofc 😁
I was told I was a toxic player because I did one Gen and when the Killer came around me I hid and then went back and did a Gen. I then got caught at a Gen and got killed thrown on the hook at the very end and they left me on the hook. Even though I kept saving them while they worked on Gens because they were two on a gen going faster than I was. I just, wtf, they all got out and they flipped. People need to stop taking the game so freaking seriously honestly. I have at times popped off two gens and no one has done anything. I only play with my at least two of my friends now.
Same thing happened to me. One survivor didnt want me to heal them and only let the other survivor do it. Then when I was their only hope to save them from the hook, they gave up so I couldnt do it like wtf

(without Borrowed Time) Especially if the survivor you saved was on their first hook. Congrats, your save was pointless and now your mate is on their second hook.
that "take protection hits" is so fucking true. i had a game that i only did kill two people because the bill kept saving them while i was on the general area stopping gens or destroying pallets. the worse thing is, all around they were good. its just the bill trying so hard to save people that he accidentally farmed them.
@@ellochickennugget1015 Hey snowflake. First thing about a joke is a joke is always offensive to somebody. In this case, it's offensive to the Rank 1 Nancy that can't play the game.

3:54 Yeah, it honestly baffles me how survivors have the offering to start the trail together and killers have the one to split them up when it’s really good for survivors to be apart
Isn't now because of Circle of Healing kinda good for survs to be kinda close? Like not same gen close, but in the same quadrant of the map. Plus there are killers like Twins that thrive when survs are alone, since it means no protection from their power. Also, if the killer doesn't have gen monitoring perk and gets unlucky 4 survs might get first gen for free before killer will show up.
Starting together at the start of the match isn't too bad,.you can get the first gen done pretty quick and when the killer comes everyone scatters to their own gens
You said keep archives secondary, but in my play time: doing the challenges and rituals gives me a goal during the game (yes, surviving is the primary goal). I'm not a great survivor, so doing challenges gives me incentive to complete them while also trying not to disturb my teammates too much. That, to me, is fun. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but it's also why I won't be making it to the high ranks.
As otz said, you dont need to be sweaty. you can do archives, you can cleanse totems, just make sure you are in a good spot to do them. early game in DBD is the most important part, where it dictates who il have a hard time, and even lose the game. so wasting the early game in totems/archives while you could gain an advantage really isnt the best.
Fast forward to sbmm: literally only have fun as killer when chasing archives. I wish I could stay low rank but since they keep it hidden now, I can never tell if I’m in a sweaty try hard lobby, a completely noob lobby, or a standard one. As survivor, it’s not nearly as stressful, even in solo queue. I still get some terrible teammates but in general it was pretty good... or so I thought, and then I lost 5 games in a row due to noed. Literally, 5 noed killers in a row. I play killer, I sweat; I play survivor, I sweat. Idk how much longer I’ll be playing this game anymore if this is my life
That would mean the killer would be 13.333 meters away in most killers terror radius and they would probably be in sight so yeah saying yeet does make sense
It annoys me when i'm facing a legion with that add-on that makes your terror radius audible whenever you use frenzy, my teammates would waste their sprint burst and hide in the nearest locker
17:44 I agree, I'm glad the game is going more toward build oriented perks, rather than just having singular perks that are ridiculously powerful in themselves.
I remember when my team left me to die. Whenever I had time even if I was injured I would do gens. When someone needed healing I would use For The People when needed or just heal them regularly. I took agro half the game and all the gens were done. As soon as the doors were powered and opened my whole team left me and I died after all I did for them. :(
:(( I only play solo as my friends are too scared to play. It’s discouraging when you do more than your share and then are left to die in the endgame :((

Otz always seems so chill in his videos, no matter whats going on in game. granted, i dont have a ton of time to watch his livestreams, or any for that matter, but its so surprising to me to see him getting upset enough to actually wind back on a punch that hard, id have never expected something like that from him. Not that im saying its bad or anything, hell i usually punch my bed/pillows at least once per DBD session lmao, its a frustrating game at times, its just that Otz seems so zen all the time is all, which honestly kuddos to him for, its not easy.
Kindred is a must have if you're playing solo. I've had so many situations where more than 1 survivor leaves their gen to unhook me... I've also been the culprit in this before as my random team had no kindred! To remedy this issue I use both Kindred and Better Together. This ensures my dumbass teammates can avoid my gen when in a chase. It also allows me to decide who should make a save while on a gen if someone gets downed while I'm working. Kindred speaks for itself, makes saves easier and gives the dumbass team an idea who should save. If only more people used these perks instead of the boring, insecure meta builds that everyone, literally EVERYONE uses.
I totally agree, but I do have issues with Better Together. I love how it becomes a beacon to my teammates but it has problems in solo queue. 80% of the time I use it, my random teammates decide to use it as a way to dump the killer on me during a chase. This ends up happening a lot and I reluctantly begin to pass on using it. Kindred is useful though. I also sometimes run Bond with Open-Handed just to get a personal self awareness of what’s going on. Alert is also pretty helpful.
@@DigitalDogParty24 I love that. It should be called the tactician build. I was in a team once where a 3 man group were going for an Ace perk challenge and I got a 24m boost to my Bond and Kindred! Pity it hasn't happened since...
watching 13:43 is so fun, I can't believe that worked. Thank you for the tips, I've only played killer and it's nice to know that I'm not gonna hop in and try survivor and instantly anger my teammates not knowing how to play lol
I hate how hard it is to play surviver when you get a teammate that sits in a locker or gets off the gen everytime they hear the killer's heartbeat, I understand if its a huntress or a stealth killer(GhostFace) how that may make you shy away from gens, but running everytime the killer so much as breaths in your general direction is annoying and wastes precious time, and people who teabag at pallets are the worst, and usually end up screwing up because they wasted time teebagging, proof that teabagging messes you up is all around you, one time I played Wraith(yes I am a Wraith Main and I can get grabs without needing an easy mode button deal with it) with fast break addons, and every time they would stop to teebag thinking they had time I would land hits on them, long story short they DCed on their first down and said I was a hacker, don't be like those people, just keep running when you throw a pallet, you never know when someone will be running insta break wraith.
are you drunk????? how about you dont miss the skill check as much and have a route to go if the killer pops up im not staying in his line of sight to fix a gen that hes gonna damage amyway
@@joejones8454 Good point, but I big brain and crouch in 1inch high grass right next to the generator so the moment they break it I can tap it, trust me, this works, against 50% of killers, besides ghost face and Myers because they both have infer-red sights attached to their eyeballs.
Thank you for explaining what I’ve been screaming at my monitor for three years. About doing gens together though, when the game progresses, the advantage shifts from survivor to killer. So doing gens together becomes more benificial to shorten that part of the match as much as possible, especially in 3-gen situation endgames or times when you have to commit to the last gen while the killer is hooking someone and/or walking back
@@quackquackx well i think it is rather cocky, if the killer hits you once while you still stay on the gen that is being too cocky, which can cause a camp or tunnel because usually it is deserved.

@@quackquackx i said doing gens in a killers face right in front of them is cocky, not doing the objective. you must be a survivor main like Jesus Christ! if the killer is coming for you from far away, sure do the gen, but if he is right next to you and hits you, you should def get off the gen, that is rushing a gen and taking risky measures.
I understand Otz's frustration and all but he has to look at this from Nancy's POV (regardless of how bad it is) This could be a player that spends maybe 1-3 hours on the game a week. Doesn't pay attention to patch notes or news or anything related to the game and just gets on once in awhile to have fun they don't know the meta they don't know the strats or anything. Otz is a great player but he's also very competitive most of the time. Not everyone wants to play a game to sweat and not all survivors care if they die or all killers care if they 4k. Some people just do dumb things from our POV because in theirs they aren't doing anything wrong they're just playing the game and being immersive.
Except the Nancy was flaming Otz in post game chat as well. I barely play survivors so I’m suck, I know I’m suck. But at least I don’t go at my teammates, who I know are clearly more on point than me, and blame them for losing me the game. Nancy blamed Otz for things Nancy herself did, while Otz didn’t do them
How nancy reached high rank that stupid is what baffles me. Even casual dbd gamers know what works and what doesn't, imagine being so stupid that someone makes a guide on how to not be like you
@@simpletora7313 looking at it from Nancy’s POV still doesn’t make her right. And Otz is far from disapproving of people who don’t run meta perks, he clearly states that at the end about how it’s ok if you’re crushing the opposite sides (as killer or survivor) and decide to give them some room to breathe. Otz himself also runs dumb shit on stream unless he’s playing for a 50 winstreak. And as survivors? He only starts running ds cause some killers recognize him and will tunnel him out and ignore anyone else. If you watch to the end of this very vid, you can hear it yourself what he thinks. He just says stuffs he knows are strong, not stuffs he fully agrees with.
As someone who has played team games casually in the past, I can safely say that any ignorance on Nancy’s part _does not excuse_ her terrible behavior in the post-game chat. And honestly, when you’re Red Rank, people _should_ assume you actually know how to play.
Interesting what you said at the end there. I do sometimes find myself feeling a LITTLE disappointed when the survivor teams are too easy to defeat or when one just gives up and stands there.
I was in a match at rank 17 against a really new huntress. Not even exaggerating, I ran her around for just over 8 minutes, and when she downed and hooked me, you bet your ass I got face camped. Can't blame them for that, but I was upset that despite my 8 MINUTE CHASE, we had no gens done. When we returned to lobby, I said "Why weren't you guys doing gens when I was getting chased?" The guy who got hatch had the balls to say "I was surviving. You died because you're bad, deal with it." That happened over a year ago and I just still can't believe how oblivious this guy was.
Im leaving this comment to say that i love how otz engineered this tip video, he makes himself a bit vulnerable and talks about how an average team of survivors can avoid rookie mistakes and give him a run for his money. I appreciate how he humanized himself here.
I like how this video is purposed to help you become a better survivor, but at the same time he is also sharing knowledge about what to do as killer and how pressuring works. Keep it up, fake Otz!

Thank you! I'm a very new player of DbD but since I don't get to play as much as I'd like to I listen to YT videos whenever I can (for example if I'm not in a meeting and would otherwise listen to music) and try to get better in the limited playtime I have. We all make mistakes of course and that's fine, most competitive games are games about minimizing mistakes. Yesterday however I just wanted to quit. I played with a team of other randoms against a Cannibal which I ran into 10 seconds after the start of the game. Since I'm still fresh at the game my instincts tell me to panic, I clench my teeth and for a moment I think "Fuck the game is already over". Then I pull myself together and tell myself to embrace the chase. I loop like I've never looped before, I hug the walls, I stun the killer. After 60 seconds or so the killer just stands still, looks in my direction, turns away and runs. I felt soooo good in that moment, believing there are at least 2 gens that need to be completed soon. I 'm immediately sprinting towards a gen that nobody is working on yet and start to do my thing. I never miss a skill check, I'm having the time of my short DbD life so far, however I start to wonder why no gens are completed yet. When I'm about to finish the gen I'm working on a wounded survivor runs towards me, "helps" me finish the gen with the killer behind her which switches aggro. Once again I embrace the chase but this time I'm not as calm. Half a minute later he downs me and hooks me and now I see my fellow survivors... The wounded one is chased by the killer again, another one is sneaking somewhere around the killer-wounded couple and the last one is hiding in a locker on the other side of the map. I hang there reaching stage II while the killer hooks the wounded and chases the sneaker. Shortly before I'm sacrificed the locker guy unhooks me. I run off to unhook the wounded survivor because I can see the killer has downed the sneaking survivor fairly away from the hooked wounded. After that I sprint off working on a new gen. And just as I complete it, the killer is AGAIN led to me by one of my teammates. He downs me, hooks me. I'm dead, we have completed two gens and all I can think is: we should have won this. I don't think there is anything to say about bad timing in loops or wrong decisions or not knowing the speed and reach of a killer and misjudging. It happens to all us noobs right? Missed skill checks as well. But this game yesterday... t'was rough xD

Yeah it's fun for both sides if you don't tunnel, I've been tunneled alot lately tho 🙃
Not a fair start to a game when were in the killers face from the get go
That’s like me but I only really watch out for people who just got unhooked, if they just got off the hook too recently then i’ll let them go and if they get in the way and I accidentally down them i’ll leave them to get picked up while I continue chasing the unhooker/nearest survivor
And I also tend to give the hatch to the final survivor if they’re nice or in some cases i’ll open the gate for them and let them out if the option’s available since searching for hatch can be a pain if I don’t know where it is and I feel kinda awkward carrying them on my shoulder around the entire map when im struggling to find it lol
you‘re a great killer, thank you.
Don’t do it survivor mains! He’s tricking you so he gets wins as killer! Keep doing nothing
-Totally not a killer main
Most surprising thing is that Claud actually did gens.

Man is getting 3 hour games lmao

Nancy blamed Otz for things Nancy herself did, while Otz didn’t do them
@@ngocanhhoang2620 I still stand by my point but Nancy was probably a special kinda stupid

2020 has been a crazy year: fires, pandemics, murder hornets, Otz suggesting Deja Vu is a viable perk When will this horror end?
I appreciate the tips, but I don’t know why I heard “Peepee Energy” when you said “PPNRG”
Because that's the joke lmao
@Gamma Kyson Oh, I know. I probably should've hinted I was being sarcastic :/
sarcastic doesnt really work over texts
This game is so incredible it really has depth at all levels of play. You can even get a Harvard degree.
Im leaving this comment to say that i love how otz engineered this tip video, he makes himself a bit vulnerable and talks about how an average team of survivors can avoid rookie mistakes and give him a run for his money.
I appreciate how he humanized himself here.
if you don't, a. lead the killer to your teamates, b. block my escape route, then you're fine in my book
The better title would have been how to not get reverese chainsawd while hiding in a corner and playing as quinten
That rarely occurs unless you're in red ranks though.
@@C0urne yeah in red ranks its pretty common

What if I told you that your stupid plan failed because the killer is Legion
Must be a Dwight main.
@@longTilde killing your character I see.
Anyways, it's a fucking legion, what Is he gonna do, give me free BT? lmao
@@yegud852 i am a p3 dwight main and i loop killers for 5 gens minimum
I like how this video is purposed to help you become a better survivor, but at the same time he is also sharing knowledge about what to do as killer and how pressuring works. Keep it up, fake Otz!
Absolutely fabulous! This Nancy is legendary! He should do some duos with her. So we can watch his blood pressure go up and His NaceyTSD kick in.
“Let’s be honest, 11/10 killers run ruin” 😂
Imagine if undyings totem would glow in a diffrent colour, so its just about finding it first and not guessing which one might be undying.
But that defeats the entire point of undying
@@beebob2877 bruh what? the new undying how it is now defeats its point even more then. My idea would just take away the luck factor of finding undying first. Now it doesnt matter at all anymore which totem is cleanses first
this man literally came out here making a video to tell us about pp energy
Otz, your punchlines to the very real points you make are fantastic. Never change, please.
