This is the problem with people living out their home fantasies through your work, they all wanted to be like they envision it; self involved people don't' recognize that it's YOUR property , YOUR money and YOUR vision of what YOU want. So ignore them and carry on.

I have a suggestion for your problem of matching new and old oak in the library. It is a technique called ammonia fuming, ask your carpenter about it. It involves placing the new oak in ammonia fumes, the stronger the faster it works. I use Janitorial strength ammonia from the hardware store. Woods like oak have a lot of tannin in them, which when exposed to air and sunlight over years turns dark, which is why old oak is dark. Ammonia will do the same job in 24-48 hours as 200 years of normal exposure to air. It can be done on raw wood or completed projects, on a single stick of oak, or a whole room at once. The color change goes deep into the wood so repairs of nicks are simple, just sand and re-wax. It goes through finishes, so you can do it to things like the kitchen cabinets even now. I suggest you try an experiment, take a small piece of oak and suspend it in a jar with some string, put a cm of ammonia in the bottom, do not let the oak touch the liquid, let it sit for a day and take it out an put some Osmo in it, you will be amazed.

Outstanding! I just love to watch people with talent and imagination bring their vision to the light. Both you and your brother won the gene pool when it comes to imagination, vision and talent.

You are doing what I would love to do
The cherry wood and original walls etc are fantastic. The bank fittings are beautiful. Wow this is an art form in itself. Just wow

I am in awe of you. You must have a special gift to see things most people can’t. How you chose to purchase certain items years ago, how you can put items together, how you can imagine these spaces is truly unique and amazing!!! 👏🏻👍🏻 well done!

It's your build and stand your ground about what you do! That floor in the library is so amazing, that its still there after all the stuff that has fallen on it!

The coat rack looks great in the space covering the old cupboard.

Of course he can do exactly as he wishes - but, in my head, that blocked-off cupboard is calling for coats and bags!

Seriously! If people are so passionate about how a building should look then they should buy their own to rennovate. You do you Billy, it always looks awesome 🙂

I love the backsplash, no idea why anyone wouldn't. Also as for a spiral staircase.... I couldn't picture it. I cannot wait to see the library once it's finished

Bravo Billy❗Adoring your addition of the oak section with hat/coat hooks, umbrellas/walking canes sections adorning that mini wall of the "convent's kitchen - a kitchen usually the main gathering place for family & friends❗Keep cracking on with your "manly intuition❗♥❗"

Omg! Those library cabinets with the shelves would be amazing in the "cavity" between the two walls. Just a thought.
