- Join Alan to discover a house of split personalities that bore witness to lunacy, attempted murder, and later the ground-breaking work of pioneering 19th-century scientist, Mary Ward. The drama doesn’t end there, as historian Suzannah Lipscombe learns about Castle Ward’s role in Game of Thrones and gets hands-on making swords with the TV show’s armorer. 20 miles away, Nina Wadia joins the team at Murlough National Nature Reserve to search for butterfly larvae.

Susannah is why I’m here. I have learned so much just because her voice is so calming.
I agree completely that is why I'm here to
She's the reason I ever subscribed to absolute history
Love listening to Susannah!❤
I could listen to her forever
Sadly I have learned more from her than any history class 😕
This family would make a great Netflix series. Stephen Fry as the Viscount. Olivia Colman as Lady Anne. Jude Law as Nicholas. Huge Grant as Edward. David Tenant as Robert. Just let me know who the other characters would be and I can cast it for you!
It sure would. I would love to watch a series on the family and estate!
Love this idea! Perfect casting so far. 😊
Perfect choices….I would like to see Helena Bonham Carter in there too
I would love to see this done as a time lapse movie or series- going from the builder of the house through the history and events of the property and family to modern times
I would watch the hell out of this!
These are my ancestors!!!!! My grandparents died before we got the few remaining stories they had over here in the States. Crazy to see how the family resemblance is even still there in all the male relatives. Also crazy to hear the stories for the first time ever accidentally on RUclips! Very thankful to have found this. Also, FYI, the "lunacy" was not bred out, still tons of anxiety, depression, and even some personality disorders on that side of the family.
That father was smart as hell. Force the others to care for his special son. I love it.
Episode failed to point out that lunacy was also used to label someone who was gay...
@@foylepoirot1437 or deaf, blind, or any learning disabilities. It really was a catch-all phrase.
Damn Suzannah isn’t even presenting this she’s only at the end!
Yeah, I would've like her to participate more.
Dr Suzannah Lipscomb et al, I enjoyed this thoroughly, thanks for this doc! She is our most favorite!
Beautiful!
Me and my family have often settled a disagreement with different motifs for our castles.
Yes, mine, too. Decor and architecture can be essential to harmony.
lol my parents too. but my father lost that battle long ago, now my house looked like mad hatter house with mismatch wood floor, 3 different wallpaper and bunch of sticker on wood panelling, my mom is....
😂
Poor Lady Anne. I had hopes when at first I saw how she was at least given half control over the house design and decor. Her husband didn’t even have to allow that. He could’ve taken her and the money and he owned both. But he must’ve treated her cruelly for her to say what she did in her diary.
I DOUBT Mary Ward was doing experiments and catching insects in her best picture dress. Probably something with narrow sleeves, a comfy neckline, no petticoat in a cheaper calico.
That sword fighting part gave me so much anxiety!😰
I can almost imagine a drinking contest with viewers taking a swig every time that docent/guide says 'Absolutely.' It became really distracting after a time. Fascinating story, though.
The host is so wonderful and entertaining!
I love Allen!
Suzanne is why I chose this episode she should have been hosting in my opinion every episode with her lately is a small part at the end
Thought the pic looked very Drunk History and I got sucked in to the past. Totally worth it.
I wish they would have mentioned more about the brothers sister whatever happened to her.
32:06. "Would you like to have a go in the field?" Yes, yes I would like that very much beautiful Suzannah.
Such an incomplete episode. Who was the youngest child the wife took when she left the estate (built with her family's money btw) and what happened to that child? l also would've liked to know where the 2 mills where on that estate since l'm guessing they'd be near that canal near the ice house.
I find myself wondering if this Ward family could be related to Phillip Ward, the husband of Horatia, the daughter of Lord Nelson…
so glad to see bercrow doing something else aside from shouting "ordah! ordah!"
Cool, so I ain't the only one who thinks the Presenter looks like Bercow! Thot I was losing my mind....😆
What! I've been ripped off, sold a fake bill of goods! I thought She was back! She is 29:30
Thanks so much very enjoyable Tons of history and intrigue
Thank you.
The victorian side is most beautiful!
Was waiting for her to say someone else fell down the open manhole!
Hard to believe, Anne had 4 children in 5 years. I doubt I'll research her story, but was it a daughter she took with her to Bath?---Nice to see Alan in a new format.
One would assume so, since there was no mention of them as one of the siblings fighting over their inheritance.
The younger brother was crazy too and terrible at murdering. Now there a ghost in the stairway and in the backyard.
BRING BACK SUZZANAH
Thanks!
What happened to Robert? He sounds like a real cad.
Really enjoyed this. The commentator is awesome.
such amazing narrators ❤️
Very interesting. BUT, if I heard Andrea say "absolutely" one more time, I was going to scream! A good lecturer, or speaker of any type, learns not to repeat the same word or expression over and over!
Absolutely 🤣 I counted 9 times. Edit: Spoke too soon, make that 15.
I have missed you!!! ❤️❤️❤️
how fascinating!
Anybody else catch that the current Viscountess Bangor is also royal historian and author Sarah Bradford?
Funny, I learned recently "Ye" is read as "the" and hearing her diary entry I automatically change it now.
I absolutely love Suzannah!
Lovely of those volunteers to work so hard
Absolutely
"Absolutely!"
The presenter reminds me a bit of Speaker Bercow! 😆
If she says "absolutely" one 👏 more 👏 time 👏. 🙄
I want that necklace!!
Interesting. Concerned about the environment. Interfere with the natural progression of nature.
@ 12:19 Wait... Hold up. The modern Lord and Lady Bangor are BOTH direct descendants??? I thought they stopped doing that in about 1920/30!!!!??? Uuuuuh. 🤣🤣
Can someone tell me the name of the beautiful music at 25 minutes please.. thank you!
Click baited me was only interested and here for Susannah
TBH, I need more from Mr. Paul Livingston and Toby. Just pair them up with Ms. Lipscombe and I'll watch anything they care to talk about! Lol!
Agreed
I wonder what happened to the youngest son, who moved out of the house with him mother and which one of the sons, ended up inheriting the house
Mary Wsrd was often in the Company of Prince Albert. At the Sceintific Evening Gathering. ueen Victoria was very Jealous of her. As Vitoria was always Pregnant. Mary was Slim And she was a very simulating Talker.
The house reminds me of an episode of over the garden wall, where there two aristocratic living in the same huge major but decorate the manor with different style: Georgian and French Rocco
Were are they burried?
The grass can’t really be that neon green, can it?
Why this show keep using Lipscomb pics as covers???#ClickBait!
Exactly. Clickbait.
Right! I just bitched em out too. I got scammed for a click on these old brits. Then I saw she does make appearance later.
They did it again.... cheeky buggers
did they just call a plant WILDLIFE
That has to be the most beautiful blondie I’ve ever seen😍
Read her books!
"'Banger"'... Banging Bangor. Lol
Isn't actress Lalla Ward the daughter of Edward Ward the 7th Viscount of Bangor?
It's not long off before these estates start generating money. The society needs to know which ones to maintain as museums, and spend a lot of money restoring those, the ones which are better as schools, become schools, and the ones which are better as follies, become folly museums. I think it's purple because it's rich merrymint and beautiful. Why have a domineering force? For many reasons, this is one of the houses which needs to be preserved as a museum.
Need a wood chipper for the goss and start to use it as compost. It's like organic coal, you don't burn it, I'm going to use coal to make diamond glass in Spain. Elder Scrolls game is preceded by a series of each Elder Scrolls game up to Skyrim. So, each series or season is different, and I am going to sell it to the largest bidder, could be Amazon, Apple, or Netflix. Gives us 5 years to develop the next game, while making money and generating fans for the game all the way to the game's launch.
Was it just me that had problems with the video itself?
Mary Beecher ward was that her
This episode has really piqued my interest!
what the hell is a viscounts
I only like Susannahs videos yall tried to trick me
so many ads
There's a place in Maine, U.S.A called Bangor...F.Y.I.
......Americans
The classical side is boring!
gothic side is so tacky and tasteless
Shite!!! I think I knew these horrible banger people 😮😮
CHI MIIGWETCH 🧡 🇨🇦🧡

Susannah is my ideal of beauty and intelligence. Marry me!
insanely saturated
They should sell that house to folks who need a place to live, not a summer getaway. Times are changing man, the days of Lord and Lady So-and-So are over. There are too many people on the planet to sustain that nonsense. Things are getting really... interesting to say the least, and "the poors" are getting restless. When the poors get restless they need to be accommodated to keep the peace. Its amazing to see how out of touch the uber wealthy are.
