2:27 The first ever siemens set that got swapped for jamaica yard in 2019 and the first ever r179 for jamaica yard right next to each other. pretty cool stuff
I don’t think MTA is swapping fleets. I truly think this is only temporary and most likely the same reason why an R179 ran on the M line first Communications Based Train Control testing on the Queens Boulevard & Culver Lines for future CBTC operations on the 8th Avenue Line & Fulton Lines. The entire fleet of R160A-2s & R160Bs will remain in Jamaica Yard & the R179s ENY & Pitkin Yards alongside the R211As plus CBTC will soon be active on the 8th Avenue line soon and I believe they just activated CBTC on the Culver Line I could be mistaken. So yea just going to wait and see what MTA decides.
It's not temporary, the 211's will completely be replacing all other rolling stock on the A and C line. They're not many 179's running around so they will be assigned as needed. The D and B will be next in line for the 211's for 8th Ave/ CPW CBTC action.
Great video! I'm surprised it's taken the New York Subway this long to get CBTC fitted. The Elizabeth Line here in London has had it for a while now, dual signalling. So it can run on conventional lines. The Thameslink network has had it for a while too. But good to see, and I'll definitely be photographing and videoing it when I come over in February.
We’ve had them fitted on the most isolated lines like the 7 and L but have recently had CBTC fitted on more of the Trunk lines. The problem is that a lot of the older non-CBTC compatible cars needed to be fazed out of service or move to other lines without CBTC installed.
You all can thank the R211 fleet, in service now, and the impending set still coming, for this! Ha.. I kinda wonder what these will look like on the (R) too. Can you imagine an R179 on Broadway, 4th Avenue and service change notwithstanding, an R179 on the Manhattan Bridge?
What is going on anymore lol. I swear ever since the G started getting R160s the fleets have just been going crazy. This is an exciting time in the NYC subway for sure, maybe the most exciting since 2009.
That is where the 5 car R179 should go to which is the G, but with the R211T sets coming to the G and with 80 new R211T's being built in the second opinion order, I don't know if that will happen.
Are the R179 eventually going to make it off the A & C lines and be put on all of the lines with CBTC? Are the R211's replacing the old trains this point? Cause I know the R179 production has stopped so I am curious to see what the MTA is doing now.

But yeah no fleet swaps are occurring.
They are about this close to find a builders for the R262/As open gangways and close ways for the A decisions iRT lines for the 1 3 6 S lines. Kawasaki Yonkers or Nebraska Kawasaki is gonna building the M9As for metro North .
They don’t need to they got R211As which they also share with the C as well. The A and C are also expected to get a fraction of the Option Order I R211As. This option order will likely be for the B and D Lines.
no way. nah bruh they should put those shits on the B and D lines the R179s ngl its pretty cool and if they still running on the F and M later i think ima check it out
Nope this is not permanent these are going back to the A once testing concludes. The MTA is making sure the CBTC is working properly so their are no issues when 8th ave CBTC is complete.
The (F)act that this is only the second New York City Subway service (after the A train) to use 10-car R179 trainsets is intriguing. How many 5-car 179s are currently assigned to the F train?

I'm excited that both the F and M trains have the R179's in service

It would just make sense to have R179s go to 179 St!!!

How fitting a R179 starting a new route at 179th st.

The G is getting R211T next month too
We got R179 F train before GTA VI
Finally after so long since the R179s tested on the F line but never enter service on the F back then, they are finally on the F line!!
R179 (F) looks (F)antastic!
The letter rhymes will always be iconic lol
Now imagine a 5 car R179 G train
Wouldn't be surprising since it's just a regular ol r179
they are supposedly getting 2 sets of r211as

Where will r160 goes to is all the f line cars be r179
