At the end it's not going out the Superior entry. It's going under the interstate bridge. All ships from the back reaches of the harbor go under this bridge, then they go out the Duluth entry.
Wow so much has changed from gates up everywhere to after 9-11 security has been put up on the dock an crew an everyone has to b signed in an out its vary secured now a days I do work security there but wow how it used to be
Rotary dumper? Never seen a "Tippler" that size I've seen derelict plant for old British single axle coal cars 15 tonnes(?) and seen plant and film of plant for colliery coal tubs 2 tonnes(?) but the only large scale stuff I've seen or seen film of was waggons where doors opened up at the bottom. I used to weigh coal waggons for the National Coal Board (Britain) in the early 1980s. What were the first two(?) lightly loaded waggons for?
It's pretty astounding to think by today's standards the amount of unload time and load time is much faster.. There are dumpers now that can do two or more coal cars..
Shout out to my Hometown! I've lived in superior for 35 years.
I started there in 1988. Cool to see this!
Seeing Zimski a little bit thinner is something I never thought I'd see.
Great inside video of the coal transportation process! Love the rotary dumper part!
Mighty ships
Thank you very much for uploading this. Especially that scene with the rotary dumper.
Boy how things have changed. Its May 1st and the Walter J. McCarthy Jr. hasn't hauled a load of coal yet
this is a super video thanks so much for posting it

I think that second wagon had a sticky load that didn't dump completely.
@@fmnut Ah! Thanks.

Look Look... a caboose.
A what?
I've always wondered how the car flipper thing disconnects and reconnects the coupling by itself...or is that done beforehand?
The cars have rotary couplers and are not disconnected.
Walthers trains sold that in ho scale. Even in 1/87 it is large.
cool
