I love how protective Samantha always was of her aunt Clara. She loved her very much, on screen, and off. Who wouldn’t. This is one aunt, and actress who was super lovable.

Marion Lorne was absolutely perfect as Aunt Clara. She was in 28 episodes, a fortunate thing for all of us Aunt Clara fans.
She passed away after filming the episodes.

Aunt Clara was the only relative of Samantha's that Darren genuinely liked. He got on better with Maurice then Endora.
Aunt Clara was my favorite character, sure her magic doesn't work like it used to but she was still so sweet and she didn't mind that Samantha married a mortal. Also I'd love having Clara as a great aunt. I wish Aunt Clara had more episodes, its sad that the actor died before the 5th season, they could never replace her
I read when Marion Lorne won an Emmy postumaesly Elizabeth Montgomery accepted it, and was very emotional during her speech.
I was under the impression her powers are still there -she just can’t concentrate enough to use them effectively.
I’d also noticed that there were times when she didn’t need to concentrate at all and she just did what came naturally.

@@JohnLee-pt5jz I saw (on TV) Ms. Montgomery accept the Emmy Award for Ms. Lorne. Ms. Montgomery said, "This is almost bigger than she was" and nearly broke down.

Even witches can't escape ageism
Aunt Clara was such a sweetheart. She and uncle Arthur were the only people in Samantha’s family that liked and accepted Darrin. I can’t believe those two other hags are also her sisters. lol
Correction, Saxon C: Throughout the series, Aunt Clara always liked and had a tolerance for Darrin. Uncle Arthur on the other hand liked him at first. In later seasons, he began to dislike him because he became a wet blanket and disliked his practical jokes.
I love Aunt Clara-she’s probably my favorite relative in Samantha’s family! :D But her episodes so often have a tinge of sadness to them: she genuinely wants to help, but so many of her fellow witches (except Samantha) treat her like a burden just because her powers aren’t what they used to be. “Bewitched” never shied away from social commentary, and the Aunt Clara episodes were a powerful argument against ageism! That, plus Marion Lorne’s legendary performance, makes me think that Clara is the best of all. :)

Darrin was great again in this episode. He was not at all bothered at the witchcraft going on in the house because Clara needed Sam to help her. He was always so sweet where Clara was concerned.

When it comes to aunt Clara's personality she was way better than the other witches on the council . Samantha was very beautiful as an actress,in real life too . Uncle Arthur was a wonderful man 👨 as a jokester.
I wish they had an episode where Arthur and Clara appeared that would been brilliant having those 2 cause havoc 😅😅😅

Great episode best part was when aunt Clara said good bye everybody and they disappeared and the room went back to normal. To bad they hadn't made an episode showing aunt Clara in her prime
I think there was an episode where she DID get her full powers back temporarily-Samantha’s abilities are magically transferred to her by mistake, if I remember correctly. And it shows that when she’s at full strength, Clara is a formidable witch indeed! :D

Thank you! I hadn’t seen that one before, so I went and found it. It was so good! Seeing Aunt Clara try on different outfits from around the world and be so happy with her full powers was great. I wish there was a way she could have kept them!

It would be only season three that made effective use of trombones and french horns for the magical sound effects. A very nice touch that should have carried into future seasons.

I love the fish eye lens effect and how Judge Bean (Arthur Malet) changes into his robe.......and why are so many people commenting on whether that actor has teeth or not......what's that got to do with anything?
I love any aunt Clara episode! Such a wonderful sweetheart! I wonder where they got that actor to play the judge. He's all gums! Does he have any teeth at all? They had dentures back in those days. Reminds me of my dad when he took out his dentures just for laughs. I miss him terribly.
Well Endora was around at the time of the Caesars, so he's probably just as old.

Interesting how the Aunt Hagatha character in this episode looks to be quite a bit younger than the Aunt Hagathas shown in other episodes. Different actresses, of course, but it alters the continuity aspect of the character.
No big deal -- Witches can change their appearances at will after all.
When Darrin's mother first met aunt Clara she thought she was strange even though she had a sister that thought she was a lighthouse. Compared to that how is aunt Clara strange?

When Clara cleared the entire court along with the judge, Endora and two witches out, she shown they were outmatched, the end hints she's not as feeble as she lets on.
Imagine, she was doing plays around the turn of the century.

This clip, and episode, has some messages in it that still applies today, the treatment of the elderly. This theme also appears in the episode THERE'S NO WITCH LIKE AN OLD WITCH. In both cases, and in both societies, witch and mortal, it is too often the case that the elderly are shunned, pushed aside, and in some cases forgotten.
All one has to do is look to New Orleans last week and South Florida in 2017 and hurricane Irma. In both cases, elderly people died because of the malfeasance of regulators and nursing home operators. In New Orleans, over 800 people were placed in a warehouse that had no air conditioning. They should've been moved out of the area. In Florida, the Ft. Lauderdale area, people died in a nursing home after they lost power. There was no backup generator, but there was/is a hospital across the street that never lost power, but were never notified.
I believe the laws were changed in Florida requiring generators in key industries, like nursing homes, gas stations, etc.
Sam was right. They'd already made up their minds. She was particularly anoyed with her mother, who just wanted to get it over with.
Even after the verdict, Sam never stopped loving her aunt, witch or Earthbound. In the end, Aunt Clara was her own best defendant, she zapped everyone out of the room, because of her love for her niece.
Loe.and prejudice are some of the themes throughout BEWITCHED.

It's fake Aunt Hagatha. It's the only time we'll see this actress as her. Same with fake Aunt Enchantra. They should have just come up with two other witches instead of reusing the names. Reta Shaw will always be Aunt Hagatha (and sometimes Aunt Bertha), though I did like Doreen McLean as a brief but believable fake Aunt Hagatha in "The Battle of Burning Oak" from season five.
As far as I know. Only Uncle Arthur was Andora's brother. (Arthur said, without you Andora I would have been an only child). It's pretty clear that Aunt Clara is Maurice's sister, so all Samantha's Aunt's are on her father's side.
Which is confusing because Andora came to test Aunt Clara's powers with Aunt Enchantea & Aunt Harriet & Clara said, " You all came together, how sisterly." UNLESS Aunt Clara meant that remark like a Sisterhood?
She couldn´t be Maurices' sister because when these three witches wanted to take Tabitha away from Samantha and Darrin, Maurice came to their help and saved them, when the witches left on Macbeth, he took aunt Clara on a date. You cannot date your own sister.

The use of Dutch Angles in this scene makes it pretty eerie.
it's outrageous that Aunt Clara is being brought before this court. Is there someone that we can complain to so that we can show our support for her?

You don't have to be a witch to have predictors like that bunch come against you meaning harm. You just have to pray you have someone like Samantha that will stand up for you.

This is one of my favourite episodes of this great show. The special effects are on point and I love Aunt Clara and this story. Marion Lorne was fabulous glad they didn't replace her with different actress after she passed away like they did with Gladys Kravitz

I found it strange how Samantha always gave her mother at pass, at how she would treat Clara, let alone Derwood. I would’ve made her apologize to Clara directly after the trial or forbade her to visit ever again. She had a soft spot for her daughter and Tabitha. She should’ve used it to her advantage more.
When the judge was ready to render a judgment without Aunt Clara making a defense? She was assumed guilty before her defense was made. That happened in real life to alot of people.
