I've also played Daemonica and Inquisitor. Love Daemonica, it's super comfy, it could've been another Witcher-esque franchise in its own right, shame it never took off.
I played Numen when it came out. I remember it was really fun to play. I even talked a few friends into picking it up and playing it. I got almost to the end, but never completed it. I tried to play it, about 2 years ago and the experience didn't age well. Now it's janky in it's controls and uninspired in the combat. Game mechanics have really moved past Numen and the story was way less interesting from what I had remembered.
Restricted Area as well. It's by the same people as the ones that made Legend - Hand of God, but it honestly was better. Perhaps just since we don't see that kind of setting a lot in top-down RPGs. Not sure if Restricted Area was already part of one of the videos. Do we have a list somewhere?
Check out Evil islands. Story is pretty linear, but there're some really cool features like aimed strikes or magic constructor you don't see often in other rpg's.
@Niko_R my first crpg in the very early 00s. Great, captivating story and cool stealth gameplay! Magic/Item construction is great too! Too bad magic builds are hard to pull off.
Can you try out Siege of Avalon? It's a hidden gem RPG that recently got re-released on GOG. Very good story (like Baldur's Gate / Planescape) and interesting setting. Also has some cool spells when playing as a mage (which is imo more fun than warrior).
Hey C4G, did you know the Gothic remake is up for physical pre-order? I only found out today that it's been available to pre-order for a month. Collector's Edition is 200 Euros, kind of insane when we haven't even gotten gameplay for the game yet.
I actually didn't know that. Yeah, even though I love the series, I would never recommend pre-ordering anything. Having a collector's edition early is nothing new when it comes to THQ. I really hope the remake turns out to be a good game. I'll be extremely pissed if it's not... Not to mention that it would be a final nail in the coffin for the Gothic franchise.
@@click4gameplayin the meantime you could, maybe, possibly, review Archolos. The project also announced that a 2.0 version will be coming out this or next year, which will add a lot of new stuff and overhaul many systems, including magic, tavern minigames and unique treasures.
I played Inquisitor, but unfortunately, I never managed to finish it despite my best efforts. I agree with almost everything you said. The story is extremely interesting and well-written. The worldbuilding and lore immediately captivated me. However, for the purposes of the game, it is excessively verbose. Much of the text could be shortened without losing any information, so the player wouldn’t have to read extremely long paragraphs that often convey simple ideas in the most complicated way. It’s great for a book, but in the game, it felt tedious. As you mentioned, I would rather read the book instead of playing the game. Moreover, the gameplay is so unfriendly that I didn’t complete the game.
I mostly agree, but I feel like the issue is less that it's verbose, but that the answers of most NPCs are all long and somewhat similar in style. Just like dungeons some more variety with how dialogue is done would have helped the experience.
Grimrock is a modern reimagining of an entire genre of games from back in the day with a bunch of streamlining and accessibility improvements. If you're going to compare every blobber you see to Grimrock, as if that game created the style of gameplay, you're going to place an unreasonable standard onto them. If you're playing a game that adheres closer to the design of the Wizardry, Might and Magic, or The Bard's Tale series and expecting it to be the same as Grimrock you're probably going to be a bit disappointed because those games were created without the wealth of past experience that Grimrock was able to draw upon in order to prevent people from being turned off by confusing design, crude graphics and incredibly harsh difficulty. Grimrock is a great game, but if a game were to be copying any aspects of its design it would be in terms of making the game easier for people to get into, not the basic aesthetics and game mechanics.

Sadly I can't save the game so I already played a few hours, but I still have the urge to play it :) I didn't know they made so many other games too.
I've spend more than 100h in the Inquisitor. Priest (a caster class) with a bow was perfect. Some spells are really cool- like hellhounds or literal pandemonium. Game was hard, but dungeons even harder. I've used to play a lot of "Diablo clones" but never like actual Diablo games except D1 with mods... I wish that this genre went with Divine Divinity path instead of D2- more on the RPG site, but still with lot of cool combat... for some reason in RPGs combat is not that great, especially in AAA segment.
I'm fine with having lots of ARPGs, but it's true that the genre is pretty stale design-wise. There are some interesting variations on it like Sacred and Dawn of Magic, but mostly it's just more of the same with more additions like more modifiers on the items, more crafting, more bandaids for the random loot system and dealing with all of that can quickly become a chore. Inquisitor - for better or worse - is its own thing and manages to stand out, which I can't say for many ARPGs. I played Inquisitor. Actually waited for almost 10 years for it to be released, and in English. Unfortunately while the setting is brilliant I found the combat absolutely awful and tedious.
Not too surprised that you didn't get along with Inquisitor too well. Personally I like how the attrition kind of fits the dark feel of the world, but as you said, for a lot of people the basic combat loop isn't good enough. It's like somebody took the gameplay of Diablo 1, introduced all of these attrition factors and then built a really massive RPG around it. So not that much fun moment to moment in combat combined with lots and lots of it, lots of repairing, lots of potion-buying. And lots of reading of course. Honesty, even though I personally like it, the amount of required potions is ridiculous and the amount of dungeons in the game as well. Less would have been more in both cases as unfortunately there isn't much gameplay variety when it comes to the dungeons. There are a few companions in the game by the way. Early game with the Paladin was manageable with a dog and Paladin to tag along, but they also gobble potions like no tomorrow. The latter is a situation a bit like Vampire - Redemption where you have little control over the ressource wastage of your companions. Except here you can at least easily adress it by simply buying dozens of potions every time you come back to town. I played through the game on Normal (with a Paladin), but I'm told that companions' hitpoints - just like those of enemies - are reduced as well on Easy difficulty. So just a warning on that, but it might still be easier nonetheless. My experience basically was that you need to rely on area-of-effect seals a lot in some situations. Enemy pulling is mandatory as well.
I do really like the idea of having health and mana be a single resource. Personally I think that it would be a better fit for a puzzle game (so, the idea is that you have to deal with the levels in a way that uses your resources efficiently, not necessarily in the fewest number of actions but with the highest amount of points left over by the end to be spent as currency for upgrades in between stages. You could potentially run straight through to the exit, avoiding everything, but if you plan out your movements to allow you to head over to explore a side room you could find a consumable that gives you a net gain in power and certain rooms would be set up to reward strategic ways of doing combat or using the environment to divert enemies away from treasure, etc.) I do think that the first game looks like it could be a blast to play with friends as a kind of party game, a bit like a cross between Diablo and Bomberman.
If you're inclined to make a video about it, I'd recommend taking a look at an older (released in 2000) RPG called "Dispel". If I remember correctly, it's made by a Korean studio (since defunct, and the game itself is abandonware), but it's very much a 'western style' RPG. I believe you might enjoy it, given the games you've played on the channel.
@@cuoreflamante I finished Inquisitor. The inquisition part is completely superfluous as all you do is torture them twice, they confirm what you already knew and get executed. The music is a banger, though. But that seems to be the case for most of cinemax games.
Speaking from experience, the combat system in Inquisitor is god-awful. The only thing seeing me through was the story and exploration, though even then, Act III is bloated as is, and the main city is huge and sprawling in a game where you move like a sack of potatoes.
Honestly it would be fine if it weren't for the amount of potion gobbling and the ridiculous amount of dungeons. I enjoyed getting to the capital and getting to know the place, but there were points in Act 2 and Act 3 where I was just really tired of the game.

I only played Daemonica, but it was good for it's time. I remember liking it a whole lot in that day. Especially the box art. That weird and twisted image on it was neat to me back then. Enough that I turned it into a makeshift poster.
Great video! I might actually try to find some of these, so thanks. If I might suggest some games to check out, then you should look into the other Dungeon Siege games as you've already covered the 3rd game in one of your videos (unless you already got them when I wasn't looking that is)
There is another good little-known RPG, although it is more of a tactic. It's called "Ascension to the Throne". If you are not familiar with this game, then you can get acquainted.
I played Inquisitor years ago but never finished it... I liked everything about the game except the actual gameplay 😀 Are there any good games in this kind of setting? Because I had the same problem long before Inquisitor with Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader. Also loved a lot about it but it never ran well and it had other problems on top of that.

Daemonica in czech language is wonderful. It has a great story and great voice acting. I love the game and would love to see a remake with reworked characters, because imo some of them lack depth and last 2 chapters are a bit rushed.
inquisitor: Done..Not a bad game but it's more of the same. 3 acts and the same. I don't remember if you tried Soulbringer??? It was special, pretty good but the gameplay was, like I said, special.
Both Inquisitor and Soulbringer are really one of a kind though mechanically Soulbringer is more interesting. Still, kind of hard to compete with Inquisitor when it comes to music, atmosphere and art.
Played Daemonica in my childhood. I m actually a big fan of reading stuff as i m usually reading a lot faster than the voiceover, and the voices only make me lose my pace. I have inquisitor on gog but it s crashing all the time. Well it was, haven t tried playing it in years. Also i remember Numen and i think i played it as it seems familiar but boy i played so many rpgs through my life:))
I also wanted to like Inquisitor so much but everything was so slow it was irritating. You should check out Shade: Wrath of Angels (2004). Its made by Bohemia Interactive, the studio behind ARMA series. Also a Czech game.
I actually quite like the look of the combat system of Numen, it makes me think of the combat in World of Warcraft. I would actually really like a fleshed out game like WoW but single player, it makes sense to me to have combat like that especially when there are a lot of possible abilities (I don't know how many Numen has though) because I'm roleplaying a character who CAN do that stuff, when the combat is more direct it brings my own skill into it. Yeah I could "git gud" but my reaction time just isn't fast enough sometimes lol. If the game is fleshed out in lore, world design, abilities, possibilites etc I do not think a tab targeting auto-attack with click-to-cast abilities system of combat is too bad.
I’ve played a few rpgs, but over the years I’ve been really getting into them. as a casual rpg player who doesn’t care for graphics or over polished games no matter the genre, is there any game on this list that’s worth playing?
Inquisitor feels like it wants to be Planscape Torment, but with game play of Diablo. Lot of people praised the story/setting so much, they urged to push past bad gameplay. I've read there is a nice novelization in Deluxe edition that adds to the lore.
Everyone should buy and play inquisitor. It doesn't matter if you use cheat when you are on the 4th level of the dungeon with all equipment broken and without potions, just play it.
for 2€?? no brainer, go for it personally i do think its a hidden gem dont know what it is, but i played it and liked it (love would be too strong of a word used on this game) and i still do like it. For 2 euros, i think just buy it
Damn, I just finished Daemonica and ngl i wanna see more of their work... this cheap witcher vibe really hit me in the spot. Maybe it could be remastered as an indie game by someone, heck nowadays ai can also voiceact it... and mash it all into unity to make the game more expansive...
You would probably love the story in Inquisitor as well, although I don't know about the gameplay. It's pretty rough, to say the least. Daemonica at least had a very simple, but functional combat system, that happens every now and then. But you're right about the Witcher vibes. That was the first thing on my mind as well. The sequels for the Witcher did a lot of things better, but the dark/horror atmosphere from the first game was unmatched!
Try Drakan. There are 2 of them, first game released on pc, the second one on ps2. Barely anyone knows these games, but they are pretty good, eepecially the second one.
I remember inquisitor....people said it was pretty hard game for most classes but priest...it strongly reminded me of diablo 1...but unfortunately I never got to play it(I bought it though) Numen I played on steam a long time ago...good game reminded me of a third person titan quest but I only went up to the middle of the game(played as a spellcaster always) and stopped don't exactly remember why ....the game is not available on steam anymore?? Have to check if its there again.
I've already played Inquisitor, bought it motivated by its art style and music; actually I don't care for clunky animations very much. But what made me request a refund for this game was the lack of balance and quality of life features. The map is too big to navigate, it has no town portals, items can't be stacked on inventory and battles are a health potion competition. Even so the potential is there; if the game was moddable like an Elder Scrolls title, it could become something very special.
Oh yeah, and Abomination - The Nemesis Project might be interesting as well, but it's less of an RPG and more of a real-time tactics game in a top-down apocalyptic dystopia. Abandonware of course.
Completely impossible. Have you looked at the amount of text in there?!? It took them like three years to translate all of that. Also, like Pillars 2 it would probably just lead to having tons and tons of pretty generic, forgetable voice-acting.
@@burningsheep4473 I can dream... There's a TON of dialogue in Telltale games with great voice acting! Maybe they could make Inquisitor but as more of an RPG than a hack and slash?
Huge fan of BG1/2 and also Fallout 3 and NV here. Tried Fallout 2 recently and just couldn't. How long I need to play this until it starts to be fun? That char creator looks super promising...
@@hah-vj7hc Actually, I enjoyed F2 a lot. Yes, the start is a bit slow. But thats good, cause you have time to level up, get geared etc. to get you prepared for main Q. I personally think, I spent more hours in F2 than in F1. F2 is bigger and may invoke the feeling of being a little "lost" in the game right at the start of the game. But that was my impression back in days, when game launched. I was noob in rpgs :)
@@hah-vj7hc I recommend starting with Fallout 1, because it's a little easier in the beginning and is less than half as long as FO2. Early levels are meant to be brutal to aide the atmosphere, but it gradually gets more manageable and by the end game you're almost unstoppable if you play your cards right.
for me Mass Effect Trilogy is the best of the best. No contest. Although i love BG and BG2 to bits still ME is better. Still BG2 at the end of the expansion, Keldorn sad ending, i mean i cried :) He was bad ass though. Especially with that holy avenger sword Carsomyr i mean holy shit. So yeah BG+BG2 is like borderline with ME for the best of the best, still by a tiny bit ME wins.
Inquisitor started out incredibly strong. Murder investigation in a pretty cool setting and it was even possible to apprehend the wrong suspect. Just give us more investigative games where you actually have to solve stuff. Paradise Killer is one such game, though the low budget really shows and the setting is a bit too wack for me.

8:48 "Andrew Tate wont help me much"
Your sense of humour with your edits... I'm here for it!
@@burningsheep4473 Not helped either by the fact that there is no equivalent of a "Town Portal", especially that orc dungeon, Fuck that. Try having fun going back and forth, back and forth multiple times in a row.
@@swedichboy1000 There is, but not for the Paladin.Though I think you can use the Magical Boxes for that as well.
I dont know what u smoking Numen is a hidden gem :). Seriously i think Numen deserves that. At least for me it does. I like it. Finished it. and Intend to finish it again. And maybe then ill wake up from that fever dream :). And see really for what it is a janky mess. But i doubt it.
Czech Republic Let's go
Janky Jank Let's go
Thanks, you're doing a great service for youtube.
I fkn love inquisitor
Your reare obsecure rpg games are great it's so interesting seeing how rpgs evolved over time or all the different concepts in different rpg games. Keep up the good work mate 🤙
- Arcanum of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
- Lionheart Legacy of the Crusader
- UnderRail
- Divine Divinity
- Temple of Elemental Evil
All good games!
Your videos are always fun to watch, and I like how you explain things straight to the point, rather than rambling on about useless things like some other RUclipsrs I know.
I really like the inquisitor style, it sits on my wishlist for few years now but I always find something "better" to play
I only played Daemonica, but it was good for it's time. I remember liking it a whole lot in that day. Especially the box art. That weird and twisted image on it was neat to me back then. Enough that I turned it into a makeshift poster.
Great video! I might actually try to find some of these, so thanks.
If I might suggest some games to check out, then you should look into the other Dungeon Siege games as you've already covered the 3rd game in one of your videos (unless you already got them when I wasn't looking that is)
The keep actually looks pretty good
I still have the original disc for Necromania at my parents place. For what it is it is a fun little game. But my favourite part was the soundtrack.
I played Inquisitor, and I actually didn't mind it. But yeah, it is very janky.
I forgot about Necromania. I never played the full game, but I do have fond memories of playing the demo.
There is another good little-known RPG, although it is more of a tactic. It's called "Ascension to the Throne". If you are not familiar with this game, then you can get acquainted.
I was going to say you should play Inquisitor, love the game good story, janky gameplay and pretty hard.
Bill Cockton of Absurdia?.... Ok I am now a diehard fan!
Yeah Soulbringer, definitelly he should go for it.
You should really try to play Xanadu Next.
Will do! I like how it looks, and it reminds me of YS a lot.
@@click4gameplay It's also a Falcom game so your feeling is as correct as possible.
Damn...NUMEN...What a great game. Still got it at original physical box from release. Glad to see more people appreciated it :-)
I’ve played a few rpgs, but over the years I’ve been really getting into them. as a casual rpg player who doesn’t care for graphics or over polished games no matter the genre, is there any game on this list that’s worth playing?
now this is the content im looking for
Inquisitor feels like it wants to be Planscape Torment, but with game play of Diablo.
Lot of people praised the story/setting so much, they urged to push past bad gameplay.
I've read there is a nice novelization in Deluxe edition that adds to the lore.
The first game looks a lot like Blood Omen. I've never seen that graphics style anywhere else.
Cinemax? 🤔
Feels like that could cause some legal issues
But isn't the movies comp written with 2 x's?
Steambot Chronicles is obscure as well!
Everyone should buy and play inquisitor. It doesn't matter if you use cheat when you are on the 4th level of the dungeon with all equipment broken and without potions, just play it.
lol at 1:16 he says necromaynia and 3 or 4 seconds after he sayes it completely different necromania 😂
I think i remember playing a Daemonica demo, i im not mistaken it reminded me of Dungeon Siege, at the time.
The Inquistior looks cool!
Yep difficulty sure went up since I grew up as well.....
Don't know if you played before, but numen contest of heroes is a good pick for this series.
Inquisitor makes me sad. I do like the game quite a bit and the setting is pretty cool, but the jankyness is out of this world.
Numen is (incidentally) on a huge sale price (€2) on Steam until june the 8. I guess I will try it.
for 2€?? no brainer, go for it
personally i do think its a hidden gem
dont know what it is, but i played it and liked it (love would be too strong of a word used on this game) and i still do like it.
For 2 euros, i think just buy it
Looking at the list of their games, about 1 in 5 are known entities, and probably sold well, funding the others...
Amazing video as always, long live RPG
NICE THIS WAS THE GOLDEN ERA OF PC RPG
I need to finish Inquisitor
Try Drakan. There are 2 of them, first game released on pc, the second one on ps2. Barely anyone knows these games, but they are pretty good, eepecially the second one.
Where you ride the dragon? Great game, but use TWO savegames lol. Dont be like me and hit quicksave while falling off a ledge smh
@@hah-vj7hc true, these games require some saving discipline :)
I remember inquisitor....people said it was pretty hard game for most classes but priest...it strongly reminded me of diablo 1...but unfortunately I never got to play it(I bought it though)
Numen I played on steam a long time ago...good game reminded me of a third person titan quest but I only went up to the middle of the game(played as a spellcaster always) and stopped don't exactly remember why ....the game is not available on steam anymore?? Have to check if its there again.
I've already played Inquisitor, bought it motivated by its art style and music; actually I don't care for clunky animations very much.
But what made me request a refund for this game was the lack of balance and quality of life features. The map is too big to navigate, it has no town portals, items can't be stacked on inventory and battles are a health potion competition.
Even so the potential is there; if the game was moddable like an Elder Scrolls title, it could become something very special.
Necromania looks good.
lol. as a srw series fan ang gamer this is relatable. lol. i am going to bet almost everyone here never heard of srw.
How about fear and hunger?
Maybe not realy obscure but interesting for sure.
Oh yeah, and Abomination - The Nemesis Project might be interesting as well, but it's less of an RPG and more of a real-time tactics game in a top-down apocalyptic dystopia. Abandonware of course.
I wish someone would re-release Inquisitor with full voice acting
Completely impossible. Have you looked at the amount of text in there?!? It took them like three years to translate all of that. Also, like Pillars 2 it would probably just lead to having tons and tons of pretty generic, forgetable voice-acting.
@@burningsheep4473 I can dream...
There's a TON of dialogue in Telltale games with great voice acting! Maybe they could make Inquisitor but as more of an RPG than a hack and slash?
Next time you can try Legend Hand of God
Are there mods that make some of these games more playable?
Best rpg for me: Fallout 4, 1, 2, 3. Witcher 3, Skyrim, Baldurs Gate 2, and last but not least - Dungeon Master 1, 2
@@everx7 I love the Mass Effect trilogy, though I wish they weren't so inconsistent. Still my third favorite franchise from Bioware!
Numen is an AC Odyssey on a tight budget
those graphics though!
I did play inquisitor.... too much reading hahaha
You could try some old games called Blade and Soul and Space Hack :)
Whats the game on 24.30 and before?
Necromania looks realy similar to Dark Omen legacy of kain
The keep was ok, i almost finished, some reason i culd not kill last enemy
13:26 xD
from where is the sound of the intro?
I seemed to see that as the graphics and gameplay improved on the timeline, the stories got worse. Thanks for an interesting vid.
Pssst @click4gameplay I have a rotten gem of a game for you to play and feedback on if you're interested, possibly the most overlooked and underrated (arguably) entry in the Ultima series. Ultima VIII: Pagan. Give it a whirl, you won't be disappointed ❤
Inquisitor best game in this list !
I like these random rpgs
I played and liked inquisitor, but you could say that I am partial to the setting and atmosphere of the game.
