Hi Bald, I'm french and have used those MRE during my military service time (a long time ago in 1993, but it was already the sametype of MRE's....) and really appreciate your reaction on this.... Our Army take meals very seriously because "hey, we are French!!" and food times are REALLY essentials to us!! haha! anyway, great vid and a new subscriber to you!! ;)

Superb review that brought back some memories of my time. The ration packs we had were amazing, boil in bag steak in gravy was the best. Everyone would pack there rations in there kit whilst breakfast was cooking, and discard what they didn't want. I used to swoop in and get the yeast extract and the tabasco sauce, I still have some bit's with my kit. Looking forward to seeing the British army review 😎👍

Rat Packs..... took me back to when my brother would bring left over bits home. Cheese and jams were fab and in tubes , the chocolate cake (a rare treat) was heaven. Chicken supreme tasty. Biscuits were solid. Dad would love to get the leftovers even the biscuits! (Dad was WW2 from the 'phoney' war to 46 , brother a reservist from 18yr old till they retired him!).
Bless you for serving your country Gareth, it is not an easy days work. The bonds you form with fellow servicemen don't break. My Dad kept his friendships going with 6 colleagues and one of his Captains until old age took them. My brother has 2 good mates he sees regularly. You need good people in your life.
Let's hope others send you rat packs..... I have a nephew who works from China and Malaysia... He gets seconded to their navy etc and his food choices are very limited he survives on rice. And confectionery, etc. He loves good old fashioned British food, doesn't even do bolognese, curry, or spicy stuff. His tales of service food are interesting.

When I was little we used to go on picnics make a fire and cook... Pre dated BBQ lol hence my love if fires.
These packs are a winner and I can think of many situations they would be really useful ie the storms we had with power out in Scotland few of those as a standby would have got hot food and calories down.
I bet it tasted even better outside in rain.
Enjoyed the Quiz having only been out 9 times since March 2020 due Covid restrictions and other health issues it made me feel like part of a group of friends having fun instead of same old 4 walls of bedroom so TQ

Hi Gareth hope all’s well. That was a very interesting glimpse into the meals that The Forces foreign and British had (and other 24hr supplies) it was great you went outside and put the wee cooker to use. I had a couple of cousins that were in The Royal Irish Rangers a long time ago, must be about 35yrs and 30yrs ago now. The closest I got to rations was when I went on a break with school on a camping and rambling thing, must’ve been a few days away. It was fun but not worth the blisters 😂

    Hexamine blocks.
In the US they use flameless ration heaters which you put a thermostabilized retort pouch inside and pour in water, there is a chemical reaction which produces an exothermic reaction that heats up the food in the retort pouch.

Great vid. Had these rat packs out wild camping. Also ex forces, puts those small tins for spaghetti and dehydrated savoury mince in ours to shame. The meals in tins are usually heated over the heater and there's a small foldable pan holder to use. Looks good that menu, enjoy.

Absolutely loved this video👍👍 its a little insight of what food was like for me dad he was in the army from 17 n stationed in germany hes not much of a talker about those days bless him hes 68 now so im guessing the ration packs were a bit different back then but just hearing you say its taking me back and having a good smile on your face about it makes me think there was some joy in it all altho ill never understand the stricked regime of alot of things but im guessing it makes a better army (disciplined) 🤷 thanks for this and im gonna ask me dad if he knows cheese possessed haha

@@BaldFoodieGuy i asked him about the cheesed possessed and no it wasnt a thing when he was there but he did say he had pate but the rations compared to nowadays is off the mark n soo much more lol i cant believe how i never new soo much he went through i mean he just told me he went to war with northern ireland 4 times n was shot at multIple times n he was armed with guns (a machine gun ffs) im in shock right now i really am coz to me hes my dad that was in the army years ago and has single handed brought me and 3 siblings up on his own yet his has a massive past i never new about im literally in awe of him more then i ever was hes always been my hero but to hear what hes been saying about the war he was in hes a hero full stop😢 and all the rules and regs he had to endure is mind blowing, id have punched them in the face if they'd sed that shit to me haha he was just 17 on his first stint in the war against NI 😭
