I think he's just fed up with life and the way things are going in the world and if it continues he just assume be taken away from it.
My interpretation is he wants to go back to a simplier time. Home being a time that you feel comfortable with. Although certainly "Lord take me home" does signify Heaven.

I think you can interpret this song in two ways. Home can mean going back to heaven. Home can also mean a place and time in your life that made you happy and made sense. That’s why he says he didn’t know which road to take because it’s been so long.

As someone else already said, “home” is heaven in the song. However, here on Earth in this life we are currently living, home is where you make it. It is a place in which you feel safe, comforted, and loved.
I've said this before. Oliver brings " Tears and Chill Bumps " to almost everyone. The first anthem you can hear and feel his anger. This one you hear and feel his sadness. His song " Virginia " is a whole lot lighter mood. Thanks from this Virginian.

Irena, never apologize for showing your emotions, emotions make us who we are. Your interpretation of this song comes from your heart and it is tough leaving your home and moving to a completely foreign land, and there is always a longing to return to our roots and friends we left behind. This song does have religious overtones, and when Christians speak of going home, they are speaking of their home in heaven. Having said this, this is equally a song about his mental state, and wishing he could return to better times and a better place. It doesn't have to be one or the other. I admire you and your family for the courage you've shown in moving and making a home for yourselves here. I also know there will always be a longing to "go home".I wish you the very best life has to offer.

We are not so different in our hearts where it really matters! I pray the Rich Men North Of Richmond who are making the rules and decisions in my country come to their senses before it's too late. Very few of us here in the U.S. are in agreement with our so-called governments past decisions and misdeeds, and if we can not put our petty differences aside and regain control of the ship, we are doomed to repeat the past mistakes of senseless wars that none of us working folks want! If it wasn't for my wife, 5 kids, 4 grandkids, and 5 dogs, i'd wanna go home too. This song hits so hard, it really is sad, that people would rather, go home, so to speak. We only have a short time hear, male the most of it, instead of being like a lot of people nowadays. It really sucks right now. But on another note, love how your frenchie is so calm. Our frenchie is not 😂 she's a nut. She is so hyper, love how is snoring even though he isn't sleeping. He sounds like one of other dogs. She is an english bulldog american bully mix.
