Guitar: 1969 Jose Ramirez, ex Segovia (www.guitarsalon.com/product-1...)
Here's Irina Kulikova playing Chopin's Vals No. 7 on the 1969 Jose Ramirez that Andres Segovia owned and performed on from 1969 until 1980. Recorded at the Guitar Salon International showroom in Santa Monica, CA.
Huge thanks to the folks at Apogee Electronics (ApogeeDigital.com) for the use of their Ensemble interface in these recordings.

Wow this is an incredibly challenging piece and she plays in marvellously. The tone, expression, everything is so well done
Finest playing I have ever heard, and I'm a professional.
Best guitarist i have heard so far. I completely agree. Please check her interpretation of barrios la catedral, seems ridiculously easy and flowing
Wow she really made it sound like it was written for the guitar!
My new favorite video!
I agree!
As someone who watches endless guitar videos, there has to be something special for me to stick with it to the end. This is certainly one of those.
It is hard to believe there are any dislikes on this video. Even if you don't like the piece or transcription, this is modern classical guitar playing at the highest level. A surreal level of technical and musical mastery. Bravo maestra!
I have it on 'good advice' that the dislikes are the wicked work of the sexists. Damn those sexists !!
It's possible some Chopin conniseurs didn't like the arrangement or possibly some people didn't like the staccato phrasing. It is masterful playing in spite of any stylistic disagreements.
@@chriseliothernandez I find the arrangement a bit too simplified, but her playing totally makes up for it.
What an incredible sound! Like burnished gold. This instrument and your technique are wonderful.
What a guitar ...
What a piece ....
And
What a guitarist ....❤️❤️
Fantastic. Played with the soul. As an admirer of Chopin's music and a guitar and piano student myself, I really enjoyed this interpretation
Great feeling and musicality , a master at play , the instrument sounds like heaven , the dynamics are masterful , I can watch it many many times !
I can't stop watching it. every morning, all during the day, in the car...
It's a Ramírez guitar, one of the best in the world.
Bravo Irina you made Segovia's guitar sing. Beautiful tones extracted from it. I played this piece on the piano, but my efforts fall far short of your performance. You are truly a master of the guitar.
The best version of this stunning music I've ever heard. Thank you Irina.
Amazing, can’t believe this piece can be played with guitar this perfectly!
Perfect. Absolutely perfect. I can't imagine a finer performance than this. I can hardly even listen to other players these days, Irina is just too good.
I feel the same, just recently discovered her. I cannot stop listening, gives me goosebumps..
Segovia's performance was also great, but in a different way.
@@Olegstuff21986 I just read an interview with her after a performance here in the US and she explains exactly how I hear her playing, how she becomes one with the guitar, her baby and how she purposely projects that soft, non-metallic sound. so she projects a musical and emotional sound that in addition also catches your attention and pulls you in. it did exactly that to me.There seems no effort at all with the technique. She is truly amazing, very hard to listen to others after listening to her. I saw Segovia in the '80s and then his last concert in NYC. He was great and he would have been very very proud of Irina.. there are many great recordings, but very few actual performers like her...
AMAZING!
Truly wonderful! Makes Chopin's Vals sing on Segovia's guitar! Thank you!
Excellent melody of Chopin.....excellent guitar sound, plus, excellent Irina. In one word, everything was excellent.
Exquisite!!! Both the playing AND that wonderful Ramirez.
I don't know if there is anyone that can better Irina as a classical guitarist. I would confidently rank her in the top 1% of guitar virtuosi today.
number 1 in my book. There are many technically great, musically good but she grabs you as an audience. I am not sure how many times I listened to it, but I have to play it every day. Preferably in the morning and at noon and finish with the California Suite...I can't let it go...
May not be, but this is sweet too: ruclips.net/video/0_RnlOWmZD4/видео.html
I agrée. She is technically perfect. I would comparé her to Horowitz in piano. She Matter si perfectly her technique that she can express the beauty of music. Thank you to RUclips that offer us all kinds of performers, bad or good.
And so expressive...😍💗
Her guitar is of a very high quality make, last year she recorded a playing of this piece with a different guitar, with better video and audio quality however this version, according to the views remains more popular.
Such a wonderful performance of a very complicated piece
Очень чисто,точно и с полным, тотальным контролем инструмента. Нет слов. Очень проникновенно. Спасибо.
Aside from her sheer technical brilliance, her phrasing and musicality set her apart from every other guitarist I've heard. The music informs the technique.
Holy moly, I haven't heard that guitar for so many years and never in such HD recording quality.
Well. I am very glad l subscribed to her channel. Her playing just floors me.
I have never heard playing like this. Astonishing.
Por Dios, no le erró a una sola nota.Hermoso como toca y esa guitarra, qué sonido más placentero.
I am baffled. At first i was like this is ok, then she shredded my face and melted my heart.
Amazing performance. Love the sound of that guitar, and every note sounds lovely.
I bought this guitar or its mate...It is the deepest sweetest classical ive played. I had a Ramirez and it didn't even come close to this. I played it for a year straight on my back after major reconstructive spinal surgery. I added a pick up to play w my group. Its been a big part of my therapy and recovery. ❤
Musicality and technical brilliance in equal measure. Wonderful.
OMG Irina... a gorgeous piece of music played with the requisite artistry & passion.
Simply masterful performance! This beautiful arrangement sounds like the piece was written for guitar!
Her style is unbelievable. Very talented guitar player 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Irina I played this piece on the piano, but it never sounded as good as your performance with this incredible guitar. Thank you so much for bringing me such joy. I enjoy it often.
Wonderful performance by Irina!!! Had a '71 signature Ramirez I purchased direct from Ramirez. What a marvelous pairing with Ms Kulikova! Bravo!!!
Fantastic playing! And an expressively convincing transcription.
That ascending run in the B section gives me chills.
What a delightful sound. Thank you soo much for sharing this🙏💯
So beautiful!
Wow.. she gives a polish piece of music written for piano sound like it was meant for guitar and even has that classic Spanish/Arabian sentiment! NICE!
Great! Superb guitar, wonderful performance!
БРАВО!!!
En sevdiğim gitar sanatçılarından biri, saatlerce dinleyebilirim.❤️👏🙏
This is absolutely beautifully played.
So beautiful! great sound.
Perfect technique with incredible feeling. Holy Moses!!!!!
This and your Tansman are just so lovely. Bravo!
Wow. Absolute control of timing and tone. Pure sound with no extraneous nail or string noise. Exceptional phrasing. All this with what looks like smaller-than-average hands and (I'm assuming) a 660-scale Ramirez. Hats off!
I totally agree with you! Oh and it's a 664 scale so it's even more impressive lol She's incredibly good!
I think partly thanks to this guitar, the 1970's was a golden era for Ramirez guitars. I have played guitars from most makers and the one I keep going back to is my 1979 Ramirez.
Enjoy! Yup- have a ‘78 1A Blue Label. Great overtones and characteristic high action. Have heard the late 60’s models stamped with either AM or MM are especially prized. Oh well at least I have mine.
Amazing! Absolute Perfection!🔥🔥😍
Wow, now that is a bit of a masterpiece from this lady , impressive
Awesome piece and guitar playing! All thumbs up!:)
I've listened to most of Segovia's recordings, and for others who also have- we recognize that guitar anywhere.
👏👏👏
that was astounding!
superb....excellent nuance ...technics and performance......i wish you my best...!
This is one of the best things ever played on the guitar. No exaggeration.
Good GOD!!!! i have never seen anyone play like that.......i am in LOVE. That guitar...oh yes.....thats a special one and it sounds like it.
Leveza, sonoridade, sentimento!! Bravo!!!
Guitar Salon! I tell you. You must upload these transcriptions somewhere. Classical guitarists around the world need them. Please
I support this request haha. I'd love to at least try to play this
One of my favorite performers. She is fantastic.
Oh my gosh. Amazingly done 👏
Why, why so many dislikes? She is great.
I think Segovia would be proud to hear his guitar played with such mastery, and he might be a little jealous too!
I agree that Segovia would be proud and probably more than a little jealous - let's face it, that performance was Top Class 1A. Absolutely wonderful and I've watched it many times it's sooo intoxicating.
For all those who dogmatically abhor cedar tops take a listen/look at this beautiful, lovely maturing instrument. For lack of a better analogy (like a fine wine) these instruments have the benefit of being 'the gift that keeps on giving' as we can open that case anytime whereas with wine you have to leave the bottle corked.
@@Skinny_Karlos I don't know about jealous, Segovia's interpretation is magnificent as well, but in a different way.
@FÜHER FROG I disagree, his style is still unique. Guitarists these days don't sound like Segovia.
@@Olegstuff21986 That wasn't meant to be taken literally. It might be a cultural thing but a statement like that, even in txt, one can almost see the speaker's facial expressions and the tone used. It was tongue in cheek. No drama.
Having said that though Segoviawas a registered dogmatic who had two ways of doing things, his way and the wrong way. Barrios fairly freaked him out with his playing and improvisation and I don't mean in a good way.
The guitar wouldn't be where it is now without A.S' work early last century, well indeed his entire life. He didn't ever take competition well, and jealously guarded his self appointed place at the top of the heap, though, imo, Barrios was a far better player, no question a better composer and improviser. He just didn't get the promotional help that A.S did. Could you imagine anything as beautiful as 'Sueno' coming from Segovia's pen?
Como era Segovia, le hubiera dado envidia.
Awesome playing love!
perfect!! u r so great!!
Wow!! Incredible technique.
AMAZING MIRACLE
Siempre veo tus comentarios :v
Never heard that on guitar before, the transcription works really well.
Really don't know how she does it. Soooo clean. Practice probably. Technical and emotional at the same time. Just brilliant
It’s just incredibly beautiful 👍🏻👍🏻
Phenomenal interpretation.
Play it again Irina! Mucho bueno!
Simply incredible.
Pięknie dziękuję za tak wspaniałą grę i pozdrawiam serdecznie. Brawa wielkie brawa.
Perfect. Really amazing!
Is there hope for the human race after all? 117,280 views and no dislikes. Count me as another "like." Gorgeous, and I want more.
In honor to my friend Avner Brender who once owned this type of guitar and was known for his supreme artistic performance. Avner has reached the age of 90 lately.
Excelente ejecución! Felicitaciones!
Маэстра, как можно после твоей игры слушать исполнения других? Я тоже не знаю и не могу. Спасибо от всего сердца.
Meravigliosa interpretazione, bravissima!
Великолепно, Шопен на гитаре, это нечто!! Спасибо!!
Why all the dislikes? I just don't get it? Sounds great to my ears.
She gave a lot of people depression/self-esteem issues with this video
Probably pianists.
LOL ;-)
or sexists
Luisa Pinheiro Ohhhh nooo, not those sexists. Just like anti semites there seems to be soooo many more of them these days, hey ?
No words, is so exceptional
One οf.the best out here!!no fake technique and small sound.bravooooo
this is just perfect !!
Thank you ❤️
Phenomenal performance.
A perfect performance
Excelente; bravo.
Great performance !
Excelente interpretación.
Fantastic playing
She's amazing!
Блестящая техника, потрясающее исполнение!!!
Superb playing and tone.
Excelentes--Irinna..e a guitarra
what a wonderful performance!
loved everything here : the so talentuous playing , the guitar sound ( not forgetting the recording quality ) , Chopin' s waltz
I think a lot of people just don't like transcriptions. I love guitar and this one certainly had its number of guitar moments. Credit Chopin!
É simplesmente magnífico
